This is a stupid article. It is discriminatory in tone, furthering the fallacy that the rest of the world is white men's burden. India is a responsible democracy, so is Israel. Pakistan is a falied state and a net exporter of terrorism, destruction and mayhem. It should be broken up into small pieces. Pakistan should be disintegrated, all its nuke engineers and scientists should be in Guantanamo or with 72 heavenly prostitutes, and whatever is left of Pakistan should be made the protectorate of India.

you find it discriminatory? you stupid slumdog. stop dreaming about pakistan being made a part of India, blah blah...

Infact the solution to all the problems would be division of India. India has problems with all its neighbours, incl. pakistan china bangladesh and srilanka... So it would be better to divide this slumdog land among these countries...

It's time for people to start the safe VOTE, with sfate policies, and accountability to the electorate. The farce we have today called DEMOCRACY is a nonsense. And these leaders we have today are the most dangerious in worlds history. Bush and Brown being the most dangerious since Adilph Hitler. Racking up huge debts, irrsponsible wars, lies to start wars, and stupid policies, new policies that does more harm than good. And turning the world into a DICTATORSHIP.

Now Gordon Brown thinks he is a world leader, and he can't lead the country he was never elected to govern. What is necessary is International laws being applied, not for some but all, we are indanger of creating a Neo Fascist State in America and Britain. An open door policy for Muslims to come to Britain so they can be arrested and accused of being Terrorist, and create hatred and discrimination.

Nuclear bombs should be dismantled because who ever invented these Missiles must have been mad, to dream of killing all life on earth is the desire of a mad man, and George Bush was close to being that idiot.

this was a terrible mistake and truly its an unholy pact between two wolves pretending to be in sheeps garb -india has 60 percent people below poverty line and usa is a bankrupt state ,
congratulations on two evil predators who prey on their small neighbours on shaking hands ,
it virtually shows that the whole conspiracy of 9/11 was to just intervene in iraq for oil and to strip pak of its nukes -

well sam and slumdogs can rest assured people are not so stupid that they do not comprehend their silly chess games as if others cannot play better ,
remember the russians are best at it ,lolz

have you noticed how quickly pakistans kiyani was in beijing signing a nuke treaty with china .

now indo americans can lick each other all over from head to toe -for eternity ,
    they deserve each other .
    2 fascist states
one with gujrat genocide and demolition of mosques behind it
and the other with concentration camps like gitmo bay and abu garib on its pathetic human rights record with celebrated crimes like the bombing of dresden and hiroshima on record .
and of course they had engineered the creation of bangladesh too -only it backfired in their faces -now they are in for another big surprise and north korea is not listening to them neither is iran and i would like to see what and how are they going to stop them .
the time for neutered bull terriers with rabies has gone with the wind

Joe Cirincione, Robert Einhorn, MIchaewl Krepon, Ed Markey: For some reason, you seem to ignore reading the tea leaves when it comes to the Indo-U.S. strategic ties and nuclear collaboration. Any rational American-including myself- has concluded that the world is an increasingly dangerous place. Pakistan has just released AQ Khan, its chief nuclear scientist, who was responsible for selling nuclear tech to Iran, Libya and N. Korea through a global nuclear wal-Mart. The Taliban-labelled firendly Taliban by the Pak Army-is only 100 miles away from Islamabad where they are running a parallel government. The US is contemplating bombing the Taliban's head Mullah Omar and his Islamic buddies with drones in Quetta Pakistan- where he is the guest of the Paki Govt. after he aided Bin Laden. With a taliban takeover of PAk's nuclear arsenal, the U.S is the only power tasked with securing Pakistan's nukes against Al Qaeda Islamists. China has merrily proliferated nuclear technology to Pakistan and indirectly, missile technology through its satellite, North Korea- with U.S. C-130 transport planes bringing nuclear tech to North Korea and returning with missile technology from North Korea to Pakistan as verified by leading US intelligence and media analysts. China does this to keep INdia in the India-Pakistan box so that India would not be a threat to China's so called peaceful rise as Asia's sole superpower.
In this perilous climate, America needs India as a bulward against Islamist expansionism and as a hedge against China's expansionist ambitions.
China will be faced with Islamist attacks- a situation that it refuses to acknowledge despite its UIghur terrorists trained in Pakistan- after the Islamists finish their agenda against the US, Europe, India and Israel. Hyperspacer below-you are a Chinese sixth columnist and you should state your real name rather than hiding your nationality behind tech terms! Despite Neville Maxwell's book, Mao and Chou-En_Lai did the dirty on India, only nine months after they signed the Panch Sheel Peace Treaty and a few years after India sponsored China for admission into the U.N. before the 1962 War where Indians fought the Chinese Army in the Himalayas with single-shot rifles and Cotton Gear n a totally unprepared war. You guys were folloowing Sun Tsu's teachings at his best, kudoes to you! India now has the nuclear power and will never again be subjugated by yiou despite your mealy-mouthed expresions of peace. Your enablers-lisated on top- should stop dreaming of rolling back India's capabilty and fight the real threat to U.S. interests. Incidentally, the Indian Communist Party which has the fewest seats in Parliament, wants the same thing- to roll back and cap India's nuke progarm as they are acting on behalf of Beijing. So U.S. anti-nuke ayatollahs are now on the smae page as the Communists in sabotaging U.S.-India Strategic Partnership in this dangerous world where we need all our allies on board.

    Dear Sir.

The author has failed to comment on the "Responsibilities" of the Nuclear 5. Their responsibility to reduce the nuclear arsenal, not attack any state (All powers have failed in this aspect) and nuclear proliferation where China leads the list.
Whilst the Author might be accurate in noting that there were financial incentives- the author could also possibly consider the effect of not having an accord as such in place. Is the world prepared for India to build coal fire power plants at the rate china is building to meet its energy needs? Will the world accept the accompanying consequences viz. pollution and comment whilst reefusing to share technology.
    This article is shallow.

One of the dirty secrets of India is that it has not been a peaceful country, despite being a democracy, which is so often reminded to us by its politicians. Just ask any of its neighbours and you will know. This is a country that instead of using its new found affluence to improve the lives of its citizen, spend billions on arms. How do you explain that shortly after its independence, in 1957, when the country was much more poorer than now, found the money to buy a second hand aircraft carrier from Britain? For what other than being a bully? And if you read Naville Maxwell's book 'India's China War', the aggressive nature of India is there for all the world to see.

India is just being used by the US as a tool and the US is hoping that India will happily be its deputy in the region knowing that Pakistan and Afghanistan are hopeless. The nuclear deal is just a lure and when India starts the nuclear power generation project, India will not only be indebted to the US, but will also be dependent on the US and thus India will not only be a willing deputy but also will be subjugated by the US. Indian leaders have also been bribed into agreeing with the deal and their visions have been blurred. India is already more powerful than Pakistan in conventional terms. India can just use diplomacy and political maneuvers to deal with Pakistan while saving a lot of money and energy. India has long been a friend of Russia and have normal relationship which China and has not made any enemy with other countries. Infact India is also in good terms with Israel. India's relationship with the US has always been cordial. The money used by India should have been spent on creating more jobs and businesses and increasing the standard of living and alleviate the millions of its poor population instead of spending on unnecessary high-tech field which benefits just an elite of its population. As for energy, India has not been seriously invest into R&D for alternatives, which is rather silly because India has the humans resources (brains), the potential (the industrial base and material resources) and the market ( its big population and the entire world). Going into nuclear is just narrow minded and will not create more revenue for the country. India should do more reasearch to create new products for the world in terms of cheap, renewable and eco-friendly form of energy. India is so pathetic that China is able to be a new economic power despite being in seclusion for decades. India should have been the world's producers of affordable elctrical goods and home appliances, not Japan or China. India being India is just hopeless. The US will one day find it to be hopeless too.

Where were you when Pakistan was clandestinely incrporating it's nuclear ambitions along with some of the so called axis-of-evils. There was not a single article anywhere in the face of the earth, including you. Weren't you born by then?

India's stand is clear. Nobody should have nuclear weapons. If any country can have, then so can India. Especially if communist regimes like China can have nuclear weapons, why nit similar sized, democratic India?

  • Posted By: H.nazar @ 01/06/2009 6:13:10 AM

The USA and France supplied nuclear technology to Israel so it could have a nuclear bomb. During the Korean war the US seriously considered using Nuclear weapons against China(this was prior to China having nukes). India exploded a nuclear device in 1974, and called it a 'peaceful explosion'. then it retests in 1998, and straight away the Indian goverment starts sabre rattling against Pakistan, Lal K.Advani suggested teaching Pakistan a lesson, by attacking various sites in Pakistan, it was at this point Pakistan decided to test its own devices.

If India's research is to advanced then why do they need the USA, in actual fact the Indians are not capable of producing reactors. The USA has shown that any international agreement can be broken as long as you are economically and militarily strong. As International laws do not apply to powers but to small states who cannot protect themselves.

    @ajka
'US has been treating India and Pak alike or decades'
actual reason for that was cold war, India sided with USSR and Pakistan sided with USA(to its detriment, as US has always been a fairweather friend). Only with the demise of the USSR did India look to the USA as its new patron.

  • Posted By: ajka @ 01/04/2009 2:19:09 PM

US has been treating India and Pak alike or decades, which were their worst mistake. India has been a responsible democracy since its inception, whereas Pak has been ruled mainly by military dictators and gave nuclear know-how to Iran and N Korea.
US-India nuclear pact is infact, a great achievement for US as India will prove to be it's truest partner in setting the world order. Can you rely a communist China or a militant Pak? Think straight and you will realize that ultimately US needs some reliable partners; otherwise also, India is acapable of developing it's own nuclear reactors as it's research is quite advanced.
The principle of equality wheras, is good, could not be applied in the context of nuclear technology. To acquire equal opportunities n nuclear field, the nations have to show responsibilty and be democrat, otherwise, very soon these weapons will be sold to Talibans or Jihadis by some over jealous communist or islamic fundamentalists.
Iran's dreams in regards to Israel and Pak selling nuclear technolgy to Iran and N Korea very much shows what might happen if irresponsible nations aquire nuclear technology.

Boo hoo hoo. White man A-Bomb, great. Brown man A-Bomb, bad. Maybe you should realize the only proliferator of nukes and the only country that has actually used them on humans (twice) is the good old US of A. The only reason you have a nuke deal is because your pathetic US corporations were making no sales of reactors in the US not to mention world wide. Go ahead and pull out. India has one of the largest reserves of Thorium and it is a matter of time before they make nukes from that as well. Maybe we'll have to come and ask for your permission then also. No wonder Rudyard Kipling wrote "White Man's Burden." Glad to see it is alive and well even now.

In response to India-America Nuclear deal Pakistan has already worked out similar deal with China......so Mr Bush already started nuke race in south asia.

  • Posted By: LETHALFORCE @ 01/02/2009 11:18:59 AM

very ignorant article. I suppose Pakistan proliferating nuclear technology to make
weapons to Iran, syria, north korea is okay with you.
