At this point, I believe the gay and lesbian community is on the wrong track. Instead of fighting the system to get married legally, the should (at least at first)establish their own system much like blacks did with the baseball "Negro(their term, not mine) league. The could establish a system from scratch which in my opinion would be better than the current marriage system. They could decide for themselves (obviously) what should be included to get a"marriage" certificate. I would in some type of organized group instruction and participation to better prepare for marriage plus some type of prenuptial agreement about how they would divide up their stuff should the marriage fail.

the problem is those marriages would not be legal. and personally I do not care about the marriage issue

I care about a man who continuously pusheds the destructive, bigoted and backwards argument that I am on par with a pedophile, bestiality and ibncest. same arguments they used last century to keep the races from mixing.

THERE IS A REASON FOR MAN AND WOMAN ---- TO PROCREATE ( to beget, generate offspring ).

THERE IS NO REASON FOR SAME SEX MARRIAGE; EXCEPT, TO PRETEND ( to make believe ).

    CHILD MOLESTERS NEXT ?

WHERE DOES IT END ? ----------------------REALLY !

    • Posted By: Nesta12572 @ 12/20/2008 4:23:39 PM

Oh, I see, so people who cannot or do not wish to procreate should be banned from marriage also. Okay, I can agree with that. If indeed marriage is simply for the purposes of procreation then all persons applying for a marriage license must first pass a fertility test and then sign an agreement that they will indeed procreate. If they fail to do so within a reasonable period of time their marriage will be annulled. Sounds great, as long as we're denying people the civil right to marry based on your criteria it should, of course, apply evenly across the board. :)

        MAN AND MAN ------- WRONG.

        WOMAN AND WOMAN ----- WRONG.

MARRIAGE IS JUST A GAY EXCUSE TO DO WRONG --- LEGALLY.

THEY CAN BE TOGETHER IN ALL SORTS OF WAYS; EXCEPT, THEY CAN'T PROCREATE.

and the bible says it is okay to have slaves. only the stupid do not evolve to see that a percentage of a lot of species are homosexual...and that may be for a higher purpose and for survival of the species...having members who actually worry abouyt the whole gene pool rather than just the procreation of their own duh.

    and Citadelgirl

    I am Christian

and him asking a man who unjustly and backwardly calls me and MILLIONS of Americans on par with a pedophile or bestiality to have the honor of giving the moral sanctification over what may be the most watched event in human history

after he himself would have never been elected ...perhaps even born when people used the same arguments against his own mother's interracial relationship ids beyond the level of hypocrisy.

Most Christians DO NOT BELIEVE what Rick Warren preaches and pushes... MOST AMERICANS and CHRISTIANS by a large majority

do not put gays and lesbians on par with bestiality and incest and pedophilia

that is thinking straight out of slavery and banning interracial relationships...and that husbands can beat their wives.

It is not okay for this man to stand up on behalf of those Christians and be honored and given creedence to those horribly destructive beliefs...

and I do not care about the marriage issue.

I care about a bigot straight out of the 1950's telling my nieces and my brave parents who have had to overcome that bigoted and oppressive belief system having a man who espouses it honored to stand next to the president...

(a president that I worked every day for 2 years to get elected) on inauguration day.

I cannot agree. Gays typically use ''the majority'' in their sense of frustration aimed at what they view as a ''evangelical''dominated America.

But what occurs when the evangelical becomes the minority, and it is gays and their tenets that claim a majoral status in an outpost position? San Francisco is an excellent case in point. In this city, the evangelical is almost non-existant. Its brief forays into open discourse and debate are met with ridicule, threat and violence. Gays thus become what they behold in the larger America as they percieve it,acting no better than an unruly mob, totalitarian in their demands. This is what separates their movement from one purely Kingsian in nature. It allows or advocates violence and intolerance as the means to an end,[adding belittlement into the mix as the anti-Catholic ''Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence'' demonstrate] thus alienating otherwise fairminded Americans, rather than advancing a bringing-together,a peaceful agreement to disagree. It is the polar opposite to tactics and strategies as envisioned by a King or a Gandhi.

      To: Lee Holmes,
This is precisely why treating people fairly and with compassion is so important. If you treat a group of people with bigotry and hatred and then that group then gains predominance in an area is it any surprise if they return the treatment? In my opinion it is simply untrue that most homosexuals treat others with anywhere near the venom that they have been subjected to, but if they did would it shock you?

  • Posted By: DWillson @ 12/20/2008 4:41:36 PM

in the 50's and 60's social conservatives used similar logic to say people of different races should not procreate because of the bible and that different races were genetically not predisposed to having children...and many even said the children from those marriages were bastards...and unholy seedlings...

that's right Mr. President. I am sure you would have been happy back then when a president in that time said he offered a fierce proponent of those beliefs to give the moral sanctification at the inauguration for the country...especially a President without interracial couples he would not have been elected.

DRUG USERS INSIST THAT THEY SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE, THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG.

THEY CLAIM THEY ARE NOT HURTING ANYONE.

THEY WILL STEAL TO SATISFY THEIR NEED; MANY, WILL SELL TO OTHERS TO GET MONEY TO INDULGE THEMSELVES.

EGOTISTICAL BEHAVIOR AND TWISTED BELIEF TO CONTINUE TO JUSTIFY THEIR WRONG DOING.

IF YOU LIKE THOSE OF YOUR OWN GENDER ------ FINE !

DON'T EXPECT TO TWIST THE MINDS OF THOSE WHO SAY YOUR WRONG.

    GAY MARRIAGE IS WRONG.

no. It is not okay for people to say 2 adults whose relationship and love for each other does not harm anyone...for someone else to come in and say millions of Americans are not allowed to feel what they feel...otherwise it is the same as an adult who takes advantage of and hurts a child or a person who hurts an animal...

No that is not okay...can I say any man who goes into the clergy who is effeminate like Rev warren is a pedophile...and going to hell...and people should keep their children away

    of course I can...

but I would hope if I continue to preach that and push that notion aggressively like Rev warren does about millions of good innocent patriotic and incredibly supportive of Obama Americans who fought for him ... he would be not hypocritical enough to throw us under the bus and ask the question...

what he would think of Kennedy and others doing that to interracial marriage.

Barack knows this was a mistake and if he didn't ...he would be the biggest hypocrite this country has ever seen.

When it comes to the Bible, Christ did do away with certain laws and traditions. I guess its all a mystery to what is right and wrong - sin or no sin, huh?

    • Posted By: ltnelson @ 12/20/2008 4:37:31 PM

More like Paul and the rest did away with them after they came to terms with the fact that the jews jesus and they tried to preach to rejected christianity and they had to find a way to allow non jews to join up without making them do all the stuff jews have to do to observe their religion. Otherwise they would never have had enough converts!

What exactly is the definition of tolerance? Many of the most vocal people who enjoy a gay and lesbian lifestyle are always screaming tolerance when anyone says boo about anything gay or lesbian. You're considered judgemental and unloving if you disagree with their sexual preferences. Are you not being judgemental, unloving and intolerant by leading a lynch mob against Mr. Warren? Rick Warren disagrees with your gay and lesbian beliefs. Is that okay? Aren't you being religiously discriminatory? Isn't Mr. Warren allowed to believe whatever he wants and share that with others? I was under the impression that this is what tolerance is.

this is the sadest comments I have read How can you force your beliefs on the world if your life project the images of God why are you trying to run a guilt trip on others .rick warren can't change anybody they must be ready and want change.God does the changing rick only teach the truth the way and the life for those who want it. I pray that Obama continue .gays were not the only people to vote and gave money you were not the deciding vote. God controll both rick and obama. you say u were born your way so god must controll u too.I agree with terry c. i believe u hate your self.

Why not save the energy and passion for substantive opportunities?

Prop 8 in Californa? You bet! To the barricades we go!! A future chance before Congress to add national legislation to the support of the LGBT community? Absolutely!

This is much hand-wringing about nothing. Rick Warren may represent the worst some folks feel exists on the planet, but it seeme very unlikely that his anti-gay beliefs will surface on inauguration day.

Let's get back to working for change rather than making much of so little.

Cforzetting writes that Christians MUST take the ENTIRE Bible at face value if they want to be Christians. I'm assuming then, dear, that you don't eat shellfish because you are commanded not to do so, are subservient to your husband because God has said so, and have put your disobedient children to death, as ordered to do so. Face it, honey, you Xtians take the Bible literally when it suits your right-wing propagandist needs, and ignore the passages you simply can't defend. No go have another shrimp cocktail and stop your whining.

Derek72, I agree with you when it comes to your rights for marriage. However there has been discussion about churches being viewed as businesses and therefore would be filed for discrimination for not allowing same sex marriages. I believe that if homosexual want to wed then there should be a place for them to do so. As a christian though I am wondering if spiritual homosexuals read only part of the Bible because it does have scriptures deeming homosexuality as a sin. But ALSO I don't see anyones sin as greater than the other. And I don't see homosexuality as a reason to keep them from having rights.

You t\hink being GLBT is hard, try being an out of the closit athiest in this country. There is nothing lower!! Rick Warren has stated that athiests have no business holding elected office in this country. At least he hasn't said that about the GLBT community. And if he has, I'd like to see him say that face to face with Barney Frank!! My point is that, along with being an open and avowed bigot, he also obviously does not understand or care to abide by the US Constitution. Therefore I don't think he is a person we should want to present to the people of this country or to the rest of the world as a symbol of what this country stands for,

  • Posted By: rickhamrick @ 12/20/2008 4:04:16 PM

To me, the real time for taking to the barricades will be when substantive change is raised as a possibility, either in Congress or in individual states, which affects the LGBT community.

The fight in California over Prop 8 is a thousand times more vital than trying to get rid of Rick Warren. Let's invest our energy where it can actually bear fruit!

I quote from Leah McElrath Renna, "Assuming you are including lesbian and gay people of faith and our allies within "most folks," I beg to differ with you that they would see the person delivering the invocation as simply "the guy who said a prayer." Yes, that might be the perspective of a secular person, but it is not that of a person of faith." I for one am a believer in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, therefore not considered a secularist. And I think this issue is blown way out of proportion. I say to myself, "For goodness sakes, he's just saying a prayer." To quote from a secularist, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Hamlet Act 3, scene 2, 222???230

Chris Crain is a self-loathing gay man who's known mostly in LGBT circles as a publicity whore. I'm not surprised he jumped at the chance to be contrary for the sake of getting into the spotlight once again. The man is pathetic.

We are all "behaviorally disordered sinners". This condition is not the property of any particular class or group of people. The message of Christmas is that despite this disorder our position is based on one thing only: our personal acceptance or rejection of Jesus as Lord; the only Lord of life. He will re-order whatever is surrendered to him. Newsweek continues to blur the issues. Perhaps Its writers could think more clearly by putting a contemporary bible (eg, NIV) on their laptops?

Nonsense - as usual Gays are excluded from the table, along with women, ecologists and liberals;- Obama is off to the exact start I knew he would be, wanna get some points playing to the right? kick the gays and condone the haters; the compulsive liar has stabbed in the back the very groups that got him elected into office; so why isn't he having an openly gay person speak? Not gonna happen. It goes down hill from here folks - I voted for Hillary and then I voted for - McCain - at least we know where he stands and with honest record of achievement - All Obama has done is lie to get into office, say any lie he can to get elected and now he has appointed all of the "old guard" he falsely accused Hillary of being, in order to get himself elected.

700 million in small donations on the internet? Don't make me laugh. He owes his hedge fund backers and now has to pay up in favors for their 90% contributions to that 700 million; we're seeing it in the choices he's making.

I wonder how many millions Rick Warren (who died and made him God?!!), gave to Obama. Caroline Kennedy appointed Senator?!! She doesn't even participate in politics on the most basic responsible level - voting! And neither does Obama (131 consecutive times Obama voted "present" that's not change!!! We needed a Madam President not a mr. present).

Give me a break, Kennedy wasn't any more qualified to be appointed to vet Hillary for VP but the elitist Obama can't resist sucking up to famous names in his status seeking greed for power. Hillary made her own name with 35 years in politics fighting in the trenches for the working man while Caroline fled the family business to be a stay at home mom for 40 years and she's vetting Hillary?!! I believe 18 million voters did that thank you.

This is what happens when you set a precedent by electing President the most unqualified candidate in the history of the office.

Now Ms. Famous name wants to be Senator and nothing changes; it's still okay to hate gays and prevent them from their freedom of speech and taxation without representation, to have and call their unions marriage. The poor stay poor, the rich stay rich and the downtrodden who voted for change are kept persecuted by Obama himself.

Welcome to America the great Hypocrisy, where the most qualified candidate lost to the most unqualified candidate because he is another tall man and she is a woman (who trounced him in 21 consecutive debates!!!!!!).

Obama and Warren are both hypocristian bigots. Jesus said: "He who speaks against the least of my brethren speaks against me. What you do to the least of my brethren you do (for or against) me." Both men have proven themselves haters and excluders of 1/10th, by some counts more, of the population. Obama will prove himself more unpopular than Bush. More of the same - Obama is Bush - Mabus!

Its obvious to say that America is split in its ideas about homosexuality. Obama is not politically against gay rights. However it seems as if a lot of Homosexuals are angry that his personal views may be. That is not the issue here! As long as the president does right by all Americans and their rights, why try to change his belief? It would be the same as trying to get Homosexuals to believe differently about themselves. Can we agree to disagree and get on with our lives??
