What is with many people thinking Obama is a savior? This attitude makes me dislike black people because they are black. This attitude of Obama-God is creating racism.

It is too bad that everytime Obama is mentioned he is only refered to as an African American. I believe he has a white mama so why aren't any stories done with him as a biracial president elect? I thought he was preaching CHANGE, but I think a prejudice still exists if the only side told about Obama is his black side. What about his white side? Maybe change could occur if he was refered to as what he really is. I'm sure when he is sworn in a special black holiday will be added to our calender year for this monumental occasion. The dividing of cultures occurs when ignorant people think only of the color of their skin.
2009change; how long have you lived a cave? Too long obviously! Why are the rules about being "Black" suddenly changing since Mr Obama has achieved the office of the President? As a 75 year old African American, it has ALWAYS been a fact of life and knowledge in the "United States of America" that you are Black if a SIINGLE DROP OF BLACK BLOOD CURSORS THROUGH YOUR BLOOD STREAM. Am I to understand YOU NOW WANT TO ALTER THE AGE OLD RULE? I don't think so!!! You'll get use to it!!!!
I would encourage the author to widen the perspective. It's not just an issue of black families in America, it's also an issue of ALL families in America. As an example, here in the middle of Colorado, in this county, only 20% of households with children have both parents in the home, yet only 5% of the population is black. Fully 80% of ALL homes in this area are single parent, or parents that don't live together.
The root issues of the black family are not intrinsic nor exclusive to black men, the root issues are part and parcel of the relationships that black men and black women have with each other. Blaming only one side is not the answer.
Here's food for thought: Why would ANY man want to be married when they know full well that at any time, for any reason, their spouse will ask for a divorce (since two thirds of divorces are asked for by women), and be saddled with all of the financial responsibilities, but none of the benefits, of being a husband and father? The harsh reality is that women don't need men to be fathers or husbands, they can have all of the benefits of being a spouse and mother, with none of the financial responsibilities, because the state and women in society actively promote it through social programs, family courts and the way that men are treated and regarded in general. I would suggest that the author read the works, based upon academic research, of Paul Nathanson and Katherine K. Young, a husband and wife team that have two books out of three of a trilogy on the subject of misandry in American culture. The first one, "Spreading Misandry: The Teaching of Contempt for Men in Popular Culture", and the second, "Legalizing Misandry: From Public Shame to Systemic Discrimination Against Men", are the first two and can give the author insight as to the root causes of the failure of marriage as an institution.
Please, drop the whole "all black men are afraid of marriage" theme, when in reality, the root cause is that they don't trust women because of the way that they are treated and raised by women. What man would want to be married when for their entire lives, they are taught by women and the media that they are inferior and worthless?
As my father, a black man, said to me 40 years ago, "Don't ever trust a woman, they're evil", and, "Don't argue with a woman, you'll never win".
Seems that nothing has changed in the 40 years since then.
You guys got to be kidding me ok if you are tired of Obama then just dont read it. Its like seeing a television show you dont like just dont watch it no one makes you. What she is talking about in this article is that for years all most African Americans had to look up too were superstars, actors you know. But now they have a president all these years people have been saying we are being held back, cannot use that excuse anymore.
Is there anything else to talk about but BAMA
There has to some other news out there more important than him
He's not even in office and i am already sick of looking and having to listen to him
I'm happy that some readers could identify when others were being offensive. I'm equally happy that they were able to point that out. That???s their perspective and I can respect that ??? despite my inability to agree with their assertions.
There are people who don???t know what discrimination means. I worked for several years as an EEO Analyst for a government agency. Frequently we would receive cases where people felt discriminated against ??? but they clearly were not. In 90% of those cases, they belonged to a particular protected class. They weren???t Black, and they weren???t Men. Go figure.
It???s also amazing how some believe that 12% of the population could account for all the free social services. Give us all a break. The reality is that obtaining something for nothing and free social services has been your American dream. If I struck a cord with you, I???m sorry.
Working with non-profits, being generous towards other charitable causes and raising our own families is not enough ??? however, the incoming administration offers the possibility that one day the Black Men can do as many people belonging to the general population do to achieve racial and social harmony in this country everyday ??? absolutely nothing. We may even be able to say with a straight face that racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination is dead.
Hope so. How ???bout ya???ll?
MUFASA STILL HASN`T STATED WHAT HE WOULD DO TO BRING ABOUT CHANGE.MAYBE NO SEX UNTIL AFTER A RELATIONSHIP HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED- WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT MUFASA ????????DO YOU THINK THAT MIGHT BE A PRINCIPLE WE COULD TEACH TO FUTURE GENERATIONS ?

I also feel that this logic is garbage. Married people are more stable and their kids do better, because they want to want to get married. People who want to get married have a good, stable relationship most of the time. They want a long term bond with another person. If people don't want to get married, the problem isn't the marraige itself, it's the relationship itself. Pushing people who are reluctant to commit to artificially enter a marriage, isn't going to magiclaly turn them into a functional couple.
Dear hatekoons who posted "You nigs need to go ahead and get married first before you have your niglets." It is my prayer that God blesses you with the human dignity to show respect for all people. The issue of too many African American children not being born in two family households is indeed real; yet resorting to overt racist language to address it does no one any good. We can debate night and day about the horrendous statistics. However, any intelligent person can see that now is the best time we have ever witnessed in the history of this country to move past all of the dreadful things in the past that divide us and come together for CHANGE and make this country live up to its creed.
As I white man who grew up in a predominantly white town, I can honestly say that racism is a concept which I have mainly seen existing as a discussion topic in the media and in the classroom. I have honestly never seen a white person discriminate. As a kid I used to go into the city to play basketball, and there were a few black kids who liked to use the terms "white motherf-ck-er" and other derogitory terms, but me and my friends always shrugged it off knowing that these black kids were misinformed and had been told how much whitey hates them. Many blacks are afraid of admitting that racism is for all effects dead in America bk then they would be held acctble and would not have an excuse. If you are African American ask yourself honestly how many times you have been turned down for a job or missed out on an opportunity bk of your skin color. Many blacks say that discrimination is "subtle", but what does that really mean? There are people who may make jokes about fat people, skinny people, redheads, blonds you name it.. this is not discrimination. I hear more talk about lynchings in the south than I do about gang violence. There are more black on black gang deaths each year than there have been lynchings in the past 200 years. If African Americans want to do something for themselves, they need to live in the present and see the real reasons behind their problems.

As a white woman who grew up in a diverse city, I can honestly say that racism is reality and not just a concept. I think that truly racist individuals are less common than they were 20 years ago but they certainly do exist. Racism still exists on the basketball court and in the boardroom. And anyone who tries to convince themselves that a racist with the power to hire and fire doesn't actively discrimate is deluding themselves.

I live in a very diverse city, and if anything I would say people are overeager to show that they are not racist. I have heard the term white trash used in the office but nobody would ever use any such phrase with the word black in it. I don't know where you are seeing racism. I have lived my life across a pretty broad spectrum of environments and I haven't seen it. I hear so much abt racism it is to the pt where it is driving me crazy bk it sounds to my ears like excuses, and also I see people like Al Sharpton who use this as a tool to make people angry and side with him. After the Obama victory, I saw Spike Lee come on tv for an interview. Before a word came out of his mouth I said out loud that he would talk more about how this didn't mean racism was over than he would abt how it was great for Obama to have won. Sure enough in his 2nd or 3rd sentence he said that this "can't mean the end of racism bk racism is woven into the fabric of our country".
Mufasa, I guess was speaking as a black man,he did not mention one thing that he will do,only what he expects the government to do for him. Mufasa would you mind reading the article again and then give us your opinion about what the black man can do to change past gerneralitites or realities.
I am a white female who was raised in upper middle class midwest suburbia. Ironic that the commenter "cooned" says there is no such thing as racism anymore, what a jerk. I see and hear racism all the time from rich white ignorant kids and from a lot of rural white men and women that live out in the country. It is alive and well, and I don't like how some white people who intelligently don't hang out with racist people don't believe me that it still exists. Out of sight out of mind.
