Earlier that day i was supposed to be leaving to Denver on the 6:00 flight from Houston. That same plane that left Houston at 6:00 was the one that crashed later that day in Denver. I'm accually grateful that I waited at the airport for 17 hours to leave on the 9:00.

I just hope all you people defending this guy are never in a situation where YOUR life is being put in jeapordy because the selfish fool in front of you would find it to inconvenient to "function without a wallet".....I equate your way of thinking to the "me" syndrome......as long as I am fine, screw everyone else.

OMG Midi!!!! Who cares that the gentleman stopped to grap his bag, by the sounds of it, it probably fell out of the overhead compartment onto the floor, or better yet it was on the floor under the seat in front of him - I do that all the time when I travel. This is SMART treaveling and commen sense for times like he experienced. Also, he was protecting him & his wife - I'd love to have a husband like that someday who had brains enough to have an emergency bag on hand. HOW can you find fault w/that?!?!?! I would have done the same thing! People could have died and you have enough nerve to criticize. Wow. It's people like yourself who find fault instead of blessings in life - you couldn't even say 'Thank God you're alive" - I bet you live for the 'negativity' instead of the positive.

Airlines will ALWAYS underplay what really happened to keep customers flying. It was SERIOUS what happened and another mistake the airlines made in daily routine job. I've always been told one mistake is one too many. Koudos to this couple who like myself, took the seats in the back row of the plane, I myself have taken these seats before due to airline 'mistakes' - I've always feared 'take-offs' instead of 'landings' due to the obvious. Thank God, for he was carrying all of you that day. Merry Christmas!!

Excellent writing. Visceral. I don't blame you for grabbing whatever you could of your belongings on the way out - otherwise you'd probably never see it again.

Thank you for posting your account of your extrodinary experience. I'm glad you and your wife are allright. I would have grabbed MY purse, too, if @ all feasible. How do people function w/o a wallet @ least??

I hope you are able to have a nice Christmas despite this!
