Let us all not forget that the President, no matter who he is, whether you like him or not, whether you voted for him or not, is your and my representative to all other countries in the world. With that in mind and in keeping with your vote, let's not forget that our votes also elect others to lead this country. Our Senators and Congress! We as the people really need to pay some BIG attention to who is running the Senate and the House. Our Senators and members of the House of Representatives, remember that they can veto the President. He doesn't completely run the U.S. and by the way, let's show some respect for, and be more supportive of anyone who is willing to run! American's need to unite and get back to making the U.S. the strongest nation in the world! Basic principals and ethics have really hurt the U.S.

Bush's actions were governed by personal likes, dislikes and minterests. He would done good as head of the Mafia and should now be tried for war crimies and crimes against humanity by the world court. Why he was running for president, I predicted that he would invade IIraq.

It seems to me that anything that George got right was to avoid making the same mistakes that were made by hinmself or by previous administrations. This, if you are to be believed, usually means that the USA has not inherited problems but has gone a long way to creating them, whether in Central America or the Middle East. Why should he be applauded for forming alliances with India - especially with the resultant arms deals - is it not apparent that this could be the biginning of yet another cycle. The majority of todays trouble spots and seats of enduring conflict have, as their common denominator, the supply of arms to what is generally perceived at the time as a strategic ally. You could rhyme them off -

Chile, San Salvador, Iran, Iraq, Israel, African Republics.- Let's concentrate in reducing arms and reapplying technology to resolving famine and carbon reduction. Now there's an agenda worth following.

Imagine recreating Africa and the Middle East as not only self sustaining, but as politically stable continents.
The rewards will be felt by all. - Listen to Gordon Brown.

I agree with Mr. Bowes. WE as civilian are not privy to all that the President is, all the crucial intel that comes to him. The difficult decisions that are made daily. Its easy to "hate" him with how he is protrayed in the liberal media. What I know, is that we have not been attacked since 9/11, and he has done his best to protect America. He deserves respect, even if you don't agree with his policies or administration. One last note, Democrates and Republicains voted to go to war. It took both sides to vote and agree to do that. They were all givin the same informations as Bush. They all came to the same conclusion, but the most Democrates seem to forget that.

I am not happy with the state of our country today; but I guess my parents taught me the importance of respect toward other people; therefore, I respect George W. and feel he did what he thought was right for our country and does not deserve the lashing and nasty comments from citizens of this country who should learn how to spell. When I think of the 9-11 attack and how everyone was so frightened -- George W. got right up there and gave us the strength to continue with our lives. I think George W. picked up the mess that Bill Clinton left behind and I think he will be remembered for his courage after our country was attacked.

eh, mr. bowes - if such a terrible bright and articulate person like you has managed to see through the obvious efforts of a liberal press to denigrate such a fine president, maybe others (myself included) although not nearly as bright I am sure, can manage a peek through this horrible portrayal and also make a judgement - he is an idiot - which history will bear out - press or not.

I agree with Mr Bowes. We don't have the luxury of seeing the daily intel reports. And I think that when Obama gets the daily briefing, he won't be so inclined to change much, in terms of foreign policy. I feel sorry for people like mitchel6 who lack the intelligence to realize how they were manipulated by the media; as well as lacking the intelligence to form a proper sentence. This is more evidence of the denegration of public education in America.

If you recall when REPUBLICANS held power in Congress we were seeing record numbers in the stock market. Since 2006 and DEMOCRATIC takeover began, nothing in this country has gone right EXCEPT the War In Iraq and let me point out that during the presidential campaigns up until present day we dont see any news story about Iraq anymore WHY IS THAT? Could it be that President Bush and VP Cheney and the great men and women of our military are actually winning??? But that cant happen under the watchful eye of the liberal media until a liberal president comes to power in a few days. Then I guarantee there will be all kinds of positive news story on Iraq.

If he got anything right it was by default and the circumstances themselves. He offered NO LEADERSHIP DURING HIS ENTIRE PRESIDENCY. Anything you might want to possibly credit to him as having gotten "right" would be insignificant in the light of what he got WRONG. If Bill Clinton deserved impeachment, George Bush derseves jail.

Mr Frum is somewhat less delusional than usual in this assesment probably haven gotten India right. i would suggest Mr. Frum take a little trip to South America I have been met by the same refrain almost everywhere, being told " We like Americans it is just your president we disagree with......hate ( insert any adjective showing displeasure). His eight years and Chavez's willingness to confront him have given rise to leftist movements thought long gone through much of South America. As far as his counter insurgency tactics they are misrepresented , have been largely inefective and have been so costly as to be unsustainable. Supporting failed policy and giving it misleading window dressing does nothing for the authors credibility.

I think Pres Bush made many important, difficult decisions, and all put the best interests of America first. I just read a couple of days ago that the real George Bush is very meticulous, thorough, results-oriented and forward-thinking-- not at all the confused bumbler painted by the liberal press. Isn't it interesting that the press speaks favorably of Mr Bush as he leaves office. We the public have been manipulated by the liberal press throughout the Bush presidency. It strikes me as ironic that the press took a "boys will be boys" attitude when Pres Clinton desecrated the Oval Office and humiliated his family. We have passed through an incredibly difficult period fraught with financial, political, and national security pitfalls, and the press has consistently belittled the President's every move-- many of which it is now suggesting were right and should be continued "despite campaign rhetoric to the contrary." I strongly believe that Pres Bush did his level and thoughtful best without his critics advantage of hindsight.

Are you joking! Bussh is a war criminal. He should be huge by the neck until dead!

This dumbass needs to go back to Texas, he gave us nothing but hardship, he will no doubt go down as the worst President in history.

I totally agree, India-US pact will go a long way in history. US has been siding with some communist nations and military dictatorship, Bush changed that and be-friended with only democracies. It's not easy to swim against the current, but Bush did change the history. Till date, Bush has proven to be the best President US had in it's history. The recession is not because of Bush; it's not the first time recession is here. Bush should be credited to stopping the fundamentalits from taking control. It would be much easier for future US Presidents to tackle things as Bush has shown the way.
Every one likes to sleep in their soft comfy beds and dream of recognition, there are few people who have enough courage to fight for other's cause; and Bush is one of them!!

Well said and Bush has done countless more things then this biased author would dare give him credit. I can't wait until about twenty years from now when Bush is called one of the great presidents. I just hope all the AARP nazi left wingers on this site live that long, though I susoect their hate will have dried them to bones by then

      • Posted By: brycewinters @ 01/15/2009 12:47:06 PM

You call left wingers nazis and say their hate will have dried them up by the time people come around and realize how wonderful a president Bush was. Your referring to someone else as nazi-esque is full of hate in and of itself; maybe you will be the one dried up by your hate in a few years.

Frum's point of view - there must be a pony somewhere. But these ponies are pretty lame.

I clicked on this thinking that something titled "What Bush did right" would necessarily be a short article. Instead I see it's full of fluff that can only total to 3 things. Well... 2 actually, cuz I've no idea why the author would think Bush did anything right on the Iraq insurgency which Cheney famously told us was "in its last throes", 3.5 years ago.

14 days till the end of the Bush administration.

  • Posted By: buickjim @ 01/02/2009 7:43:25 PM

If in eight long years, the president has only done three things right, one can only imagine the list of biblical proportions of the things he has done wrong. Things that this country will be paying for over a very, very long time. I hope Bush goes down as the worst president in this nation's history.
