Another article in the "Blame the USA for everything" library. When are we going to realize that America 1. does not have the power to fix everything in the world, 2.even if it did, it doesn't know the solutions anyway, 3. didn't create the middle eastl, and, 4, should disengage from the world that just wants to blame us while taking as much as possible from us, deport the UN, and focus on taking care of our own. We have enough to focus on in this country without posturing any authority or solution to other countries.

I am really a little taken aback at the somewhat ungrammatical comments of both Aardwofl and azougah. I do not see any clear winners in the current conflict. When war breaks out, everyone loses. I only wish that everyone heeded my advice.

azougagh, doesnt take a college degree to realize you cant win a war with sticks and stones against tanks.

  • Posted By: azougagh @ 01/09/2009 3:36:57 PM

To Arrdwolf. Obviously you do not know what you are talkig about. Bette to not write stupid ideas

The palestinians would have alot fewer casualties if they would be smart enough not to try fighting a military power (who no longer concerns themselves that teh filthy cowards are hiding behind their own women and children) with primative weapons. The idiots are beaten, just too stupid to recognize it and negotiate for what they want.

There is only one way the United States can possibly mediate an enduring Middle East peace, and broker a settlement of the protracted, horrific Israeli-Palestinian 60-year conflict: formulate, drive and secure broad-based international support for a GENUINELY equitable solution requiring meaningful (and yes painful) compromises from both sides. The United States has to cesae claiming to be even-handed, and actually start acting even-handedly. If it cannot or will not, it should forfeit its role as lead mediator. The definition of stupidity is to make the same mistakes over and over (involving the same unsuccessful advisors and negotiators pursuing the same failed strategies and tactics), and expect a desirable outcome the next time. President-elect Obama, the time is now to change course. Change that we can believe in. The whole world will be watching. You will be judged not on what you say, however eloquently, but what you actually do and accomplish!

"When the bombs began falling" This sentence was thrown out with the implication that this was done by Israel. Does no one care about the literally thousands of rockets launched into Isreal for years now? How would you feel if you knew that the air raid sirens could go off at anytime. I'd want my government to bomb the perpatrators back to the stone age as well.

    Israeli lie
Israel is lying to the whole world and the war crimes committed against children and women, the latest massacre Fakhurah
, And other atrocities committed against civilians in the Gaza Strip under the name of fighting terrorism
This terrorism that Israel is terrorism
Fighting and shelling by tanks and aircraft and internationally proscribed weapons
All this in front of civilians and some of the men who defend their land, some poor shots in front of the Israeli war machine that kills without mercy and humanity and lie to the whole world and to prevent journalists from entering the Gaza Strip so as not to be revealed? Crimes against civilians
Wake O people of the world

When I read or hear Chomsky, I am so confused as a result of his explanations of what really went on and the differences from that and what every other media source saw, that it seems like time to just throw in the towel and say heck with it, wasn't there something else I was going to direct my attention to.....? How can this crap be worth following or considering, if we're all being that mislead?

  • Posted By: FlacoJetson @ 01/07/2009 5:07:33 PM

you should read chomskys book about this, then you will see that all the stuff we get served in media like this is beside the point. israel and the U.S. never wanted peace in the middle east, they want control over the region.

    • Posted By: Wahhabi @ 01/07/2009 5:46:39 PM

      Why?

Chomsky is a linguistics expert & he originated transformational grammar (aka : generative grammar).

Chomsky is not a religious or foreign affairs expert. I will admit he thinks he is an expert in both & much more.

There are enough of Chomsky's views represented here, both in the comments & the article itself.

Chomsky is a hard-left socialist, with a serious opposition to anything western or democratic.

I have read some of his works in this area and he sounds like the spokesman for Hamas & like minded groups.

Aaron David Miller states that after working for 25 years with 6 secretaries of states he can't recall one meeting where there was any serious discussion of the detrimental effects of Jewish settlement activity on the peace process. The political fact of life in Israel today is that the only real debate taking place among Israelis Jews is not what we are told in the US media which has been the tired 40 year old shop worn two-state solution but between the hardliners represented by Likud who believe that the Palestinians must be kept impoverished lest they prosper and want equal rights, and the Israeli left who believes that they must be treated humanely but as guests in Greater Israel with no hope of either a separate state or any citizenship..If the world community doubts that Israel even intends to give equal rights to any Palestinians whether citizens inside of Israel proper or in the territories one needs only to listen to the fateful words of Tzipni Livni the leading candidate of the supposed 'moderate wing' Kadima party who stated recently that the future of Palestinian Citizens is not with Israel!

The Jews receive one-fifth of the land in the area known as Palestine and the Arabs receive the other four-fifths.

The Islamic Arabs don't like it & the next day a half-dozen Islamic nations attack Israel. When the war is over, Israel has a bit more land. That war was known as the War of Independence or the War of 1948. In 1956, the process repeats itself, including the part about the Jews winning some more land. History shows that when a nation loses a war, they lose land. I don't know why followers of the Prophet should be any exception. Do you?

In 1967, the Islamic types are at it again, this time it is called the 6 Day. Yep, that's right. It only took 6 days for the Jews to do some serious butt kicking. Now the Jews have all of Jerusalem, the West Bank, & Gaza. When the Jews show up in East Jerusalem they were shocked. After 20 years of Jordanian (the Islamic brothers of the Paleos) control, the streets are unpaved, there is no garbage collection, there is no clean drinking water; no sewers (whichc means toilets), all of which the Jews corrected in short order.

The PLO or Palestine Liberation Organization was formed in 1964, 4 years before the Jews took Gaza & the West Bank. What were they going to liberate? The Soviet Union which had bankrolled those losers were furious. Billions of dollars in tanks, fighter jets, bombers, training, & much more was nothing more than burning rubble in the desert. This was step one in the financial collapse of the USSR. They re-arm the losers at a tremendous expense.

France had armed the Israelis until this time then the French refused. BTW. In 1956, France, Britian, & Israel were about to seize control of the Suez Canal from the Egyptians. President Eisenhower said, "Don't even think about it and they stood down". Islamic gratiutude forbids giving thanks to an infidel. Ike should have been impeached for that one. After the 6-Day butt kick, now the US gets involved & starts arming the Israelis.

Then there was another Islamic butt kicking in the 1973 War or Yom Kippur War. More Commie money flushed down the toilet. That's wrong, Islamites really don't believe in toilets; Mohammad never used one.

Israel had seized the Sinai Peninsula in 1967. Egypt made peace with Israel & Israel gave back the Egyptian peninsula. Land for Peace. Of course that move got President Sadat assassinated by Islamic terrs. The Koran forbids peace with the Infidel.

This conflict is fueled by Israelis. Someone needs to put a stop on Israel's crual practices in Gaza.

    • Posted By: Wahhabi @ 01/07/2009 4:16:46 PM

The fact that Jews live & breath fuels the conflict. But since Islam is at war with every other religious group in the world, I guess the breathing & living by the others is also a problem for Islam.

It amaze me to see how a group like Hamas can be the key for Israel survival. Without Hamas or any other groups rejecting israel right to exist Israel in reality wouldn't exist. It sad but also true that Israel survival depends on some terror organization.

Use of American weapons against Gaza violates the US Arms Export Control and Foreign Assistance Acts, the docile US Congress remains mute. And how will Obama change the image of US in Middle East or any part of world when killing of kids and women are going on in name of defending Israel.

  • Posted By: Jim1348 @ 01/05/2009 11:26:44 PM

We may be able to open a few doors, but only the Arabs and Israelis can make peace. The people who write books on geopolitical strategy for a living think we should be heavily involved. I like the phone number approach myself.

Edward Djerejian also has an excellent Mideast diplomatic memoir, recently published; surprised the reporter ignored it.

I believe that the only solution is change in policies of US. The whole world is suffering economic and other consequences of US policies. We should change our basic policy of supporting wars all over the world. We can reestablish our strategy and become the good superpower of the world again with support of nations all over this world.

I wonder how many of our brother american citizens know the history of the birth of Israel?. Does anyone think, that a war, started by the setttlement of the Israelis in Palestine, which displaced so many families and started this conflict that by now has caused so many fatalities and hatred can be solved?
In the eyes of the Arab world Israel is a country of settlers that should be kinder to the people they displaced with the help of western allies.
No, I am not a person in favor of the violence from either side, yes I am AGAINST any form of terrorism and any form of fanatics that use religion as the means to justify their primeval responses to a situation that has arrived to such incomprehensible stage. None the less there is Russia taking over a portion of Georgia with the excuse of defending their Russian settlers and now threatening Ukraine with the excuse of Gas royalties, there are the African dictators murdering and maiming their fellow human beings in the name of unity?. Lets face it, we have achieved as humans tremendous advances in Technology but as beings with advanced brains we remain a poor example of either evoution or creationism.

I would like to point out a very inportant aspect of oil/gas prices. When gas prices started rising a while ago, the big oilman (BUSH) said " the accelerated economic growth in India and China has tremendously increased the demand of oil leading to rising gas prices and prices kept rising to an unbelievabe level to the point that an average Americans was facing tough decision to whether put food on the table or fill his gas tank. . Bush had no idea that new whitehouse occupant will not be a republican and had an impression that he and his puppet Dick Chenney will continue manipulating gas prices by causing artificial high demand and will continue fleesing Americans and the world and will collect Billions of Dollars in profit. But an unexpected happened and even before the signs of defeat became clear gas prices started falling, untill it came down to $34/b.
Now the question arises that what happened in India and China, did everything stopped abruptly or all indians and Chines have died and nobody is using gas anymore. Or they have discovered an ocean of oil that they don't need to import oil anymore.
This isn't the case. It was all manipulating and price rigging by big oil men. And interestingly during these price hikes, Petrochemical industries earned record profit, was it a really demand and supply issue or something else.
Since Bush, Chenney caused so much damage to America that it may decades for economic recovery and on International credibility and influence may never be regained, Its all due to arogance, and mean and selfish ego by extremist Bush that led to this all, so why not prosecute all these FANATICS, responsible for this all?
