There we go again, feel like mentioning that China tortures their own people, doesn't allow free press and their system allows for their people to work 18 h.r days for nothing. How about the 800 million Chines that live below the poverty line? 1/2 of the worlds most poor people come from two countries China and India. Learn then post you biased moron

Got my statistics from Naomi Klien's Shock Doctrine which is very well sourced, cant find the first hand source but she knows her information and I dont think she works for CNN do you? And yes I have been a few places in the world thanks for asking

you fit the stereotype of CNN-educated American. sorry, no offense.

was replying the gentlemen below try reading the posts down to top other then that I agree with the article how come nobody can talk about political things without bashing Americans or America every time!....American yes but and I live in Europe by the way thanks check your own stereotypes

I happened to have lived in France for a while. I have nothing against the American people, and actually I have my sympathy on their suffering while the government is bailing out those rich. I said I had no offense. But sir you used the word "moron" in your first. Who was being unreasonable? Looking at your data: 800 mln Chinese under poverty line, you can quote me your source? So I reckon you just watched too much CNN news. Yes, the Chinese government control the media, but don't assume Chinese people believe those news. CCTV in China is known as "CCAV". Now I have been Europe, U.S. and India. Have you ever been China and India? If haven't, what made you believe what you knew are true and reliable?

Assuming you like watch the western media to form your idea, I quote the source for you.

China???s sustained growth fueled historically unprecedented poverty reduction. The World Bank uses a poverty line based on household real consumption (including consumption of own-produced crops and other goods), set at $1 per day measured at Purchasing Power Parity. In most low-income countries this amount is sufficient to guarantee each person about 2000 calories of nutrition per day, plus other basic necessities. In 2007, this line corresponds to about 900 RMB per year. Based on household surveys, the poverty rate in China in 1981 was 64% of the population. This rate declined to 10% in 2004, indicating that about 500 million people have climbed out of poverty during this period.[3]

Why 1/2 the poor come from CN and IN? Simply bcoz these two countries have almost 1/2 polulation of e world. Not mentioning that the two countries have been colonized or under the warfire started by the west for hundreds of years. Shame on the WEST! Robbed the Asian's wealth and then blame Asians on their being poor.

Let???s be realistic and honest, if the real goal is to have peace in the Middle East, then don???t focus on having Hamas and Israel negotiate a settlement based on their ability to compromise, which has proven to be impossible, but rather put equal and realistic pressure on them to accept equitable terms. Put politics aside and negotiate with the Arab countries, especially Syria and Iran, to stop supporting and backing Hamas unless they accept the terms of a cessation of hostilities with the agreement that we will do the same with Israel. Then offer both of them support in making a true and lasting peace work, with the quiet threat that if they don???t honestly and diligently work at it, they will be cut off. End of conflict! Maybe we need to admit that Israel really wasn???t anyone???s property to be given away in the first place but they also have to recognize that it is too late to be reversed and now it is necessary to just accept reality and come to agreements that are literally best for everyone; which likely should include a beneficial cooperation that advances each party. Simply stated, get the politics out of it and concentrate on the reality, realizing that if they could become interdependent, then the problem would be solved.

On Tuesday September 16th 2008, an international court of law, The Geneva First Instance Court, stated that Taiwan possesses all the elements of statehood and that its government holds and effectively exercises sovereignty over its territory.

I feel grateful that Hu the humble, like other 1.3 billion Chinese people today, keeps the low key down to the earth attitude. It would be very mean to think it is easy to lead a population the size equal to US, Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada combined but only as wealthy as maybe Mexico. I hope people in the west, US in particular, try to understand the effort today's Chinese people are making to attain a modestly better life and set aside the difference to work together with Hu and the Chinese nation for a better world. China is not a perfect country, so are many others in the world. Hu deserves his credit to make China as it is today.

Well said. Indeed, We need this kind of thought for the world the thrive. China is still a poor country in terms of GDP per capital, even though China's GDP will supersede Germany in this month. Also, China's economy scale is about 4 times of that of Mexico in 2007 according the wold bank GDP statistics.

So far China has had very few "enemies". She had been a victim of war, repression and colonialism. China has never invaded other nations and even during the cummunist heyday had never given trouble to any other nations. Unlike the US who like to be the master of the world, China should tread the road of peace and friendliness. However I do hope that China will be strong enough to balance the US power who is acting like a big bully. Good luck China, long live Hu Jintao.
