2008: Rod, Eliot, Yuck

During the presidential contest between an African-American from Chicago and a plumber from Toledo, eros reared its beguiling head.

I agree, kimnder garden kids are far too young to take on pledges concerning sexual language as they aren't even pubescent yet. There may be some kind of sense to have 12 year olds do the same since their age is approprate for understanding the meaning of those words. Of course smaller children should be prohibited use of language they don't uderstand.

I don't usually comment on these articles, but I hope that Mr. Will knows that peanut allergies are serious. I am really upset that again someone is making the allergy seem trivial when it could end in the death of a child or person if not treated within MINUTES. Again, I am having to defend the "health hysteria" that occupies my daughters life. While most people are understanding, I run across people who roll their eyes when I ask if we could avoid having peanut butter at gatherings (even my own family). I provide food for her, but her allergy is so life threating that if she were to touch a surface that had trace peanut butter on it and then accidentally put her fingers in her mouth, she could have (and has had) a life threating reaction. I thought that Mr. Will would have some compassion about something this serious. I remember what an effect his "Golly What did John do?" article had on me. I just wish he would have shown the same compassion to someone else who has a disability.

One small correction re Jack Lucas - he did not "win" the Medal of Honor, he was "awarded" the MOH. People do not "win" medals on the battlefield in the military - that is reserved for athletic competitions and pie-baking contests. People who are awarded the medals are always referred to as "recipients" of the medal and not as the "winners".

Having little ones in kindergarden sign pledges to not use certain language as it relates to sexuality before they have even learned the language or know the complexities of sexuality is kind of sick and may even produce the opposite effect. What manner of paranoid deviant wants to ensure the establishment and prominence of a minority of the populace in the minds of children before the children have matured sufficiently to investigate the world on their own terms?

I would like to nominate Mr. Will for the Irrelevance of the Year Award dedicated to the columnist who uses the most space to say the least. Really, does this guy have anything left to say? I think it's time for a gold watch and a quick goodbye. I hear Fox News is always looking for a few good Republican shills.

Against Ignorance, that's quite a self-satisfied name. I assume you're a closet bigot, as is always the case with your type. Will was pointing out the inappropriateness of using kindergarteners to push a political agenda, particularly one based on sexual orientation, no matter how worthy the message may be. That sort of nuance is beyond you, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway.

Wow, and thats not even the worst of it. Isn't this windbag supposed to be the face of a more reasonable form of republicanism? He seriously has a problem with teachers asking their students not to use anti-gay slurs? Thank you Mr. Will. You have just single-handedly proved that Republicans allegely moderated anti-gay rhetoric is nothing but barely disguised hatred and bigotry.

Ah, I see some complaints about nepotism and dynasty building in this pile of pretentious bilge. And yet I don't see a mention of the Bushite dynasty which, thanks to brother Jeb, we haven't seen the last of.

We are in a new era. It's not left or right. It's whatever gets our country out of the crunch. WAKE UP. Maybe we are entering the new age. A revolution. Take the words of our forefathers and apply it to today. President Lincoln knew what they were saying. Today, so do we Americans know what it means to be free. It is our country. Stand up America. It's time.

The conservative movement may have died with the end of the Bush Presidency. We need new thinking that may take the best of conservatism and the best of all enlightened thinking. Perhaps Obama is intelligent to stay away our wedge issues. The conservative movement under Reagen is gone. The Clinton era will come to age. New thinking is the key to the future. Our economy will recover now that Bush is out. War can take a back seat. We need a real peace and real money.

god does not play with dice. If that was what Al was refering to no two one points do to the speed of light 186,929 mi. per sec. he would be right., but if not, everything is a would be crap shoot and the reason is no two one point 8-6-4-2, assumming light would get there first he would be wrong because that what makes everything work in the first place..Proven by the partical wave theory of 1932.

  • Posted By: scottinclearwater @ 12/23/2008 1:44:45 PM

Yes, heaven forfend someone being mature enough to ask our children to not use anti-LGBT slurs. But, if all this anti-gay marriage nonsense is really about your desire to yell "***" at me as you drive down the road, yell away. Just stop blocking my access to the Clerk of Courts office.

Aside from its unremitting negativity, this is one of the most oddly written columns I've ever read. Does this help anyone face the New Year with some small sense of hope, George?
