If ever there was a country in the Middle East that we should have befriended it would be Iran. That a few radical students were able to topple the Shah, and that the country is currently run be a madman, and that the ultimate decisions made for the entire country rest in the head cleric of the country is not the direct fault of the people of Iran. Israel is and has always been the big bully in the region with the United States governments approval and generous military support. If the US really wants to counter the threat of a nuclear Iran, then they should help Iran by improving their oil-producing infrastructure. That would be a whole lot cheaper than trying to fight faceless terrorists all over the world. Let's face it, IF Iran were to develop and accurately fire a nuclear weapon it would be a major disaster. But then Iran would be wiped off the map from many sources. These are not stupid people; they're traders and barterers constantly looking for ways to improve their end of the deal. So stop taking every little thing that they say literally. In the meantime Israel would be wise to immediately stop its aggression against the Palestinians, open the floodgates of relief (and not just temporarily), and try to play nice with its neighbors.

We here in America should do the same and open our flood gates to our neighbors!!! OOPS, that is already happening with Mexico and NOBODY is happy about it!!!

The true citizens of the Arab nations would love nothing better than to have all these terrorist organizations obliterated or removed from their countries so that they can live in peace. Hamas & Hezbulah intentionally aim for pre schools & schools, hospitals & shopping centers as well as synagogues. Israel on the other hand is aiming for the terrorists who are hiding amongst the citizens using them as shields!!!!!

Refresh my memory. Did I miss something? When was the last time Iran went on a murdering rampage against its immediatre neighbors? When was the last time Iran used the deadliest, the most sophisticated weapons that an evil genius can
devise to destroy the infra-structure of a neighboring country? When was the last time Iran edged on its powerful
sponsor to wage a war of choice against a country that it considered threatening? When was the last time Iran rained
hell-fires and clusters on its virtually defenseless neighbors? When was the last time Iran's fifth columnists tried to
stir up trouble between the Shia and Sunni population of any of its neighbors? Perhaps Mr. Ambassador ought
to remember the fable about the boy who cried wolf? As for the so called fears of the Arab nations, since when has
Israel become a spokesperson for the gulf nations? Let them speak for themselves.

AWAZ - you should know about all the patience Arab terrorists have and how long they can hold out before striking! The true citizens of the Arab nations would love nothing better than to have all these terrorist oganizations obliterated or removed from their countries so that they can live in peace. Hamas & Hezbulah intentionally aim for pre schools & schools, hospitals & shopping centers as well as synagogues. The only way to establish a lasting peace is through relentless dialogue. I know this does not satiate the tastes of those on any side who believe killing is the only answer but there has been enough killing and it has only made things worse. Relentless dialogue, the kind that might begin in anger and yelling but where the parties come back to the table is what is necessary to slowly build bonds of trust and mutual understanding and it takes the most courage.

To address warmongers Shakespeare had this to say:

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fevor, for patriotism is indeed a double edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war reach a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry, rather the citizenry, infused with jean and blinded by patriotism will offer up all their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I???ve done and I am Caesar!??? ??? Julius Caesar.

bighappy you forgot to mention use of chemical weapons by Iran and their interesting tactic of sending young volunteers to race ahead of the tanks into the minefields to blow themselves up so the heavy equipment could push through.

Israel fear from Iran is lessen by fighting Hamas.

It is perhaps instructive to examine what occured after the mumbai massacre by muslim fedayeen that evidence suggests originated in Indias neighbour pakistan.Over a hundred people calmly murdered in cold blood and India is unable to retaliate or indeed get any form of concrete resolution simply because of the deterent power of the 'Islamic Bomb"Indis may resort to sabre rattling but in the end they can do nothing, this is the fate that awaits not only Israel but any nation that attempts to support them in the future. As one analysis said, one nuclear bomb would effectively destroy or incapacitate most of israels cities and defensive capabilities and make it unable to withstand a ground and air assault from neighbouring countries.in contrast Israel could lauch a dozen nuclear weapons and still not destroy the Arab world. In the face of this what kind of future will tiny Israel really have if it is unable to respond to attacks from multiple quarters. It will be death from a million cuts.

Don't forget, Israel has hundreds, not dosens nukes, and in case of WMD attack on Israel it will be able and not hesitate to use them all. Sassam new that Israel would immediately obliterate Baghdad in response to chemical attack, and restricted himself, he was very smart. If Arabs and Iranians want to cease to exist - go forward with your sick tactics.

Iran has invaded no other country, while Israel commits mass murder against all its neighbours. Israel is the terrorist state. USA and Israel simply want to steal Iran's oil. Why shouldn't Iran develop nuclear power? Oil won't last for ever. There is no evidence of Iranian violence against neighbours, compared to Israeli and USA attacks against Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine.

    • Posted By: bighappy @ 01/03/2009 6:21:44 PM

"Iran has invaded no other country...": ReallY? They had territorial dispute with Iraq even before the war, and tried to invade Iraq in the second part of the war. And they tried to invade other countries several time for last couple hundred years, it was not their "fault" that Russia and Britain were stronger.

Israel's problem is not Iran, but Israel. Israel destroys any thing near it. Their will come a day when the U.S. cannot help Israel any more. They have surrounded themselves by their enemies, by choice. Every nation near Israel needs nukes to defend themselves from Israel.

Not everything, land is much better under Israel watch. As for wild predators around - yes, they are no so green, but don't worry, those animals are not so endangered yet.

So it is just fine for Isreal to have MANY nuclear weapons (for protection, of course) but really scary for Iran to have 1? That is not logical. And for the person who supposed most of the Iraqis are "pro-Isreal"; please consider how many of those Iraqi's will remain 'pro-Isreal' after hundreds of civilians have been killed. And this is not the first time.

    • Posted By: bighappy @ 01/03/2009 6:09:06 PM

From Iran point of view, Israelis are fools. how come - to have nukes and not to use them? May be it is time, at first somewhere in Oranian desert?

Israel's fear of Iran is going to force it to take a fatally wrong decision. That precisely will be the moment when its very existence on the world map will be jeopardized and the only Zionist/terrorist state will meet its logical end.

    • Posted By: bighappy @ 01/03/2009 6:06:16 PM

By "fatally wrong decision" you mean to nuke Iran?

  • Posted By: Uzziah @ 01/03/2009 1:49:08 PM

The issue in the Middle East is not about who has or may have nukes. And as one person posted, blowing each other up will not end the religious war. To get under the skin of the problem you have to go back to its inception. that goes back thousands of years ago. This battle that rages there is one that personifies the basic problem within the human spirit: We want to be in control. That control is driven by an ideology. The ideology is rooted in either good or evil. These two are the main culprits in our world. It will never cease until one dominates the other. Even if the Arab world and Israel ceased to exit, don't think for one moment that the conflict wouldn't raise its ugly head somewhere else between nations.

Personally, I blame the moderate Islamic society with not stepping up and stopping this senseless "turn the other cheek" approach to terrorism and extremism. It is their neighbors, brothers, sisters, and culture that are causing this unrest. I cannot honestly believe that I see no wrong in Israel bombing civilian targets... The civilians themselves need to root out this Hamas/Hezbollah/Al-Qaida/etc influence in thier society. If they didn't let the extremists use them as pawns, they wouldn't need to suffer to such a degree. I would never let anyone hide in my house or use my mosque as a storage cache for weapons to begin with!! This silly Islamic faith that martyrs somehow end up in heaven is rediculous. Islam is stupid; Christianity is stupid. If the world would get their heads out of their ass and stop being so scared of what happens to them when they die, we wouldn't have this problem to begin with. One final note, we can be certain that this situation is going to continue to escalate and worsen - the Muslim world has ZERO respect for women... our Presidents will have to understand that neither Condi Rice nor H.Clinton will ever have any persuasion in this region and no one over there will EVER listen to them...period. Iran will become nuclear soon - could have been prevented if George W had surrounded himself with people who were intelligent from the beginning. Unfortunate situation over there; very unfortunate.

Major governments disregarded the warnings given by Hitler and NAZI Germany as well, considering it mere blustering-that no sane leader or people could possibly do what they were proposing.

All the free peoples of the world should be very worried about what is happenning in Iran. Just because one US government manipulated fears of WMDs in Iraq as a means to an end doesn't invalidate the need for concern in another far more potentially dangerous part of the world. The United States will not be the only country to suffer at the hands of a nuclear armed Iran.

Since the ancient empire of Persia has shrinked to become the small country of Iran, it is time that it can defend itself from potential future aggressors by completing a nuclear program.
After all why is it that Israel only can benefit from a nuclear weapon ?
The Middle East will become much more balanced with a duopoly in nuclear defence.

  • Posted By: Veggie2 @ 01/03/2009 1:27:28 PM

Not a day should pass in which progress towards disarming Iran from ANY weapon is not considered and worked towards.
The leadership of Iran is the same as practiced on the ground by Cheezballa and Fucmas in Lebanon and Gaza respectively.
Like stray rabid dogs, the solution is one...

The earth is tiny planet in a large universe. After Iran and its Islamic friends wipe out human civilization, perhaps a new life will emerge, or perhaps all life on earth will come to an end.
In any event, unless we do something soon as a global community to try to save ourselves from the confused thinking of Islamic fundamentalism, we certainly seem doomed. It won't be long before cities start to be annihilated with atomic explosions and civilization comes to a tragic end.
