If ever there was a country in the Middle East that we should have befriended it would be Iran. That a few radical students were able to topple the Shah, and that the country is currently run be a madman, and that the ultimate decisions made for the entire country rest in the head cleric of the country is not the direct fault of the people of Iran. Israel is and has always been the big bully in the region with the United States governments approval and generous military support. If the US really wants to counter the threat of a nuclear Iran, then they should help Iran by improving their oil-producing infrastructure. That would be a whole lot cheaper than trying to fight faceless terrorists all over the world. Let's face it, IF Iran were to develop and accurately fire a nuclear weapon it would be a major disaster. But then Iran would be wiped off the map from many sources. These are not stupid people; they're traders and barterers constantly looking for ways to improve their end of the deal. So stop taking every little thing that they say literally. In the meantime Israel would be wise to immediately stop its aggression against the Palestinians, open the floodgates of relief (and not just temporarily), and try to play nice with its neighbors.
