This country had been slowly evolving into that which we have sacrificed countless lives opposing--a militant nation with an agenda driven by religious extremists who promote freedom of thought only so long as it does not conflict with their own ideas. Sound familiar? We had become the enemy.

Ever since the 1960's, the GOP consistently has been, and will always be, the party of exclusion, the party that attempts to diminish those who look different than themselves, pray to a different deity, or follow a different lifestyle. They are the party that uses fear and hatred as a weapon to intimidate any who do not share their points of view. The GOP offers 20th century solutions to 21st century problems.

It is time for a fresh perspective, a new philosophy of America's place in the world. It can no longer be us versus them at all costs; the world is far too small for such a narrow-minded point of view.

It is time to embrace those who are different than ourselves and accept them for who they are--it would be the "christian" thing to do. President-elect Obama is the perfect person to lead our nation in this cause and once again transform our nation into a positive, democratic beacon for the rest of the world.

In option number four it shows that the GOP can't help itself and simply can't envision let alone address its own weakness(es). In addition, I have to observe that the stylized pachiderm logo to me looks more like that of a Mastodon than that of an Elephant. I don't think that the Mastodon thought itself slated for extinction until it was too late to remain a viable species. Come to think of it, the present-day Elephant is not really that secure in its existence. Maybe it's a subliminal thing in which the GOP envisions its own extinction due to lack of viability.

Yeah, that's exactly the look and feel you want to create. GOP colors: Red White and Black. It brings back the warm fuzzies of the 1933 - 1945 era. Plus there are sooooo many RE- words to choose from: REactionary, REactive, REtrospective, REstive, RElapsing, REtrograde, REpressive, REtalliatory.....or simply REpublican.
Give it up already: The GOP brand is dead and good riddance.

The Republicans need a lot more than a new logo! They need a new way of thinking and acting and some sensitivity classes! They need to get rid of the neocons and wingnuts and negativity and plain out nastiness. Until they do that they will remain clueless and hopeless!

From a design perspective, No. 1 is the most effective. It communicates on several levels and has a long shelf life. No.2 could be confused with the Red Cross since that have owned that symbol for decades. No. 3 is not bad, but it only tackles part of the problem. It's not really a "redesign", more of a means of communication, not a method. No. 4 could be good if the photography was more diverse and they learned how to spell.

All of this is only a veneer, though. The GOP needs to show America that it's trustworthy and capable of representing its people. After eight years of the Bush administration and its warmongering and corporate back scratching, I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.

Now that's putting lipstick on a pig...i mean elephant.

These suck. Maybe they should ask for help from the democrats.

Now we will have Designer Politicians? Oh, brother! Will this ever stop?

All of Madison Ave cannot reshape the greed and resulting lies that that is the foundation of the GOP's true belief. If they had not joined up with the racist South ( a brilliant Reagan idea) they would still be the irrelavant party of Dewey and Hoover

I thought #4 was intriguing, (typo not-withstanding), but then I looked at the children closer and they still appear extremely homogonized. There looks to be just one child of color? They're just not quite there yet. I'm not sure they ever can be.

You can put lipstick on an elephant, but it is still an elephant...lol.

When did Newsweek turn into the Huffington Post? Crap like this is just here to get angry liberals angrier. (see the hateful comments of cyborg65, who equates the GOP with Klan).

Gee, I wonder why magazines are dying.

I thought the last ad (Frog Design) was the most appealing (didn't notice they misspelled government till others pointed it out), but then, I am a Democrat, so a picture of young people in harmony is obviously appealing to me. If its the Repbublican base they want to energize, it needs to be a picture of an attractive woman in glasses, thrusting her tiny finger in the viewer's face.

Republicans want to attract younger voters? Ha! First off, a design makeover is not going to solve their problems. They need to reinvent themselves from top to bottom. First off, stop the exclusivity, did anyone notice that the Republican convention audience was about 90% white male? If that doesn't say "Ku Klux Klan" then I don't know what else does. The recent Obama "black miracle" video didn't help their cause. Secondly, stop that vitrol of hate. Third, catch up with the times technology wise. McCain didn't know how the web worked, barely used email. Did you see McCain's concession speech? I No large screens (are they technology retarded)? Again another predominately white crowd, and Cindy, do not wear clothes that cost more than a hardworking man's year salary. Overall this party needs to clean house from top to bottom, starting with getting rid of Karl Rove and don't think slapping lipstick on Caribou Barbie is going to help!

Did anyone that posted here notice that Newsweek contacted these four firms and had them toss up some designs? HA! I love how all the anti-republicans here think that this was the work of the Republican Party. Read the text, learn about what's going on, then voice your opinions! I love to hear what everyone has to say, but the comments that followed this small slide show just made me laugh. Yeah, and I sure hope as well that Frog Design proofreads their other work.

Should just put the image Tripp Johnston on a button. His image can be had for, let's see, $300,000. Can be a reminder for the kids to practice their virginity pledges.

You cannot fix the total failure of the Republican way of life by updating, I mean concealing, what it is to the outside world. About the only re-words used in the 1st add that actually work for the Republicans are reinvest, recommit, and restore. However, they all reflect on their need to reinvest in failing companies and principles, recommit to an unnecessary war, and restore us to old ways of life. Also, do they think they can win over African Americans simply by giving them the front spot on a button instead of in reality? Finally, plastering good ol' American kids on everything might work on the people already within the party, but will it really convince the savvy kids growing up today that the 'party of old' will work for them and the new future they want to make?

Slap a new logo on it? Try going back to school GOP. You are a bunch of hypocrites who when handed the whole shop abandoned every principle you supposedly stood for. The result; a lie based war, a constitutional criminal president who ushered in the biggest spending and socialist spree the US has ever seen. His other accomplishments; 9/11, Katrina, bungled Afghanistan too, oh oh, brain freeze, too much to list. And follow that up with the most viscous and vacuous campaign ever! Then there is the FACT that you ARE a bunch of racists and religious fanatics!!!!!! But a new logo should fix it all.

Actually I forgot to mention... Try, try, try as you will....you still end up with a bunch of Fascist, White Supremicist Megalomaniac Religious Fanatics only in a newer, shinier wrapper.
