Go "Progressive American"! I agree wholeheartedly. And, just because "billions of people" in this world are Catholics, does not make him (or them, God forid) powerful.

I don't need to view anyone else on this list... Pope Benedict is #1 Our prayers are with you!!! And in response to "Progressive American" pray about it and do a little more reseach, some things are a lot deeper than they seem on the surface. Pope Benedict is a holy man and is striving towards holiness just like we are all called to be working towards. God bless and happy new year

I'm not a fan of an institution that believes its figure head is infallible.

"Papal infallibility is the dogma in Catholic theology that, by action of the Holy Spirit, the Pope is preserved from even the possibility of error[1] when he solemnly declares or promulgates to the Church a dogmatic teaching on faith or morals as being contained in divine revelation, or at least being intimately connected to divine revelation. It is also taught that the Holy Spirit works in the body of the Church to ensure that dogmatic teachings proclaimed to be infallible will be received by all Catholics.

It is very dangerous to believe that this one person is the mouth piece for God. No human is the mouth piece for God, our creator expects us to think and use our judgement as to what is right or wrong. We are given the necessary tools to analysis what are the best ethics and values for society are, not some figure head.

Face it the Pope is not holier than anyone else, he just happens to study the material more than anyone else.

Oh please. The Pope is easily the most powerful person on this list-there are a billion Catholics in the world; and as far as the other faiths of this planet are concerned, he is the de facto of the rest of Christendom as well.
