Clinton was one of the worst presidents in this countries history. He is the reason for the financial crisis as well as the housing crisis. It was Clinton who forced companies to give loans to people who had no business getting a lone. The true legacy of a president is not seen until eight years after he was president. We were prosperous under Clinton, but it had nothing to do with Clinton. The fact is whether you vote for a man or not he is our president elected by the people, for the people. We put Clinton in office twice, BIG MISTAKE. We put Bush in office twice, little mistake. We went to war it was the right thing to do and now we need to get out. I have a lot of friends in the military and everyone of them supported our presidents decision and still agree with that decision. I understand that we have lost lives and that is really sad, but here is the idea that none of us can escape the cost of freedom is never free. We freed a group of oppressed people and we preserved our own freedom. Bush and our military our hero's and nothing else. I'm so tired of ignorant media and people in this country. I do not like Obama and I am from Illinois. The other simple fact is he is my president whether I voted for him or not, and I didn't vote for him, and I will support him.

How did Clinton force them to loan the money? I have yet to here how He actually did that.

      • Posted By: claymak @ 01/15/2009 3:50:18 PM

By enacting a law that said they had to in 1999

        • Posted By: AmSharper @ 01/16/2009 3:05:02 PM

There was directive made that said they had to lower their mortgage standards slightly. In an era that the banks were making huge profits the idea they should be taking on loans from people that did not meet the very high criteria in place was sold. This was not an order for the banks to Bankrupt themselves, the whole thing spun out of control when the banks could finally hand out mortgages without worrying about having to collect them ... That happened on the republican watch with the brilliant idea of allowing commercial and investment banks to make these mortgages into investments ... that is the reason this happened and it is all on Bushies head.

bjohns777 There are oppressed people everywhere and we aren't fighing for them. Maybe because the don't have oil.

Irag was never about freedom ... and if it was they did a poor job of it. Iraq once the bastion of secuarl life in the middle east is now becoming a religous state that inforces the same kinds of rules that the taliban gave thier peoiple. All they had to for it is have 100,000 of thier citizens killed ... am sure the familes of those people thank Bush every day.

    • Posted By: Outragedallthe time @ 01/15/2009 2:59:10 PM

Also dictators as bad or worse than saddam, but Bush looks the oither way

  • Posted By: beingreal @ 01/15/2009 2:22:14 PM

WOW I wonder where all you people on your "pink cloud" about Obama are going to be in 1 year when reality sets in and nothing REALLY has changed as was promised. He has already flip flopped on a number of issues. I also find it funny how people say Bush favored his friends, etc. Has anyone looked at who is being formed in Mr. Obama's cabinet? All his friends maily from Chicago. See the lite people, geezzzzz

    • Posted By: AmSharper @ 01/16/2009 2:56:32 PM

The fact Obama reaches across the aisle to the repugs might be a concern (becasue they would never do the same) .. but maybe it is time we have a leader that talk to everyone and not just his friends. ... It is in stone that Obama sure can be any worse than the myopic partisan that came before him ....

    • Posted By: Outragedallthe time @ 01/15/2009 2:57:49 PM

Yeah - his acompetent, smart friends, unlike Bush and the "brownie" crowd

  • Posted By: beingreal @ 01/15/2009 2:24:59 PM

HEY does anyone remember where this all started? Clinton, everyone should be entitled to be a homeowner no matter what. So Now I will say we are in for the same from Clinton admin. but yes indeed a change from Bush.

    • Posted By: AmSharper @ 01/16/2009 2:51:17 PM

And there was never any order to hand out loans that would not be repaid only lower the standards slightly. Banks were still expected to do due diligence that the money would come back. The debt became toxic when they were allowed to repackage and sell them as an investments for the very first time. The republicans with their anti business control mania broke these barriers down giving some greedy banks free reign to hand out mortgages that they knew never would be paid back ??? ... Blame Clinton all you want it is the only thing besides denial that is keeping you people warm,

    • Posted By: Outragedallthe time @ 01/15/2009 2:47:11 PM

Sorry statute of limitations on blaming Clinton ran out years ago

How stupid to consider not leading the war on terrorism. If Bush didn't address it head on, the whole USA might end up as another exhibit of 9/11. Better to take it to them rather than wait for them to come to us here. If you don't think this would have happened, just wait. With the change in leadership....it might yet. Pray for our nation and it's new leadership.

    • Posted By: AmSharper @ 01/16/2009 2:42:49 PM

This 'war' could have been much better fought if the cowboy president did not decide that America was going to fight it alone. After 911 America enjoyed emense world sympathy and support that was totally squandered shortly after by Bush. Instead of pursuing the Alakda he chose instead to attack a country (Iraq) that had NOTHING to do with 911. The world saw his brainless move for what it was and did not support him leaving the US to fight the 'war' with a handful of countries instead of a near united planet. The Noecons led by Bush let their personal desires supersede the real war and that is unforgivable.

    • Posted By: Outragedallthe time @ 01/15/2009 2:39:33 PM

There was no war on terrorism in Iraq, speaking of stupoidity. And in case you didn't notice, they DID bring it here on 9/11 due to Bush & Co's negligence despite numerous warnings

I am sick to death of hearing about this "no WMD" attack on the justification for the Iraq war. Iraq USED nerve and other gases on its OWN citizens in the 80's...it was on network news on a regular basis (BTW, it wasn't Fox, as it didn't exist then...it was ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN, and the cry from the left at the time was "why aren't we stopping them"!). If a country can make insecticides (Iraq can) then it can make WMD's quickly and easily. All it takes is the will to use them...which SH demonstrated that he had.

Hussein was behaving exactly as Hitler had behaved in the mid-30's. I give Bush credit for recognizing that, and having the moral courage to govern on principle and not opionion poll in dealing with the threat that Hussein represented to the world.

Bush's reputation will grow over time, just as Lincoln's, Truman's, and Eisenhower's reputations have grown after being dragged through the mud at the time of their presidency's.

I don't like most of what Bush did as a president, particularly domestically. But he got it SO RIGHT internationally when it came to defense of our interests and safety that I have to agree with the author.

    • Posted By: Shamus651 @ 01/15/2009 3:36:22 PM

dibt ever compare bush to lincoln. Lincoln was a man of his word, man of honor, and man of the people. Bush is that exact opposite.

      • Posted By: Cincinnatus in Atlanta @ 01/15/2009 8:19:54 PM

Try reading what Lincoln's opponents called him at the time...it's exactly the kind of mud that's being thrown at Bush...

"If you don't read history, you are condemned to repeat it"...

        • Posted By: AmSharper @ 01/16/2009 2:36:30 PM

Except lincoln was not a neo con puppet and a rich boy who rode on daddies coat tails .. oh and he ended up binding the contry together where all Bush did was push us apart .... they are not even remotly similar no matter what your Carl Rove hisory book tells you ...

    • Posted By: iamsharper @ 01/15/2009 4:58:15 PM

Now there are new leaders in Iraq .. if they want to keep power guess what they are going to have to do to the same groups of fanatics that stand against them ... exactly what Saddam did. Killing your own citizens is never good thing but they are doing every day in Iraq to maintain peace in country that has always had people in it ready to rip it apart. Meet the new boss in Iraq ... same as the old one or they wont be there for long.

  • Posted By: oldenoughtoknow @ 01/15/2009 9:15:48 PM

Bush should never have been president. He made more problems for this country. I don' care if he is religious or not. What ever happened to turning the other cheek?? Ususally those who claim to be religious are not even close. He has alienated the entire world. He has destroyed the economy with his massive debt. He has failed to provide good education policies, he had failed to provide for the weak in our own society. SO what has this man done to make you so thankful?? I would say God is shaking his head in wonder at his staunch supporters. Makes no sense. Quit thinking political party lines and start thinking about the right way this country should run.

    • Posted By: fondolac @ 01/16/2009 11:03:05 AM

You sound like another one of those uneducated liberals. You don't know the real reason whywe are in Iraq. You don't know the real reason why the economy took a dive. You don't know a lot of the real truth. You want to blame somebody? Blame the liberal congress.

      • Posted By: AmSharper @ 01/16/2009 1:33:23 PM

You sound like one of the conservatives that is either a) brainwashed or b) soulless who would defend anything the republicans did no matter what that is.
I do not know the real reason because the government who was responsible for bringing us un did not bother to tell us the real reason instead they lied us into a war that they never properly justified.
I do know why the economy took a dive, deregulation between commercial and investment banks that allowed bad mortgages some greedy banks did not ever intend to keep to be sold into investments that caused the house of cards that was the catalyst to destroying the economy. This coupled with runaway unrestrained spending but a 'conservative' government caused the problem.
I do want to blame someone and I will blame the administration that was in charge ..
In spite of what the people like yourself want to spout 2 years of the Dems in congress does not over ride 6 years of total republican control ...
Most of all I do blame Bush not as a mastermind but he was the face of these people ...

    WARNING WARNING.

The article was written by David Frum. I stopped reading the article at "by David Frum".

Why won't this guy go away? He is the Bush speech writer with bragging rights to the phrase "Axis of Evil".
He is an associate of Richard Perle (aka Prince of Darkness) and the two co-wrote a very sick, sick book entitled
    "An End To Evil"

Hope you didn't read past "by David Frum".
Don't you wish this guy would just fade away?

    • Posted By: ScienceProf @ 01/16/2009 11:26:47 AM

David Frum is the LEAST of America's worries. He merely oposed the guttersniping of the lunatic leftist media - including print and putative news channels.

So many of the reporters are really "opinionators" and the Editorialists ar generally hypocrites or outright liars.

You dislike David Frum? Tell me what is there to like about a Jonathon Alter - and acolytes?

  • Posted By: ScienceProf @ 01/16/2009 11:21:58 AM

Those who are NOT WUSSIES should read the book "Gulity" by Ann Coulter.

She lays out the Bush-haters - and liars all - WITH NAMES and sourcing.

She is not for the faint of heart or for the increasing number of 'socialist-neo communists' - aka demonrats' - who yearn for government to meet ALL their perceived needs.

And have WRECKED the economy in the process.

One of her most unarguable positions - which she documents in all sttistical detail - is that over the past 20+ years, the fault for increasing crime and prison populations, increasing poverty, increasing dropout rates, decreasing heterosexual marriage, can be appropriately laid at the feet of the "single mother" - not divorced mothers with children, but those fecund females who have NEVER married.

And the people who urge them on are as the temptress "Satan" - yes, she Satan is female.

Bush - as any other President and much less so than most - was an honorable man until he was urged to select zionists for his inner circle. Along with Cheney and Rumsfeld, they urged - demanded? - that Bush re-invade Iraq becasue Iraq posed an immediate grievous threat to the United States - when it is now obvious Iraq POSED no threat to America, but was perceived as a threat to our supposed ally, Israel.

Other than that odious, unnecessary, continuing loss of American bloodshed and treasure, Bush was an "across-the-aisle" placater of the demonrat agenda: in 2 words "stronger government".

Read in "Guilty" who were/are the REALLY bad guys in American politics and their flag bearers, the media..

Since Bush has made it clear his greatest mistake was the Mission Accomplished banner; Those who think the economic collapse of America or perhaps the death of 4200 young Americans and innumerable uncounted Iraqis in the search for pig in a poke WMD's are greater mistakes must be delusional and overstating trivial issues.

I would like to point out Bush stated;"in his final speach "all" Americans pay less tax is not quite correct the tax cut for people making $40,000 was exactly zero. another trivial oversight I'm sure since so very few Americans fall into that catagory. And God forbid anyone should call it yet another bald faced lie.

George-the-lesser will go down as the worst President in American history. In August 2001, he ignored an intelligence report entitled ???Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside the U.S.??? and by doing nothing made the 9/11 hijackers job infinitely easier. He lied about evidence of WMD and used those lies to start a war to grab oil and ???avenge??? his daddy. He ignored the advice of his top military advisors that the post-war occupation of Iraq would require 420,000 troops allowing the country to degenerate into Civil War. His ???surge???-actually an increase of about 10% in troop strength- had nothing to do with the decrease in violence-it just happened to coincide with the end of that Civil War, the Iraqi's having completed their ethnic cleansing , including the dispossession and brutalization of 500,000+ Christians. While making Iraq safe for western oil companies, he totally underfunded and undermanned the operations in Afghanistan, allowing the return of the Taliban and insuring no interruption in 90% of the world's heron production bound primarily for Europe and the United States. His contempt for all workings of Government led to his filling the top positions in every agency with incompetent neo-cons whose dedication to ???deregulation??? led to the current financial meltdown. His energy policy was designed by Ken Lay of ENRON who named the people to be appointed to run the Federal Energy Regulatory Board, paving the way for a multi-billion dollar fraud against the people of America. His appointments to the Justice(sic) Department condoned torture and rendition. His appointees at the SEC turned a blind eye to the rampant speculation that created the 400% increase in gas prices during his administration. Finally, his ???tax reform??? created the greatest transfer of wealth from the middle class to the top 1% in the history of the planet while saddling future generations with a mind-numbing debt of $12 TRILLION.

    • Posted By: JJordanNDH @ 01/16/2009 9:03:42 AM

And what pray would he have done? That particular "intelligence report" if you could call them that offered no specifics relating to hijackings, but why let fact get in the way of a good hatred. Perhaps if Bush wassn't so busy cleaning up the vandalism from the previous administration(Remember the missing "W's" on the keyboard, how mature) and making sure to change the run in the Oval Office(too much DNA from previous administration) perhaps he could have convinced security at the airport in Boston(Teddy Kennedy and John Kerry's hometown) to racially profile Arab American men coming through the airport. I'm SURE the ACLU would have raised no objections along with the Democrats iin Congress.

Four attacks during the Clinton Administration and if you think for a moment that that attack was not planned while under Slick Willie's watch, you are brain dead. Bottom line is he did what he had to do in the aftermath to protect this country and should be commended as such.

  • Posted By: lltroy @ 01/16/2009 3:36:29 AM

For eight years we've trusted this man to run our country. He's had ideas and has responded to the needs of us as a nation. I'm tired of all the Bush bangers because they don't like the way things are going. Take a long look at yourself and who you've put into office in your local areas. Who is representing you in Congress, another one of the many criminals who are driven by greed and self interests. One man didn't bring this country down, look at the cooperation he received from the House and Senate. When you inject the tree huggers and stupid federal regulations, along with the congressional clowns you elected, his hands were tied and his ideas could go no further. Why is Bush blamed for items that we are responsible for ourselves. There are many good examples. We know the war is costing great deals of money and it's taking our taxes to pay for that. The cost there iis not Bush's fault. How about the people who are living beyond thier means. Yes, spending more than they should. If your output exceeds your income, your upkeep will be your downfall. How true that is and too many want it now.... the house, the boat, the whateever. Plastic money and your willingness to over use it has brought this country to it's knees financially. It's the people who are in trouble and are crying. How long can we go on not paying the band so we can dance? .After that is all relative. People are short of bucks, they don't spend and peoplle lose jobs from lack of sales. Clean up your own spending habits and don't blame your poor decisions on someone else. If you weren't smart enough to figure out if you could afford that payment, you put yourself in that spot. Again there are "criminals" involved here, the mortgage pushers, the phone salesman, the loan lender, the car dealer - all telling you you're good to go. The trouble is YOU need to know if you're good to go. They make their sale but you live with the payments. Another example of "shoot Bush" is the natural disaster response to Katrina. What about the locals doing things for themselves? Where was their elected leadership and planning. Of course it's easy to blame others and start crying for handouts - that's the easy way to be taken care of. Start taking care of yourself. The list of things go on and on. In my opinion President Bush is a brave man and tried to do what he could for the better interest of this nation. He's an easy target because of his office and many people are not will to accept the course they charted for themselves. I've found there to be two types of people - givers and takers. Unless it's responsibility, quit taking and start giving back to help out.

    • Posted By: airbus737 @ 01/15/2009 10:44:31 PM

If Bush ever had a single original idea he would be even scarier than the results of his 8 years of catastrophic BS -- he has destroyed the Country and used FOX News as his sounding pimps.

    • Posted By: lauriesarno @ 01/15/2009 1:56:13 PM

Dear Kelly ND - I DID NOT trust this man (Bush) to run our country! Speak for your self. Rather, I voted for the other candidate every time...so did many other millions of Americans in 2000. Too bad Bush stole the election from the true winner. Face the facts,...Bush's legacy is a poor one! You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a........
The facts speak for themselves. This article is a load of hooey and was only written to save Bush a little bit of face. If he's so great, then why was his approval ratign the lowest of any sitting pres. for SO LONG? C'mon people - get your heads out of your empty bank accounts and smell the coffee!

      • Posted By: kellyin ND @ 01/15/2009 6:12:40 PM

I'm sorry that you don't always get what you want. Your opinion is important, just as other's is. Your right to vote for him or not was your decision and as a nation, we put this man in office. It wasn't up to just you or me. I could care less who you voted for, as long as the elected official placed in office does his job. Would you prefer the Clinton family in office. He's chasing around after interns and she's buddies with the criminals she defended years ago, ie the Black Panthers. The Clinton circus didn't start when they entered the White House. Bill had supported what turned out to be terrorists. He had Bin boy's head offered to him on a platter and he didn't want it. And then the guy plans out 9/11 in the next administration. There are many ltroubles left simmering after the Clinton clowns left with the silverware. Why has his approval rating been for so long. Because we have alot of unhappy people who have been unhappy for so long. Nobody likes war. Nobody likes paying so much for gas and groceries, etc etc. We have slowly shot ourselves in the foot. We have thousands and thousands of people wanting to get into this country. Do you see many fighting to get out. This is a great nation and we're unhappy about all the giving we have been doing when it comes down to being impossible to survive ourselves, when so much is given to those coming in. What have we done? We've spent more than we should, got deeper in debt and have lost our homes in some instances. As I said before, there are givers and takers. The trouble is there are too many takers. I'm not talking just the illegal immigrants. Let's look from CEOs to the local bully on the block. What made this nation great was it's giving. Giving food, medicine, grain seed, construction equipment, the list goes on and on. This giving gets expensive, just llike war, and people are getting tired of the giving. When people are unhappy they look for a reason. With the world situation and considering the politics as told to us by the media, it's easy to have him as an easy target. If you really think Bush was that bad, consider the clown act he had to folow. Better yet, just watch what happens in the next four years when smooth tallking meets the real world.
