Purchase-power-parity adjusted GDP projecftion for the US will be 17 trillions; China 14 trillions by 2013 ( Wikipedia)
Current US external debt is 12 trillions and China one-third of a trillion ( CIA fact-book)
Current US foreigh reserve 70 billions; China 1500 billions
Current US annual deficit could be over 1 trillion this year ; China surplus 370 billions

The 2 polarized giants need to help each other. If they wrestle so that even one of them falls; the rest of the world get crushed

2 or 3 major countries stop buying Chinese cheap stuff and all this air will evaporate. There is no inner strength in Chinese economy. See what happened to toy factories and tainted milk plants. Until honesty and democracy comes to Chine, it can never come close to be world leader.

Haas lives in a dream world. One hopes that the Chinese government is as keen to get into this relationship as he is in extending it. The reality is that China is a trading nation and does not have the natural resources to match American economic power, it at best has to go shopping around the world for natural resources and they can be difficult to get.
America must persist in extending its global leadership because the values of freedom and democracy will scarcely be replicated by China and there is no sign that China will subscribe to these values at any point in time. One also has to see the impact of decline in American power in the broader context. If America is unable to match the rise in Chinese geo-political power, then the decline will be accelerated. It will mean that America will no longer be able to retain its Economic or Geo-Political supremacy.

"That said, there's plenty Beijing needs to do, too. It should continue to exercise restraint on Taiwan. It should allow its currency to keep rising to a more natural level, in order to prevent its trading partners from turning to protectionism."

Why the hell have we not enacted policies against China for artificially keeping the value of the yuan down? Lets take our $700 billion TARP money and buy RMB!

The spread of nuclear weapons is NEVER going to be totally stopped until the United States stops acting like the 'people with all the answers' in the world and start butting out of the affairs of other countries.... unless they are putting down their own citizens.

Cooperation between the US and China is important, but it does not solve many of America's problems. For the last 8 years, the United States spent an enormous amount of resources to dealing to terrorism and war in the Middle East. And it will likely continue for the near future. This biggest problem for the US is that it assumed the role as a world leader, but refuse to be impartial when it comes to the conflict between Israel and the Arab world. When the most powerful nation on the planet is pleadging its support for Israel no matter what it does, the resulting hatred is the root cause of Muslim terrorism in the world. If China is to play by American rules and turn against the Arab world, it is only inviting trouble for itself. Terrorism is imposing a gigantic cost on the world, the Western world in particular. China was one of the few most advanced and powerful nations only 300 years ago, and it will very likely restore that position soon. Cooperation between the US and China does not mean China being brought into the Western system with Western rules. It will only inflame more hatred if another world power becomes a blind supporter of Israel. Integration should be the result of an exchange of compromises that takes into account the needs and feelings of the weaker nations.

China is a raising power and she will continue to rise. it is funny when you hear americans saying that the Chinese need to explain why they are buildiing thier army, send rocket in the moon and so on and so forth. the truth is the Chinese don't have to explain anything to anybody. assume that the Chinese and every country in the world adopt the philosophy of Chinese and so and so interest like we like to say in America (merican interest) what will happen to the world. we need to respect China and be thieir friends, China is a pround nation, look at the Great Wall" , we need them and they need us, plain and simple.

On the contrary, China as the world's indisputable leader is demanding the rest of the world to go into the Chinese fold and be controlled by China. All of you should know that China is mandated by God/Devil/Heaven/Environment to be the world's top and only leader. All opposing countries and people will be made suffer harishly and then destroyed immediately. Any challenge to Myself and China will be futile and will definitely meet retaliation.

"Political and economic freedoms are more likely to grow from China's evolution than from American hectoring." One has to wonder why in the world we couldn't have understood this same concept regarding Cuba oh, so many, many years ago. What a waste of time and resources and relationships.
