I don't care whatever Isreal would do to protect its citizens, they should do it with every might that they have. If the tables are turned, the state of Isreal would be no more.Shame to those who wants to blackmail the state of Israel.

Hallelujah!! Finally a sensible and unbiased article on the Israeli / Palestinian conflict. Having read some of the other responses however I'm astounded by the ignorant rantings --- I suggest these commentators digest a simple point. Hammas DO NOT equal Palestinians. The Palestinians are mothers and fathers just like the rest of us who want a peaceful homeland for their children that is not subject to expansionist excursions by Israel. There are a minority of extremests who terrorise the Israeli public yet all Palestinians are forced to endure an apatheid, and daily humiliation as they try to get on with daily life and are then somehow blamed when they have the 'audacity' to resist. It is convenient to dehumanise the Palestinians and to brush their terrible plight under the carpet as an inconvenient truth. The sooner the US get tough the sooner we can all enjoy a more peaceful world.

I think most people are very stupid because they fail to understand the history before and ahead of us. Most of these people talking have not stayed around muslims and thus can say whatever they want but i for one, have live closer to them that i know them very well.
Isreal should crush them with every might they have,they should do whatever it takes to let them know that the state of Isreal is here to stay. Please, please and please know that if the table is turned, the state of Israel will be no more. God Bless the state of Isreal and God Bless those that protects it.

Mr. Miller, I guess you didn't you watch Israel's Ambassador speech at George Washington's University. There he explained the humanitarian efforts Israel is undertaking, and also how the media has it's numbers wrong with regards to casualties.

Aaron Miller, you need to look at a much broader picture! You are basically saying that the US should bail out on Israel just so the rest of the world won't think so negatively of us. Well, as an American, I couldn't care less what the rest of the world thinks about the US, whether we have a healthy diplomatic relationship with Israel or not. They're always looking for reasons to hate the US and Israel is but only one of them. And thanks to Israel' superior intelligence-gathering, we have a leg up on terrorism we wouldn't otherwise have.

Hope you're thinking about that before you bow to international pressure and write another article like this!

I believe that if Hamas uses it's own people for cover and then blame Israel for killing civilians. There will be no peace and Obama won't have dookie to say about it.

it seems to me that during the 60 or so years that israel has been in existance that the arab nations have been trying to destory it. every time there's a peace agreement or a cease fire agreement, the plo or hamas or some other arab group violates it. after that happens all we hear is how many palistinians have been hurt or killed we never hear how many israelis were hurt or killed it the rocket attacks. it's like the news media want us to think that the hamas rocket just fly into the empty desert and do no harm at all. if the palistinians really want the gaza striop and peace let them show it by policing their own terrorist groups who break the peace and instigate israeli counter attacks.

i know for myself if rockets were coming into the US from one of our neighbors, i would expect our military to put a stop to it asap. those who wish to destory israel need to come to realize israel's there and it will stay, get over it.

From the comments posted thus far, the dominant concern expressed is the disproportinate loss of life and property. The solution is simple ... Hamas needs to stop launching indescriminate rocket and mortar launchings into Israel, thinking the Israeli government won't at some point say ... "Enough is enough" and strike back. The glitch in the equation is that Hamas attempts to conceal their "NO-tech" rockets and mortars in densely populated positions and launched by "Barney One Bullet" terrorists ... inaccurately hitting an indescriminate target. The Israeli response ... Take out the launch, storage and smuggling sites within the multiple intentional human shields ... causing overwhelming, intended and collateral damage and death. The hue and cry then holds the Israeli government liable for the disproportinate loss on the basis of incompetence and/or inadequacies ... another "Barney One Bullet" philosophy. The Jewish community needs to wake up, pull your heads out of the sand ... smell the coffee and see the Liberals for what they are, using "Situational Justification" for their own hidden agendas.

Good to see that first time someone in the mainstream media speaks truthfully about Israel and USA'a unfair support to the most horrific crimes that the Israeli's have been committing against their neighbors. Thank you and God bless!

I understand better after with Miller's article why things have gone so wrong while he served as advisor to six secretaries of state. Giving into terrorist can't help but boost their standing and make them that much more intransigent. Did he also advise the US to negotiate with Al Qaeda and the Taliban? There would already be a Palestinian state in Gaza and the West Bank if Arafat and Hamas laid down their suicide vests and missles and actually and publicly accepted the fact that Israel is here to stay as a democratic Jewish state. The same thing is true today, and Israel can't be expected to concede anything until that occurs.

Unfortunately, what people fail to grasp(including the author of this segment), is that the Palestinian people embrace Hamas and their terror acts. The only reason Israel is bombing civilian territory is because Hamas is hiding and shooting rockets from within this territory. Hamas don't even care about their own muslim brothers and sisters. They will sacrifice their children in the name of terror. America's problem is that if we let them have their way, we will be next in line for those terrorist groups.
