Biggest misfortune for Barrak Obama (US president elect 2008) is that he has joined the 'world scene' at a wrong time for himself (equally good for US though) US after long war-season is internally dilapidated economically, image wise, morale wise & is at a brink of loosing all the glitter &...there are indications that globally there is a 'shift of power' likely in years to come. Whether it was destined to happen as a cycle of history or is the result of American policies in past 50+ years is a separate issue..but America has got a truly powerful president at a moment when America itself is at it's weakest of modern times...this puts an immense responsibility on Barrak Obama to rescue the only superpower...or he will have to bear brunt of any adverse consequence for a reason not good enough..and his race, his background etc etc shall all be wrongfully bashed off..this would be a real injustice to the competence & good will of this great man!

It is understandable that most members posting are unaware of the "NEW WORLD ORDER" and "THE GLOBAL ELITE" and the "ILLUMINATI" and their agenda's for "WE the people". Research it, this is for "OUR CHILDREN'S" future people. The people on that list of people are the chosen leaders for our new world order, if you are unfamiliar with the dictators in the holocaust, go watch "Valkyrie", "HELLO" they are programming our children and us to get used to the idea of what they have in store for our future. How can you not beleive it when they steal billions and trillions from "WE THE PEOPLE" without our consent. I dont know one tax payer who agrees with the bailout and they still passed the bill. The dictators on the Top 50 liist will do as they please by scaring the people and the others are the influential Leaders which coach us through telling us it is ok and that everything is fine and "we take their word for it", AFTER ALL why would Oprah lie to us she is our friend.

And how did Obama become so "powerful" so quickly? It's because the REAL power brokers put him where he is today.

The real power brokers work behind the scenes. And sorry, but the sad fact is that Obama is being controlled by many of the same forces that controlled Bush. He will do their bidding just as Bush did. The wars scheduled for the Obama Administration have ALREADY BEEN PLANNED.

The Obama Administration will not bring "change" in the true sense, only a change of rhetoric, speaking style and skin color. But don't take my word for it - just wait and see for yourself.

Did you read the article? Let me help you out, "highly subjective list of the most powerful people who will figure in the era over which Obama will preside." Its a forward looking list, and yes, Obama will most likely not factor in 7 1/2 years from now. Of course dictators are listed. Anyone surprised by that most certainly doesn't understand the concept of a dictatorship.

Hey whiners who are upset that Bush is not on the list. How about you read the article? This list is about who is gong to be powerful in the coming years. Bush, lame duck that he is, will be relgated to fading away on his ranch in Crawford. Thank goodness!

I'm glad Newsweek showed their true colors and didn't put Bush on for token purposes. It shows the magazines true lack of respect and total void of jouranlistic integrity to leave off The President of the United States.

The list is unbelievably ridiculous. The President of the United States is not on the list but a host of dictators are. So I guess 7 1/2 yeas from now Barack Obama will not be on the list either.

It's really sad to see that newsweek put a disgusting person like Khameneyi on the list of most powerful instead of putting him on the different list in newsweek, namely the top 5 most tyrannical leaders.whether the newsweek writers have not enough knowledge to write an article or they have a sinister intention in falsifying things!

How is Gordon Brown number 7? Britain is not a military superpower, it is a smaller economy than Germany (Angela Merkel), Gordon Brown is relatively unpopular in his own country, his decisions could be questions by the UK parliament. Besides his political status his control over the country's economy is limited. Gordon Brown has limited personal wealth and thus limited influence once he is out of the office.

I am very sceptical about this rating. Obama has not had a chance to exercise his power for a prolonged period of time. His political influence is not absolute and never will be, unlike that of Kim John or Hugo Chavez. How can General Patreas be in top 30 if his role is limited to commanding US forces in a specific part of the globe and under a direct line of command. His scope of influence is extremely limited; he is just a bolt in the US millitary apparatus.

In the list of the most powerfull people,I see Obama as the leading,What about Bush who still hold the post of presidency?
Does it mean any president of U.S.A is the most powerful human being on earth?
    What a joke!
