It may make some people feel better to see his name listed on the Top 50 list, but in reality this man is not even the most powerful in his own country. The most powerful person in Iraq is the cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.

2009 is not the last year of the first decade of the 21st century; it's the ninth year.

And you know how I know?

It has that little "9" there after the "200".

And just as you need a "0" to reach the number 10, you also need a "0" to reach 100 and so on until you need a "0" to reach 1000.

It is more than just common practice to start counting with "1"; the very calendar we are using starts at 1 A.D. or 1 C.E, if you prefer. The calendar we are using does not start at "0".

That is not a statement open to interpretation; it is not a question of preference. It is a fact.

It is truth.

What an interesting list - no writers, no university presidents, no scientists or inventors, (although Dr. Chan is sort of a scientist) no political pundits. No social reformers. No Nobel Peace prize winners or others actively promoting peace (although the Dalai Lama gets honorable mention in that category).

The vast majority of these people are heads of state, politicians or CEO's, a few generals, a few religious figureheads.

This list is most remarkable for the types of people it is missing - no Ben Franklins, no Orwells or Thomas Paines, no Desmond Tutu's, no Limbaughs or Buchanans, no Salks or Sabins, no Margaret Sangers or Dorothea Dixes,

Power to make people think, and power to inspire movements and ideas is what is missing here.

THE fact there is no republican in this list signifies one truth only they lost the war in iraq and there is no place for losers in a power listing
whether they were wrong or right is morally derived but winning and losing make you powerful and losers

Power is where power is percieved. The illlusion is . . . that powerful people must take the power fheY have over others. The truth is . . . others have to give it to them. Power is either " over " others . . . to control . . or power is " from within " to influence. Very simple and uncompicated.
