The comments from most contributors is most fascinating I must say but I think people are missing the point here. Pastor Adeboye is a respected preacher who inspires people through his gift from God to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. From the effect of the messages he preaches and the harvest of souls for Christ, it is obvious that the grace of God is upon his life.

I gave my life to Christ on a day Pastor Adeboye came to preach in my church. I can tell you this, he preached the truth that ministered to my spirit and I knew that I MUST BE BORN AGAIN. I gave my life not under the promise of riches and all that but out of a conviction that this life as we know it today cannot be all there is...the inner witness in my spirit spoken in Romans 1:19-20 let me know that I needed to repent. So on the day I gave my life the message was not "be rich" but "Be born again and be sure of where you will spend your eternity" The message was also interesting; being born again was no guarantee that things will not be rosy as some evangelists might tell you (the anchor scripture was Mark 4:35-41) but that your faith will be tested by the devil but as far as Jesus is with you you will prevail.

Since that day I have focused more on my relationship with God than having a personal relationship with my pastor because the personal relationship with God is the foundation. The role of the man of God is stated clearly in Ephesians 4:11-12 "and he gave some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ" so yes we should primarily have a personal relationship with God but that does not mean we will not go to church Hebrews 10:25 "not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;but exhorting one another: and so much more. as ye see the day approaching" So we MUST belong to a church and the role of the pastor is to build us up spiritually as such can be referred to our "spiritual fathers" or "fathers in the faith".

Adeboye's mandate is to preach the word of God to save souls for Christ...not for Pastor Adeboye. If there is any message that a man of God preaches that doesn't agree with you as is evident in the inner witness of the Holy Spirit then do not accept the message in your spirit but dont criticize the man of God. The bible tells us to confirm every word we hear with the bible so we are not fed a wrong doctrine. If the only word from God we get is from the altar alone then we need to look at ourselves. I know Adeboye does an altar call after every message calling for people to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ not to Pastor Adeboye.

God speaks to us through the preaching of men like Pastor Adeboye, through the Word of God and through the Holy Spirit who resides within us. As far as I can testify he tells you what the bible says that if you are not

The conclusion of the whole story is try to know who pstor Adeboye really is before generalising,I used to be a free thinker too and infact a great fan of FELA but when I came in contact with pastor Adeboye the simplicity of how to be God's child became revealed.Pastor Adeboye is a great teacher above all extremely humble.I think he is just a rare gem.My prayer is,may God give him a very long life.
