Washington's BUDGET is supposed to be TAXES by EARNED INCOME and the taxes are supposed to deliver services for the people of the nation, as WANTED by the people and money best used for GOOD GOVERNMENT, not red ink trillions in debt military weapons sold to the undeveloped nations as the leading nation of weapons sold, it is heinous and not at all "government for people" and the money spent is entirely illegal.

The U.S. Constitution provides Congress with the duty of passing the budget and with the power of the PEOPLE (535 representatives) to delcare war when necessary. Unprovoked war when peace is expected and due, is unconscionable spending of red ink money--there is no money to support the spending, it is deficit spending and in the trillions.

Sane Americans do not want this spending.

The media loves it and says stupid things such as the above, which says, "they can close markets down, nationalize firms and write new rules. And, Washington has one other, unique power, it can print money." SHAMEFUL statements. Not in the public interest. A balanced budget in the black with public interest priorities on track is doable WHEN AND IF you cut the military trillions in debt spending. Nader offered to do that. He is smart and sane and has a legendary track record of good laws such as Clean Air, Clean Water, Auto Safety, and Freedom of Information and even the founding of the En vironmental Protection Agency.

But, while his candidacy was on 45 state ballots and there were three other less heavyweight but certainly worth seeing and hearing, the media wanted the military industrial complex and picked the two party corrupt WORST because they both are corrupt unprincipled warmongers against all proper policy as if military is what America IS. It is NOT supposed to be, and Has to stop!

Democracy and the Free Market System can be spread best by our success. It is important for the United States to focus on it's economy and streamline it's government. We must regroup and set a good example for the rest of the world to follow. We must pull out of conflicts in other parts of the world and work with the United Nations to bring relief efforts and (when needed) military support.

Actual quote of Ralph Waldo Emerson, from "Brainy Quotes" on the internet, cite not given, just Emerson quotes, which I use for my personal inspiration, but this one jumped out this morning, as fiting current events, with MY VIEW, I believe Emerson was slighting the actual Presidency role, entirely, and suggesting all men owe strong support of citizenship and honor to support both society and good government. BUT, here's the precise given quote: "Washington, where an insignifiant individual may trespass on a nation's time." Trespass is a stronger and worse state of affairs than waste. It implies harm. Back to my opinion of Obama, I do not see any leadership qualities and no track to support the current impending situation. There were two speeches, I found on the internet, one before his election, lambasting Bush and Buhs' Iraq War, and second, the 2005, post Senate election, where he sounds entirely as if he is a complete flip flop of pure sleeze and nothing else, when you put both in the context of WHY he gave those speeches and WHEN and WHAT outcome he expected. Certainly he got into office based on his outspoken despising of BUSH. Many of us believe BUSH already trespassed entirely on our nation's time, as well as the Middle East's! And, those of us who watched how he did get into Iraq, was his circumventing the United Nations, I remain very unimpressed with his JOHN BOLTON who was offensive to many in this country and likely the United Nations and likely Kofi Anan was being DIPLOMATIC at the time. Trying to make peace with the United States and maintain law and order, expecting RESULTS! Obama is sleeze, in my view. How about forcing him to face the nation and his two contrasting speeches and BUSH as to the PRE SENATE speech? How about the media telling the nation why the nation had only two incumbents to choose for a President and the media refusing NADER proper visibilty during the proper campaign CHALLENGE TO STATUS QUO time for the nation to get the proper contrast of AGENDA offered by the INCUMBENTS versus the CHALLENGERS giving the proper power to the 89% polled who said the nation is OFF TRACK!?

Where did allo this media admiration for Obama come from? HE HAS ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING AND HAS SHOWN NO WISDOM. Sleeze and media hype promoted his flip flop political slamming against Bush before his Senate Election, and then his reversal to say he would do what Bush has done, invite the physical harm to soldiers and pound his cowards' chest in pride. Of course he did not admit the cowardice showing. No diplomacy, no respect for law and order or the EXTREME offense against the nation for UNWANTED WARS DECLARED BY BUSH AND OBAMA AND THE MEDIA WITH GLEE AND ENTHUSIASM. Where did the media get the right to say Obama deserved ANYTHING at all? How? How do they expect to hold the strings they have used to put him in office against all proper U.S. Constitutional DUTY to offer DEMOCRACY for AMERICA. We did not have an election. I voted for Ralph Nader who EARNED my vote with proper cause for the accolades the media is heaping on Obama 100% without cause, as far as the eye can see. He is an incumbent who deserved booting. The media told the public they had TWO choices, only TWO PARTY CORRUPT POLITICS allowed by the media. How did the media come to such strange enthusiasm for an "insignificant man in Washington who can waste the time of a nation:" and worse, the WORLD? (a paraphrase from Emerson of Washington is where an insignificant man can waste the time of a nation.)

New Trouble for an Obama Nominee: Admiral Dennis Blair Aided
Perpetrators of 1999 Church Killings in East Timor

ALLAN NAIRN: Well, Admiral Blair was involved in supporting the Indonesian armed forces as they were massacring churches in East Timor, as they were killing civilians in 1999 in the run-up to a UN-sponsored free election. That election was due to decide whether East Timor would become independent. The Indonesian army was trying to stop the occupied Timorese from voting for independence, so they set up militias, which went on rampages.

In one incident, they went into a church in Liquica where refugees were hiding. They massacred them with machetes. Their flesh was found plastered to the walls. Two days after that, Admiral Blair went to meet with the Indonesian commander, General Wiranto, and he gave him reassurances that the US was still behind him. He offered him new US military aid. And even though Blair had been told by the State Department and the White House to tell Wiranto to stop the massacres, Blair did not do that. This is according to classified US cables which I obtained in 1999 and reported in The Nation magazine.

After that, when people at the State Department heard about what Blair had done, he was told to talk to Wiranto again. He again spoke to Wiranto, on the phone, and again reassured him, offered him new US military aid. Blair even offered Wiranto aid for the specific unit, the Brimob, the paramilitary police who had gone into that church as they chopped up the refugees and chopped up the clergy who were hiding there. General Wiranto naturally took this as reassurance. He escalated the attacks. Wiranto was later indicted for crimes against humanity. Blair has not been held to account.

And now, they say Obama wants to make him Director of National Intelligence.

Bury your head in the sand if you wish but we are not living in the world of the 1800;s where the economies, cultures, and governments of people more than five miles away from us of of no consequence. Globalization is not a word, conceptualization, nor a marketing stategy it is the reality you may choose continue to live in or remain a relic.

Put your head in the sand if you wish, but we do not live in the world of the 1800's where economies, cultures, and people that are not 5 miles from us do not matter. Globalizations is not a word or a conceptualization nor even a marketing scam but a description of what is. It is yours to choose whether you want to be part of reality or a relic.

Listen, all this talk of 'globalisation' is G-L-O-B-A-L-O-N-E-Y !

It is being propagated by Big Buisness, Big Media and Corporate Pimps & Traitors at the expense of ordinary working class people everywhere, all over the world; and the main ENGINE BEHIND ALL THIS IS GOOD OLD FASHIONED G-R-E-E-D, propelled by the internet and faster modes of transportation.

That is all there is to it !

It is NOT 'rocket-science' for God's sake !!!!!!!!!!!

As much as i love america we have sliped past okay we talk about how the other people in the world are doing wrong whats going to happen to us while they are trying to fix other peoples promblems we are digging our own grave. Growing up in school they tell us the great things that america has done for the world...... But now what do we tell other generations???

  • Posted By: lemondrops @ 01/08/2009 11:15:27 AM

I am ashamed to be called an American. With the majority of the public off in never never land. Stop trying to fix the world when America won't fix itself. Now, I think its just about impossible for America to help itself with an over eager know it all who knows nothing ,going to reside in what used to be the white house. Worry about yourself, build this country back to being a strong independent nation. We have everything we need right here in this country to do that very thing. Stop butting in others affairs when we now can't take care of ourselves.

The first thing would be to stop making and giving weapons to everybody.
I am not sure that the world countries have to unite on all front to achieve stability. We have a better chance to achieve it if we resort to microeconomics in someparts of the world based on speciific needs of the country.
Having all so called gadgets we have does not translate in a better standard of living, there is a dimension of materialistic obsession we do not want to export .
In some area like disease and economics we must cooperate, The growth of the country has to be evolutionary not based on growth alone, growth has to be balanced by diverse and new techs...and a concern for the finite resources we use.

Am I the only one afraid here? I can not see a one world power as a good thing. There are to many different ways of thinking to merge into one way of Governing. I do not want a "Big Brother" looking over me and telling me what to do and how to do it. To me the one world thing boils down to this, the rich and powerful and the rest as slaves to provide them with food, shelter and what ever goods they need. If I am wrong then I just pray I am long dead when this comes to be. I am even more afraid for my grandchildren and great grandchildren. NO ONE WORLD POWER

    • Posted By: McLovinB @ 01/02/2009 1:41:40 PM

Looking over your shoulder are you?
How do you think people in Non-USA countries have felt for the last decade?
One world government has basically been the US government. Big brother has produced a war here and a war there to keep everyone in line. A few abductions here, a little torture there, lengthy imprisonment without charges.
If Americans fear how the rest of the world is going to treat them now that they have been exposed as a bully debtor nation, then maybe it is time to think about why you expect other countries to treat the US any differently than the US has treated them in the past. Maybe more weapons will make you feel better? More spying?

You see, it is all a matter of perspective. This is why Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton probably did more for US security than Nixon, Reagan, and Bush, in the long run. Creating partnerships and consensus will serve America much better in the years ahead than unilateral action shaped by a few people in Washington. France and other nations tried to warn the US against unilateral action and nation building, but all that pride and hubris in Washington just would not listen. The US swaggered into Iraq while banning French fries and champagne.
Remember that? Americans automatically assumed that something was wrong in France, despite Lafayette, despite Liberty herself. I remember the US waving off the French efforts at help... the US was like a drunk driver on New Year's Eve... telling France to butt out while the US got behind the wheel of a disastrous war.

A country, like the US, that relies so heavily on dominating the rest of the world to ensure its security must instead become willing to accept others' sovereignty in a plural world and discipline itself. If it does not, it will never be secure. Every friend will seem like an enemy. Every government that is different will be a challenger. The Cold War, as described in 1984, will continue indefinitely.
America will become increasingly isolated and will stop learning if it cannot stop the xenophobia that you describe, IvUSAproud.

It is not doublespeak to say that Big Brother is alive and well in a country where rich is poor, and peace is war, and security is domination.

This is why the new generation of America (which I am a part of, being only 18) elected Obama. We are tired of being laughed at and insulted by other countries. We want to reach out, not barricade ourselves in. I am sometimes ashamed to call myself an American, but I love my country, so I know I will always reside here. Our generation wants to become more involved, we want to learn and we want the world to forgive us of our atrocities.

The Borgen Project has informative statistics on addressing global poverty.

    $30 billion ends world hunger
$550 billion is the US Defense budget

This organization has the ability, resources, and policy-makers to suppress the threat of global poverty by enacting legislation here in the US, which is tied to the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals. Please support organizations such as The Borgen Project so that we may rid the world of poverty.

Fareed wrote: "The management of U.S. political and military power remains the single most important task for global stability." Who will manage U.S. political and military power? If you read enough of his commentary, you would know that Fareed would have the rest of the world gleefully managing this task.

Fareed would also have the rest of the world manage us into the second rank of nations. If you are an American who loves your country and her people, do not be seduced by this man's graceful use of our language. At his core, he despises this nation and espouses policies that will make our nation weaker and potentially subject to powers other than the will of the American people.

Here, here, Hopfrog!! Clear and insightful commentary. And...true. It's frustrating that there is so much One World/New World Order sewer spew going on in all facets of the information genre (journalism died in 2008) and many people just lap it up like a cat at the anti-freeze trough. But in reality, there are millions of us, young, old, rich, poor, male, female, black, white and purple who are smart enough to see what's happening. The death and absorbtion of the U. S. A. has been in the works for a long time but I wonder if they've played their hand too soon.....

Fareed is looking beyond when he said that it is a crisis of globalisation. As we know, globalisation is like a coin with two faces. I thank him for reminding me of a larger force at play, which we should always bear in mind in our calculations. Although we will not see the end result of it, we should always view it as a plus and harness its attributes.
