Newsweek's editorial policy lacks any shred of common sense......which is why I quit taking the magazine after nearly 20 years of subscribing.

    To Newsweek;

The Holy Bible says whoever blesses Israel will be blessed and whoever curses Israel will be cursed. I now call down on your heads, Newsweek, all the curses God has promised.

Just because Israel is our #1 ally in the Middle East, it doesn't mean that they have got to obey the U.S. or for that matter ANY other country. And Just because they don't "obey" it doesn't mean that they our our enemy. They are a country, and they elect the people that run it. THey are a DEMOCRACY and who do we think we are trying to tell them what is best for their country.

Hmmmm. I often wonder why the Palestinian's have been kicked out of every country that they have took up residence in, including Egypt. Anyone know why?

Just came across this peace persons living comfortably in the US and I am absolutely shocked by the blindness. Please look at the majority of Palestinian's bottom line which is Kill every Jew wherever he is. Did you ever see their school books? What they preach in mosques, what they teach their children at home and at school. Did you ever consider what they want or just what you want? I am a peace loving person too but when someone comes to kill my children I will do whatever I can to protect them. I hope you will do the same. Did you know that a Palestinian mother is proud if her son or daughter killed Jews and became a mortar. Have you ever thought about the possibility that some group of people simply will not rest until they ether convert to Islam or kill all the rest of us as a way of life? Why look at the middle east? look at what they did to the rest of the world for generation.

    Peaceperson, Pacific Palisades, ca
It's time to pull up Israel short. The Israel Lobby (AIPAC) needs to be declared a foreign lobby and treated as such - fat chance! The shear political power of the Lobby can be seen by attendance of its annual convention, attendance of legislators and officials is second only to the presidents State of the Union speech. Jews in America need to rethink their allegiance - what's good for America or what's good for Israel, and stop trying to combine the two.

Palistinians shouldhave the right of return and have full citizenship rights. There needs to be a one state solution. Israel needs to rid herself of nuclear weapons in return for UN protection. If Arabs and Jews lived together, there would less fear for military action by neighbors. Perhaps too much water has gone under the bridge, but we can hope.

It's interesting the line anti-article commentators have made - so obvious that the Lobby organization is at work.

We can't settle anything in the middle east until Washington has the guts to declear the Israel lobby a foreign lobby and has it register as such. It is a well-known fact that nne can't be elected dog catcher in this coiuntry without the blessing of the Lobby or it'smain asset, AIPAC. Witness the recent withdrawal of Chas freeman from consideration as Obama's head of the National Secxurity Council. The Lobby headed by AIPAC used its muscle to torpedo that
nomination because Freeman advocated a balanced policy in the middle east. No we don't run every proposal for the middle east by Israel. We run it by the Lobby, who takes direction from Israel, then we run it by Israel, then it gets proposed as U.S. policy. That a joke. Obama selects Rahm Emanual as his Chief of Staff, a man who holds Israel citizenship and served in the Israli army during the first Gulf War. kThen "Dennis Ross, a ground-floor AIPAC organizer and still an adviser to be middle east adviser. KWow! what a great show of nonpartisanship. We need to cut Israel loose financially and militarily. No more aid unless the Palestinians are permitted to return to their lands as free citizens, r3parations for loss, and no nuclear weapons with which to threaten the rest of the middle east. The UN could assure Israel of protection in exchange for giving up nuclear weapons as well as having the restof the middle east give up its efforts to produce like weaponsl It's way past time to put our foot down with Israel, and if the so-called American citizens who value Israel over America, perhaps they shojld vote with their feet. In a word, I'm tiref of the Lobby controling our mid east policy causing nothing butdifficulty and danger (9/11?)-Let's get out of the middle-east and not let onemore soldier die for Israeli interests If they want to stir up trouble, lwt them take responsibility for it.

With all due respect to the persecution that jews have suffered it is long past time to get over it! Israel exists only at the behest of foreign aid. Without it the citizens of Israel would be as poor as its neighbors. Without even an uneasy peace in the Middle East the rest of the world will be blighted with the guilt.the jews suffer because of ancient history. Many people have suffered but without a look at the future all residents of the mideast will suffer the transgressions of the past. War, murder, waste, oil, thugs and religious ignorance are the culprits and nobody is immune from the side effects thereof. GET TO WORK ON PEACE, GIVE UP ON WHAT DOESN'T WORK! !

What could have been done 60 years ago by victorious Israelis will now be nearly impossible to perform, which is doing right by those displaced Muslims who made up the nucleus of today's Palestinians. Justice for those was delayed, denied and forbidden by greedy Israelis who lived dispersed around Europe for centuries and who, when they were in their own State, became as unjust as their former persecutors. The USA ought to cut off aid until Israel remedies restitution or return to Palestinians.

    Well-written and stated.
Israel is so very clear in stating her fear of radical Hamas - that denies the existence of Israel, but the world should recognize the radicals within both the Palestinian and Israeli governments. Israel has its own radicals that claim all the land as their God-given right - doesn't this attitude create similar fears within the hearts of the Palestinians? --- and some of these radical groups are in control of the Israeli government -- shouldn't she be required to get rid of her own radicals as she insists the Palestinians sDo?

PS: Following just confimed by recent Gaza fact-finding trip???a testimonial to American complicity with a rogue state.

Open letter to the next President of the United States: subject Gaza and beyond
    Paris, Dec 29, 2008

    Sir:

I am addressing you in regards to the gravely exacerbated Middle East conflict as one of many
Americans who chose you as best representing the leadership virtues needed to change the course of our country. I am writing as an American by choice and a retired United States Army officer, Vietnam generation, whose European family was decimated resisting Nazi occupation???and labeled ???terrorists??? by the Occupant and its collaborating local minions.

Having for many years of my career witnessed the results of a bipartisan U.S. Middle East foreign policy increasingly detrimental to our security and image at home and abroad, I dared hope, by giving you my vote, that you would be the first American leader to change our approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and using our full power to create a just and lasting solution for all

A sixty year history has shown that Israel, as constituted, could not provide such governance, and has become a major liability to the security and image of the United States--and the Jewish community and that the solution lies in a multiethnic state encompassing the antagonists and sub-regional resources under a governance insuring equal rights and opportunities.

No American political leader to date has had the courage to state that we supports a rogue Zionist regime established by ethnic cleansing, expanded by annexation through military aggression, and sustained by state terrorism against millions.
American leadership must Israel as just a foreign country.

What we Americans do were we occupied and terrorized for 60 years?

Today???s situation in Gaza requires more than ever a United States-sponsored UN resolution calling for a long-term Chapters VII-VIII peacemaking intervention akin to that in former Yugoslavia, mandated to create and mentor long-term a multiethnic state out of Israel and Palestine, supported by a regional Marshall-type plan. Regional water resources alone require a unified regional management and motivated the numerous Israeli invasions of Lebanon of the last 30 years.

Short of such UN intervention, injecting sufficient military parity in the equation to drive Israel to real negotiations???by giving the Palestinian Resistance the same means to the US gave the Afghans to fight the Soviets--i.e. portable anti-armor and anti-aircraft missiles.

Lastly, I challenge my fellow Americans linked with Israel, or any other nation detrimental to the United States, to make the clear choice I once prepared to make were France and the US be in conflict: Fight the French, as did Japanese-Americans of the WWII 442d Regimental Combat Team, or resign my U.S. Army commission and U.S. citizenship, leave the US, and never return.
