Dear Kelly ND - I DID NOT trust this man (Bush) to run our country! Speak for your self. Rather, I voted for the other candidate every time...so did many other millions of Americans in 2000. Too bad Bush stole the election from the true winner. Face the facts,...Bush's legacy is a poor one! You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a........
The facts speak for themselves. This article is a load of hooey and was only written to save Bush a little bit of face. If he's so great, then why was his approval ratign the lowest of any sitting pres. for SO LONG? C'mon people - get your heads out of your empty bank accounts and smell the coffee!

It's interesting that the artical is "Where Bush Was Right". In the course of eight years Mr. Frum was only able to come up with three obscure issues that President Bush was right on. That's sad. It is now obvious that President Bush's priorities were:
    1. Himself and his inner circle.
    2. His image.
    3. His contributers, friends and lobbiests.
    4. His party.
    5. The United States (or at least the states that supported him).
    6. The people of the United States.

I truely don't think the people rated that high, but this is the quick list. Just think about the biggest bit of brag the President and his supporters have used for most of the past seven and a half years. "Since 9/11 there have been no other attacks by terroriests on American soil thanks to President Bush". But wait a second... In the past 225 years how many terroriest attacks have there been on American soil? The first attack on the World Trade Towers? President Clinton made sure the master mind was caught and sent to jail. So President Bush, where's Osama? Why has the drain on our economy, called the war in Iraq, still going on? Why has Vice President Cheney been allowed to collect $23 million a year from Halaburton? Why has the oil industry been allowed to make more money in profits in the last 8 years than their combined profites for the 100 years prior?

The legacy of the Bush administration is not going to be the protector of our country, but rampent greed, corruption, abuse of power, and as the bully of the world. He has managed to make the Clinton legacy look good by compairason.

The bush administration was warned about Bin Ladin's plan to attack inside the US... it was even name that... and they discarded it... So those that say he kept us safe are just ignorant.

And congress is not solely responsible for the Economy. If you recall the Congress and Senate had REPUBLICAN majorities when he took office and for sever years after... The Dems only recently took the majority... Bush pushed his tax cuts and other agendas and his yes men passed it on through. The Dems have been trying to repair it ever since only to get filibustered and vetoed.

Never forget that Bush has spent most of his time cleaning up after clinton. Clinton is the one who gave birth to the sub prime loan mess, he also gutted our anti-terrorism/anti america efforts by cutting the budget of the intelligence agencies. Bush has been bashed by many groups with disparate but uniformly anti american agenda. He has kept a major multi nation war in the midle east from occuring. He has tried to limit illegal aliens from entry into the country. He has tried to raise the level of education and wages while raising the standard of living and limiting the bad effects of taxes and tax and spend congressmen. He has and will be portrayed in a bad light thru no fault ot his. If his nonnative successor can do half as well he can consider himself successful.

JWalker - I am from Louisiana - I got news for you - funds have been in place for decades to fix the levees! That corrupt government mismanaged it and that was not Bush's fault. I find it laughable that you think he is responsible for that - do you think he conjured up the hurricane too?
Why must you label or insult people who defend him or our choice to vote for him? I am a tax-paying, hard-working married mother. I have many Liberal friends and wouldn't consider myself a religious fanatic. I don't dare label people who don't support him or support Obama. You may think you are superior in your opinion but you need to learn to be more respectful of those who differ from you.
Oh and go read about our history - we were attacked before Bush. At the World Trade Center in fact under Clinton ...

I voted for President Bush for both terms and I am glad I did. He was right on the war on terror, He was right on Iraq, (with all the intelligence we had then), he was right on cutting taxes on EVERYONE, he was right on the temporary worker program (even though the GOP wouldn't back him on it), and a few other things. Where I don't agree with him is his latest bailout plans that he proposed, and the Democrats voted on, then pinned it to his back with a huge dagger.

What really tells me the most about the man, is a story I read about him personally writing over 4,000 letters to every family of each servicemen that died in Iraq or Afghanistan. I don't think Clinton or Obama would do that, guys like that would be too ashamed of what those awful soldiers did, to actually tell their families thank you.

    • Posted By: Robby Robs @ 01/15/2009 1:30:08 PM

Maybe instead of writing 4000 letters he should've been fixing our country.

And besides... do you honestly believe he wrote 4000 letters? Come on. He doesn't even write his own speeches.

      • Posted By: sevenhearts @ 01/15/2009 1:54:52 PM

That is why the Four Thousand letters is such a great move and told us most about this wonderful man. Imagine if we had've had another terrorist attack during Bush term. Then you would be at the point to where we are now and too quick to judge again. Presidency is not an easy task. Do some research on this you will be fascinated with your findings. I will give all of you the last word. Some of these comments are really narrow minded individuals. Have you been hugged today? Look up every president and find that there is a negative rhetoric about each and every one of them. No president will go through any term without experiencing false accusations. We are not in the White House and we are not there to see how challenging this can be. I have a closet full of video footage of this War On Terror, edited, labeled and bagged with the bags sealed. I take this seriously if I may put in personal word in edgewise. Condoleezza Rice let's not forget her. Giuliani should have kept going. He would have won. Everyone dropped out of the race and the two that no one was going to get the majority of the votes were left and people had to choose. Yes McCain was spin. So is with all due respect, our new president elect. He will not in my opinion be able to keep us safe. He has a superman approach. He will fail. Thank you, you may have the last word.

You people who voted for Bush are either brain-washed or brain-dead. Bush lied about the war. Americans are idiots to believe anything Bush had to say because it's all lies. Bush ruined this country. Bush did NOTHING about our economy. You are an idiot, a typical stupid American.

  • Posted By: saherrera @ 01/15/2009 1:54:21 PM

I wished I could personally shake President Bush's hand and thank him for being such a strong and moral leader. Too many Americans are ungrateful for the hard decisions he has been forced to make. Were they popular decisions? No, but President Bush does not seek popularity -- he does what he feels deep in his heart is the right thing and best for our great country. I, for one, am thankful that we had a man like President Bush in office on 9/11 -- because of his resolve, decisions, and faith in God, our country has not had another attack on our soil. To President Bush and his lovely wife, Laura, I say thank you for giving eight years of your life to this mostly ungrateful nation.

911 WAS SET UP. YOU TRY TO TAKE OVER A 747 WITH A BOX CUTTER. IM SURE ITS REALLY EASY. OR BETTER YET SEE HOW LONG YOU CAN FLY A HIJACKED 747 IN RESTRICTED AIRSPACE BEFOR GETTING SHOT DOWN. OR EVEN BETTER, SEE IF YOU CAN GET JET FUEL (KEROSENE IS THE SAME S***) TO BURN AT THE MELTING POINT OF STEEL. OR FIND OUT THAT THE TWIN TOWERWS AND BUILDING NUMBER SEVEN ARE THE O-N-L-Y STEEL-FRAMED BUILDINGS THAT HAVE EVER COMPLETELY COLLAPSED DUE TO FIRE. ASK A STRUCTURAL ENGINEER HOW HARD IT WOULD BE. GOD HELP US, WERE IN DEEP S***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: mickitymike30 @ 01/15/2009 1:53:37 PM

Well, at least you know enough to ask a structural engineer his/her opinion. Lucky for your, kind sir, I happen to be a structural engineer. And guess what? You're full of it.

Steel doesn't have to melt, it only has to weaken. Jet fuel is more than capable of burning hot enough to weaking steel in a confined space to the point where it becomes plastic - that means it deforms. When the steel in the towers deformed, the buildings came down.

      Case closed.

All that the anti-Bush commentaries show is how superfically they understand the job of being President of the US to be. I am not pro- or anti-Bush knowing that what I see in the media is essentially hype and oversimplification of the complexity of this unbelievably tough job. But I have seen that Bush certainly has stick-with-it-ness to get the job he started done despite the fickle forces at home who would back out of their responsibilites to finish properly what was started (and by that I do not necessarily mean to continue being the aggressor) without thought of the long term consequences of their withdrawal for the future status of their country in terms of international respect and the acceptance of its leadership, let alone the effects of those in the country who would actually wish change to come to their lives. Those in the US who would drop everything in Iraq and other hot spots and run are relinquishing their responsibility as the citizenry of the Super Power to do something about the despots of this world. How many of those who scream against the US action in Iraq would have voluntarily gone to live under Saddam's reign? I believe the same superficiality is being shown in the current idol worship of Barack Obama, without the man having the slightest opportunity to prove to the Amercian people that he will bring the much sought for "change" (by the way, what change is exactly going to occur, by his promises? Is it going to be radical, if so, how?) for which he was elected. Is he a hero merely because he is the first "black" US President?? Is this not a racist assumption?? Surely he must be tested as a good President first and foremost, whatever his racial origins, before hero status is conferred, or am I missing the point, here?

    • Posted By: Walterg @ 01/15/2009 1:52:23 PM

I suspect that the fanfare for Obama has as much to do with the fact that Bush will no longer in office as it does with his minority status. Bush's historically low approval rating shows that many people will be glad he is gone. I like Obama but I wish he had more political experience. I don't like Bush but I do think that he did what he believed was right. For better or worse.

  • Posted By: wowrightwrong @ 01/15/2009 1:52:19 PM

Wow your all missing it. The only reason Jr. went into Iraq was to get Sadam because he had taken out a contract on Sr.s head! Iraq was the most liberal of all the muslim countries so why mess it up, which we have done a fine job of! As for Afghanistan he had no choice and at that he did a half ass job of it.

If bush was a man of principle why did he give cave to the lobbyist of the rich for their disproportionate tax breaks? why did he place incompetent "friends" in important positions? why did he politicize the justice department that in theory should guard against political abuse? whey did allow the pharmaceutical industry to write the drug bill and disallow the bulk discount bulk purchase of drugs by Medicare? etc etc etc ..F is TOO good

  • Posted By: jwalker8680 @ 01/15/2009 1:50:44 PM

A "moral compass"... are you insane? Seriously. Let???s start with condoning torture. Violating U.S. Citizen???s privacy. Hiring his friends instead of people that were qualified for the job. Stealing the first election. Allowing outright and blatant lies to win the second. Falsifying intelligence to go to war for his daddy issues, not WMD's or terrorism. Iraq had nothing to do with 911. Then how about stop-loss... Breaking contracts. Giving ridiculous tax breaks to the extremely wealthy and causing the largest deficit and increase in deficit in our nation???s history. Taking away medical care from children and soldiers.
This man is just that??? a man??? a VERY flawed one at that??? and he deserves no respect. Those that claim he was a moral compass are just right wing religious nut jobs that like the fact that Bush tried to claim to speak to god, was against gay marriage and abortion.

And he didn???t keep us safe??? We were never attacked before he was president and when we were attacked he sat there with his thumb up his butt for how long? And when people were dying in LA, because he rerouted funds set aside to repair those levies to Iraq, how many days went by before he sent in the national guard? How many resources did he immediately send? That???s right??? NONE???

On the other hand??? Kudos to this writer who was actually able to find a couple things that weren???t total clusterf@#ks over this president???s 8 years in office.

Hounddog - funny you mention water-boarding. I agree completely with you. See where in today's rounds of confirmations - one of Obama's nominees is 100% against it??? Perhaps milk and cookies will work better ...

History will vindicate Bush for his move into Iraq. History will identify the Bush Iraq invasion as a brilliant geo-political decision Bush's decision created a " war front ", as such, he was able to suck the terrorists into a conflict they could not win and would bleed them to death. The naivete of his critics is frightening.

Checking terrorist attacks throughout the years, one will discover that prior to 9/11/01, the US was attacked several times around the world. Not only the first WTC bombing on Clinton's watch, but events such as the USS Cole, our embassies, and other incidents not widely publicized. After 9/11, because of Bush's response, research shows we haven't been attacked at all. Many attempts have been thwarted, but none have succeeded. He has kept us safe throughout these years, and that is one huge thing he got right. Another extremely beneficial and positive lasting legacy are his two wonderful Supreme Court appointments. He has done what he could to protect the sanctity of life, freedom, and morality. It will be quite interesting to see the course our great country will follow now. President Bush didn't get it right all the time--noone ever does, but I do believe history will show him to be a much better president than the media and much of America perceives him to be at this time.
