Americans must face the fact the the US created a place name Israel on the land of the Palestinians; then they imported so call Jews from all over and in some instances even paid them to move on to this really stolen property, now they have a resistance in the south from Hamas and the from the north by Hizbollah. They days of colonization is over; see the US tried to do it with Iraq and it backfired big time. The only real solution to this issue is a one state with fair and free election that will allow everyone to vote for elected officials including Hamas and Fatah and they live hapiily ever after. No more divide and conquer fro untiy is strength and Obama proved that with the election of 2008. The US must let go of the Israeli carrot and accept the middle eastern for who they really are and not what the US wants them to be. The jews are in fact the minority in this land (the bloody land) like the anglo population is in the US.

Wasted money! Israel can help themselves. Its not our business to supply them anymore. For that matter, we are in 130 countries for what? We are overextended and cannot continue. We are not imperialist. We are a republic. Read the Constitution.

Obama doesn`t need to get tough on Isreal, he needs to stand behind them and press harder on the Hamas and Hesabella(Lebenon). The Isreali are fed up with how the rest of the Arab world feel about them and are trying to put an end to terrorism. They can`t help the others caught in the crossfire especially when those cowards use the innocent as shields. If they back off because of that they have accomplished nothing. The Hamas and other erratic arab groups need to be treated for what they are< CRIMINALS, and punished!!!!!!!!!. If you have a wheat field infested with weeds that have overthrown the crop, it`s better to burn the whole field so that the others fields don`t choke or become corrupt. With that said, we need to let Isreal continue until the corruption is distoryed completely. Then you will have peace!!!!!!

If Obama turns his back on Israel I could only hope that the Jewish voters in this country will come to their senses and join the conservative movement. In my opinion Israel has every right to defend itself against those whose only mission is the eradication of Jews.

Mr. Miller, here is a question for you: What would you do if you were in Israels situation where someone keeps on firing rockets to your territory killing the people despite of the negotiations for peace and each negotiations wouldn't your tolerance run out?

The Israel - arab issue is a sibling rivalry thousands of years old (daddy liked Isaac more than Ishmael). You're an idiot if you think Obama can change that. I remember a tine in the early 60's when the United States almost went to war because Cuba had installed Missles. What do you think the United States would do if someone actually fired a missle, or even a rocket, into florida day after day. Isreal should have a right to protect themselves just as we would do. The people in Gaza did nothing to stop this so now Isreal has to.

Look at it this way if Mexico was lobing mortars, rockets into Texas and California on a regular basis we would do what?? I assure you people would demand more than what Isreal gives the rag headed fanatics over there! Hallelujah!! Finally a sensible and unbiased article on the Israeli / Palestinian conflict. Having read some of the other responses however I'm astounded by such ignorant rantings --- I suggest these commentators digest a simple point. Hammas DO NOT equal Palestinians. The Palestinians are mothers and fathers just like the rest of us who want a peaceful homeland for their children that is not subject to expansionist excursions by Israel. There are a minority of extremests who terrorise the Israeli public yet all Palestinians are forced to endure an apatheid, and daily humiliation as they try to get on with daily life and are then somehow blamed when they have the 'audacity' to resist. It is convenient to dehumanise the Palestinians and to brush their terrible plight under the carpet as an inconvenient truth. The sooner the US get tough the sooner we can all enjoy a more peaceful world.

This comment is a reply to both postings from distantsmoke and kingt82. In a way you both brought up good points. However, I don't agree with the fact you said arab/muslims want to kill the jews. I am arab and muslim and I don't believe anyone has the right to denounce israel or any other country or entity. God giveth and God taketh. We need to understand that ALL religions teach peace but political agendas don't. At the end of the day both parties involved in a conflict lose, some more than others. There are victims either way you look at it. I have faith in our president elect to bring people together and find ways to reason with all parties that there should be a solution to the conflict. Till then please put the hatred, the anger, the despair, the pessimism aside and help spread the good when we can.
