Another person wrote: ??? Holy Ghost Services with estimates of over 1 to 1.5 million people. All these people cannot be stupid at the same time! ???

All these people cannot be stupid? In Matthew 7:13-23, Jesus said: ???Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing ??? Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!???

Many of his followers call him "daddy". The following is an example: AM HAPPY TO HAVE A FATHER LIKE YOU DADDY, WHEN I WAS A KID I HAVE ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO HAVE A MENTOR LIKE JESUS CHRIST HERE ON EARTH, UNTIL I JOIN THE REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD IN 1998 DEC. THEN I FOUND YOU WORTHY TO TAKE THAT POSITION IN MY LIFE, TODAY YOU HAVE REALLY PROOVE YOURSELF TO BE A FATHER THAT IS WORTH EMULATING, I AM PROUD OF YOU DADDY E.A. ADEBOYE.

But in Matthew 23:8-9, Jesus instructed His followers: "But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in Heaven.??? Why have RCCG leaders allowed their followers to develop the evil habit of calling E.A. Adeboye "daddy"? It's idolatry. Contact: Taiwo. CreatorCame@yahoo.com

My only problem is that with all these "miracles", what has religion contributed to Nigeria? Killers of hope, murderers, corrupt power brokers, Islamic terrorism, 419ers etc. Religion has made people into animals that can kill in other to achieve material wealth. People like Adeboye preaches about how God created everybody to be financially rich, therefore, if you're not financially rich then you are of evil. People like him are friends to corrupt people in power that has killed millions in Nigeria through their stealing. I thought religion was supposed to be about learning how to behave like Jesus and Mohammed, not anymore. Religion preachers are now about deceit and lies, about wealth and fame, about power and enslavement.

I am a Nigerian studying at Duke University, one of my many interests is people like "Daddy" Adebayo. This is because I remembered listening to his sermons every Sunday afternoon on NTA (Nigerian Television Association), I was highly captivated by his outspokenness (hundreds of miles from Lagos to Taraba, I felt his words through the television strike my soul like a force of fire. "Daddy" Adebayo knows his stuff ( Bible), I must say, he is the type of preacher that will cause one to move after listening to his sermons) However, my only concern with respect to Pentecostalism is the greater emphasis on soul wining as opposed to a focus on meeting the basis necessities of individuals members. Throughout my years as adult while I lived in Nigeria, Sierra Leone and others part of Africa I must say I don't recall preachers like "Daddy" Adebayo offering to help those less fortunate with basic things for survival. The question I ask is, what does Mark 8 mean to the Pentecostal churches particularly in Nigeria? In Mark 8 we see that people heard the word of God and were filled, but when they became hungry Jesus refused to let them go out on an empty stomach, so he blessed seven breads and two fish which fed four thousand people. "Daddy" Adebayo may have touched millions of lives around the globe but I must say we need not separate Words and Deeds. As James declares, words without deeds are nothing!

This comment is for Lisa millers attention.
It is not right to say that Pastor Adeboye always wears pin striped suit ,with gleaming white shirt and bow tie. That is a distortion of facts and it is apalling that an editor or reporter of your status would commit such a blunder. Please kindly find out your facts before posting them for such a wide audience to read

Sequel to the above article, I would love to make right a not too correct statement above. May i kindly remark that Pastor Adeboye DOES NOT ALWAYS wear pin striped suit, with gleaming white shirt and bow tie. Maybe on some occassions as in the picture above, it may be so. Otherwise, i would rather term his dressing as simplistic; he would always keep his dressing conservative and never flamboyant. thank you

May i comment on the fact that I agree with most of what has been said about Pastor Adeboye, however one note worthy point is in the aspect of his dressing. He does "NOT ALWAYS' wear pinstriped suit, gleaming white shirt and a bow tie as mentioned in the article above. However, his style can be termed simplistic in nature; he never arrays flamboyancy.

I agree with most of the article. However, Ms Miller needs to understand that "speaking in tongues" is not
jibberish! People need to know that the Holy Spirit is certainly capable of giving words of knowledge in a
language they themselves do not know! True speaking in tongues is just that--speaking in an unknown language.
My friend, for example, tells of praying over an Arabic man, in a language she did not know, but he did!
As a result, he gave his heart to Jesus!

Daddy I was never suprised when I heard the great news. HUMILITY can actually take one to a greater height in life "God resist the pride and giveth Grace (to make it in life) to the humble".

Daddy you are my mentor after JESUS CHRIST himself.

I LOVE u Daddy keep on the good work for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I pray God Almighty will continually strengthen you and your family (RCCG) in Jesus name. Amen

Prophecies are getting fulfilled right before our eyes. Indeed the knowledge of the Lord shall cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. The Lord will still raise many more witnesses who will not soil their garment in the murky waters of materialism and sensationalism. My reader may certainly be one if only you can surrender all.

Miller says that Pentecostalism is the fastest growing Christian movement "since the Reformation." In terms of simple, sheer numbers, Pentecostalism has grown and is growing much faster than the movement launched by Luther and Calvin. In terms of time and impact, yes, Pentecostalism got off to a slower start, only becoming influential after the 1950s, mostly because nearly all of its early adherents were very poor folk, who didn't have much power outside of their churches. The Protestant movement, on the other hand, carried political power from very early on. On every other point, though, I agree with Miller. See Philip Jenkins, The Next Christendom, for more on emerging trends within global Christianity.

Thank you, Lisa Miller, for your story on Bishop Adeboye!

My pastor, Dr. I.V. Hilliard, was invited to speak at this man's convention in Nigeria last year and was quite moved by the over 2 million or so people in attendance. He said he was humbled at what this man had accomplished.

Although you gave some history concerning the Pentecostal Movement, you missed a key person considered the real founder of the Pentecostal Movement from Azusa Street: William Seymour. I am taking the liberty of sending you some information from the Internet:

The Azusa Street Revival was a historic Pentecostal revival meeting that took place in Los Angeles, California and was led by William J. Seymour, an African American preacher. Today, the revival is considered by historians to be the primary catalyst for the spread of Pentecostalism in the 20th century.

In 1905 William J. Seymour, a 34 year old son of former slaves, was a student of well-known pentecostal preacher Charles Parham and an interim pastor for a small holiness church in Houston, Texas.[3] Neely Terry, an African American woman who attended a small holiness church pastored by Julia Hutchins in Los Angeles, made a trip to visit family in Houston late in 1905.[2] While in Houston, she visited Seymour's church, where he preached that baptism in the Holy Spirit was accompanied with speaking in tongues, and though he had not experienced this personally, Terry was impressed with his character and message. Once home in California, Terry suggested that Seymour be invited to speak at the local church.[4] Seymour received and accepted the invitation in February of 1906, and received financial help and a blessing from Parham for his planned one-month visit.[1][2]

Doctrinal differences abounded, and many separate organizations and denominations sprung from the initial revivals. The Church of God in Christ was formed in 1907, the Assemblies of God and United Pentecostal Church were formed in 1914, the Pentecostal Church of God was formed in 1919 at the Sharon Bible School.[15]

Today there are more than 500 million Pentecostal and Charismatic believers across the globe.[2][9][12] The Pentecostal denomination is currently the second in size only to the Roman Catholic Church,[17] and is the fastest-growing form of Christianity today.[7] The Azusa Street Revival is commonly regarded as the beginning of the modern-day Pentecostal Movement.[15][23][24]

If you have the occasion to write other articles concerning the Pentecostal Movement, consider interviewing Dr. Synans. He has a LOT of history on this from his work at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Other sources include Dr. Fred Price of Los Angeles, Kenneth Copeland of Ft. Worth, and Dr. I.V. Hilliard of Houston.

Thanks again for such a fine article!
