It is still a start. No, one strategy should be used. Natural gas has not gone up in Europe, and you still have to remember that we can produce our own. What other opritunities are there for mass transit??? I do agree with you that we need other technology but not in the transportation sector. Natural Gas hybrid is were it is at.

"Weaning" off oil is a must, but natural gas is also a finite resource, and its price will also rise once demand for it rises. There are better, unlimited resources--renewable energy sources. True, they are more expensive right now. But with more government incentives and increased installed capacity, their costs will fall.

I have to agree with this article as well. We are in such a key moment in history, between wars, economic struggles, and techonological advances. The thought of "weaning" off oil will be nothing but beneficial for society, not just the US but the world. Just imagine the number of jobs that will sprout to start meeting the future demand of alternative fuel and energy, and how much better the envoronment would be, and how that could help our recession. Natural gas seems to be the smartest thing, but others like hydrogen and ethanol are not close behind. And like "dadoxin" put it: let's hope Obama doesn't get the oil companies in his back pocket. I don't think he will, and I think this is the change we're going to need.

That is a great arguement. As I sit here in Naples, Italy where they burn there trash for fun; they have 70 to 80 percent of there buses that run off of Natural Gas. Due to high taxes on gas personal vehicles have moved to the same or GPL. If a government such as Italy's can produce such a thing in mass quantaties, I know that the US can do the same. Lets hope Obama doesn't get the oil companies in there back pocket and really delivers the change that is needed.
