How do you "negotiate" with people who dont recognize your right to exist? Nor do they WANT to recognize your right to exist. They are fueled by pure hatred. And LONG before Israel moved back home. Forget being P.C. and lets state the OBVIOUS! Theyre dealing with TERRORISTS! Gazans are dealing with their own decision.Despite Israels faults its still more diplomatic in dealing with this problem then the US, UK or EU would.

Mr Miller you are an amasing man, you appear to be intelligent, have a comprehensive knowledge of the situation.
Please tell me, what, should the United Staes do, in the event, that Isreal moves back from all of the annexed land and the Arabs continue to assault them?
I can, only, hope, that, you have an opinion, on that, too.
Unlike our own government who, has come to consider the lives of their citizens, expendable, in their quest, to be the "guys wearing the white hats" the Israeli's are unconcerned about the "white hat:", if you attack their citizens, they retaliate.
Much talk, about the nuclear capabilities of the Iran, not to worry, Iran, has absolutely, no doubt about what, will happen to Iran, should they use Nuclear weapons, againts Israel.. There will be a vast radioactive hole, where Iran, was.
Iran has, no doubt, at all, about that.
I would suggest, respectfully, that your vast capabilities, would be more gainfully, empoyed as a lobbyist, for the Arab countries.

It's about time. Two wrongs have and never will make one right. In this case when "our national security" is at large it's no joke.

Another handwringing analysis by another self hating Jew. look around, Miller; there is less criticism of Israel in this conflict than ever before, and that is because slowly but surely the world is beginning to realize who the culprits are. Do I care overly about how much the 1.5 million Gazans are suffering? No,because they voted in a known terrorist organization, and that was their chocie. These are the consequences that go with that choice. Now piss off.

It all comes down to freaking religion in the end. "You don't believe what I believe so your scum." is the attitude behind all of this. This wont be fixed with any borders or cease fire agreements. Until the religious leaders can stop religious persecution, there is almost no way of protecting Israel short of Massive troop involvement. And we saw how well that works in Iraq...

epryor : Your facts are in error. Israel never claimed tha Hamas was "holed up" in the school. In fact the military reported gunfire from the biuldings proximity.

Perhaps your commentary woud be better served towards Hamas inviting them to avoid areas of innocence ( Schools. Hospitals, Mosques, etc) this way they could show respect for their countrymens lives and maintain dignity in their quest for change.

This is a military action agaianst terrorism which has been repearedly waged against a nation ogf peace loving people. Just like most Palestunians. The real tragedy here is the loss of life due to the actions of radical extremists who intimidate not only their enemies, but also their own people.

Palestinians were part of the Nazi Axis of evil with their Grand Mufti's support of Hitler during WW2. This was and is a people hellbent on the destruction of Jews, nothing has changed . As a spoil of WW2 a tiny sliver of land- compared to biblical boundaries- was granted the Jew as a homeland. No Arab nation would take the Palestinians into their nation, this was the failure of the West and the Arabs. Now is the time for the international community to revisit that decision and move them out of the region. For the Palestinians sake, give them a place to heal. A two state solution will never work, as long as they think they have claims in that region!

You are criminally foolish and a liar. The Zionist invasion of Palestine had stared decades before anyone had ever heard of the Nazis, you cannot blame the Palestinians retroactively for defending themselves in light of a crime of which the jews were a vicitm a thousand miles away 40 years later. Yes one Palestinian, the Mufti, decided at the last minute that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and unfortunately for the Arabs sought help from the Germans. But surely your aware that the much largely Zionist factions - Jabontinsky and the Stern Gang and the Irgun - also decided that the enemy of th British was also their friend and sought an alliance with Hitler. They went to him saying: "you want Europe empty of Jews, so do we, let's cooperate!". Both sides sought help wherever they could. This does not change the fact that the Zionists were without ambiguity the aggressors.

A liar and foolish? Anyone that looks at the pedophile Muhammed would see he met that standard. He married Aisha his sixth wife at her ripe old age of 6 and consummated with her at 9. he's the liar and foolish one.

    treat palestineans as human beings??????????????

they do! they have hospitals for refugees and warn all Gaza citizens of conflict.

you should be asking when was the last time a Palestinean helped an Israeli?

    • Posted By: epryor @ 01/08/2009 8:49:16 PM

Where should those Gazans go when they are warned? they are bordered by Egypt (border closed), Israel and the Mediterranian Sea. How kind of them.

      • Posted By: PamplonaXIV1 @ 01/08/2009 8:52:41 PM

thats not Israel's problem, its theirs.

if they refuse to oust Hamas themselves, they have to live with the consequences. And Egypt's closed border shows how "supportive' they are

        • Posted By: epryor @ 01/08/2009 9:13:19 PM

My point is that it is not benevolent of Israel to warn someone of an impending attack when there is nowhere for those people to go. They may as well warn them of their eminent deaths.

UN: No Hamas Fighters in Bombed Gaza School
    By TIM MCGIRK

United Nations investigators say they have uncovered no evidence to support a claim by the Israeli military that Hamas fighters were holed up in a Gaza school, prompting a deadly attack by Israeli forces that killed 40 civilians, many of them children.

The Israel Defense Forces Spokesman's Office asserted that militants fired mortars from inside the school at troops involved in Israel's controversial incursion into the Gaza Strip in pursuit of Hamas fighters ??? a military operation that is drawing fierce international condemnation as civilian casualties mount. "The IDF returned fire," according to the spokesman's office. (See pictures of Israeli soldiers sweeping into Gaza.)

But after a preliminary investigation of the Jan. 6 attack at the Fakhura girl's elementary school, "we're 99.9% sure that no militants were at the school," says Chris Gunness, a spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). The agency questioned survivors, including UNRWA staff that run the school under U.N. auspices.

Before the school was hit by Israeli bombs, some 400 Palestinians fleeing shelling of the Jabalya refugee camp had taken shelter inside Fakhura, hoping that the U.N. flag would shield them from harm, according to survivors. Earlier, the U.N., which oversees relief efforts for more than 800,000 Palestinians in Gaza, had passed along the coordinates of all its schools and buildings to the Israeli military so that its humanitarian missions would be spared attack.

Some reports say that Israel struck the school with artillery shells, while others say with mortars. Thirty Palestinians were killed outright from the incoming fire, and 10 others died last night in Gaza's overburdened and badly provisioned hospitals, according to the U.N. More than 55 were injured. Israeli bombs also hit a second school on Tuesday, say Gaza residents, killing three civilians.

Some Jabalya refugees at the school said they saw a small group of militants firing mortars near the school and running away, the Associated Press reported. A Gaza resident contacted by TIME said there is a citrus grove not far from the school. "Most likely, the militants fired from there," said the resident, who requested anonymity.

But Israeli military officials insist that the mortars were fired from within the crowded schoolyard and that Hamas is using civilians as human shields. The IDF gave the names of two Hamas combatants it says were killed inside the school ??? Imad and Hassan Abu Askar ??? who allegedly fired the mortars. But the IDF did not explain how it was able to identify them among the many casualties. Troops did not visit the school after the attack, nor did the IDF have access to a casualty list from Gaza's hospitals. (See pictures of Israel's deadly assault on Gaza.)

Thank you Mr. Miller - This is the kind of argument we should be hearing from anyone who is seriously concerned about Mid-East peace - 60 years is a very long time for a people to continue to suffer while Israel enjoys peace, prosperity and security - America has never been a fair peace broker and over the years we have seen the results of that unfairness in the form of the struggles waged by Palestinians and their supporters for freedom and justice - In October, 1996 former Israeli Premier Shimon Peres had this to say "When you negptiate, don't win too much. What one considers a great win may eventually end up as a great deceit. So, don't win more than necessary or it will come back to undermine what is essential" - It is 12 years ago since these words of wisdom were spoken - I would like Barack Obama to hear these words of wisdom and ask Israel why it has continued to build settlements, make Palestinians suffer and undermine the peace process - America is not the only one to blame for this state of affairs, some of the Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia and Egypr, must share the blame for their complicity - I think Barack Obama may succeed where everyone else and all else has failed

    Get tough with Isreal?

Get serious. Habbas VIOLATED the cease fire aggreement.. Further, Israel warned Gaza about impending retaliation secondary to habbas violations of cease fire.

WORD OF NOTE TO MEDIA: Wake up and decline biased judgements.

firtsly there is no such thing as "Palastinians" - pick up a map, look for your self, where is palastine? secondly - when they march in protest wailing and screaming obsenities, some seem to be holding a baby, but infact iside the blanket is rubble and sticks- the arabs are masters at propaganda and those naive enough to believe this silly display and fall into the trap of anyone crying to the camera before researching is without right to comment

    • Posted By: OedipaMaas @ 01/08/2009 8:55:56 PM

How many "so called Palestinians" do you actually know.? Cause I only know about you from this posting, and I think you are a jerk.

  • Posted By: lyndia7 @ 01/08/2009 8:55:50 PM

to the question will there be peace in the middle east? yes there will be but I don't want to be around after it happens

  • Posted By: Stand-for-Truth @ 01/08/2009 8:52:39 PM

If you just want to think about it logically, how long would America put up with Mexico if they were sending missiles into civilian areas of California and Texas everyday? The US would act quickly and decisively to eliminate the problem. Moreover, Israel has put up with more attacks from Hamas than any other country would permit from an enemy.

The most invalid argument in this whole conflict is that peace could be attained by Israel and the Palestinians by giving them a Palestinian nation. When Israel was originally formed, this plan was offered and the Palestinians refused it, and Israel formed a nation. When the Israelis tried to establish peace by giving up the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, it did not bring peace. In fact, their enemies simply moved in closer and continued their attacks.

When you have an enemy that hates Israel and the Jewish people, they will not ever be able to make peace. Any other country in the world would take action to defend itself. When you have radical groups being funded by President Ahmadinejad of Iran who has on numerous occasions voiced his desire to obliterate Israel, a peaceable solution will not be attained.

Jews in israel have to treat the palestenians as human beeings .they need to give back their freedom ,dignity ,compensate for their loss with the occupation and establish their democratically elected government .most of the world except USA knows the problems in the middle east is to do with the israely attitude . GAZA is becoming a concentration camp .

As usual, apoligists for Arab barbarians ignore the goal of Mulsim groups (and nations) throughout the ME - that is, the DESTRUCITON of Israel.

It is about HATE - hatred enshrined in Islamic teaching - that ALL non-Muslims are inferior to Muslims. Thats it pure and simple. A religion diesigned for the sole purpose of excusing ANY acti of violence against anyone (including other Muslims, hey! their not as good a Muslim as me) and particularly the brutal subjugation of women.

Until civilized people in the West start realizing that Muslim barbarians don't think like us - they worship DEATH, not life, then we will continue to lose the war for the survival of civilization (that most people don't know we're even fighting)

The best part is, because the US is a Democracy; they'll never do anything about it - it takes too long. They'll whine and whine, send condelleza Rice over a few times to whine in person... Then Israel will finish rupturing Hamas and get justice
