i don't belive what i read everyday . it seems that it's ok to bomb israel whenever they please. but once israel strikes back to defend itself they condemd for they action. lets start by reporting honestly to the people why israel is doing what is is.and don't defend the palestinians so much because they are behind hamas 100%percent. may g-d bless you if you begin to report the truth...

Amazing article, I fully agree that america ought to more effectively portray itself as a mediator in the peace process, which includes dealing with both sides equally. Wrong has inevitably been done by both parties, in an attempt to 'get back' at the opposition, but hopefully beginning january 20th we and our world views can start fresh.

Is this guy kidding? Everytime Israel tries to make peace with the Palestinians they send their young people with explosives strapped to their bodies into restraurants, bus stops adn supermarkets. Doesn't he read the news? When the British moved out they set aside Jordan for the Arabs living in Palestine and extablished the Jordanian royal family. So if Jordan is so concerned with the Palestinians why doesn't she open her gates to them. Why are they still refugees after 60 years? Because that's the best way to keep the illiterate masses who live in Gaza filled with enough hatred to massacre schoolchildren! To watch people celebrate the death of their children when they've blown themselves up is an abomination

Israel sometimes goes too far and make them self look like the bad guy when the bad guys are the mass murdering macho muslim men. Israel has to keep a balance.

I think this article was fair in examining the issues of the Middle East. It was good to see an article from someone who has actually been an advisor for both sides of the major political parties. I think he makes valid points that are worth consideration for true peace. True peace does not come from annihilation of others we do not agree with. True peace comes from people acknowledging that they may not agree, but are willing to compromise. In this compromise both sides should realize that I may not get everything I desire-but I get what is fair and allows for all people to experience prosperity. Both sides have done atrocious things to one another. No one is innocent in this conflict. People must give up the negative human feeling of always wanting to be right or that their cause is anymore special than the next man. History has served many cultures with tragedy, we must remember but not have an attitude of entitlement. However, we should have empathy for our fellow man. I believe the greed of acquiring land is no reason to annihilate humanity. I pray that one day the saying" Peace in the Middle East" will no longer be relevant.

Bah! Israel didn't start this and never has! The U.S. nor any other country will EVER broker a lasting peace as long as the countries surrounding Israel are determined to wipe them off the earth! Why is it that the liberal media always spotlights Israel when they strike back but RARELY if ever spotlight the continued targeting of Israel with no regard to how many civilians are killed! It always ceases to amaze me.

Mstea says I make a forceful arguement. I did not know I was making an arguement. I was reframing the issue so people from the USA would understand it.
Mstea you argue speciously when you compare rocket attacks to Rodney King. You seem not to care that the Rockets are being fired from densely populated civilan areas. Of course women and children are going to get hurt. That is the point!!! Get world public opinion on your side by this tactic and then you get article writen by Journalist like Aaron David Miller in Newsweek.
Also you miss an underline point when I said, "Mexico puts a wall up between itself and New Mexico". Mexico which represents Egypt does not want anything to do with the Palestians. If they did there would be no need for the wall an there would be commerce between the two areas. One of Hamas demands is Israel removes the wall between itself and the Gaza Strip.

I think everyone is missing the point. Look at the big picture. Ok, Israel hasn't been occupying Gaza in the past few months, but it has made the lives of its people (and im talking largely about the civilians here) a living hell. They have had no electricity, no gas, banks were closed, people were out of work, the airport was closed, food and water were scarce, and to top it off Israeli troops have been going in and out of it as it pleases. Now tell me, is this a life? Do u except anyone to stay silent under that oppression?? Of course anyone in their right mind is going to retaliate and yet everyone insists on turning this into an "act of terror". When a few missiles (which are not even close to being the quality that Israel possesses) hit southern israel (which by the way hit NOTHING), this gives the right for israel to defend itself by raiding bombs on the most heavily densed area in the world, not giving a thought to where its hitting or who? NO. People are not dying. They are suffering. They dont know when a new bomb will hit, or who it will hit. And by the way 2/3 of the people dying are women, children and elderly. Yesterday, a UN school was hit. Ambulances are being targeted. Hospitals, mosques, medical drug stores. Wake up everyone, and see that this is not an act to eradicate HAMAS, this is a monstrous attack with the motive of eradicating palestinians. I think that israel has proven its inhumane and evil character and the people of the world should know that enough is enough. This massacre should come to an end. Simply because this is not the first time israel has pulled something like this, and i assure you at this rate it won't be the last. Don't hear the Israeli side on this only, be objective and listen to both sides. Any decision to back israel and leave to do whatever it pleases will lead to a genocide. This should be stopped now, and if it means for America to get "tough" with israel and work hard for a solution than so be it. Stop making excuses and prevent this genocide.

Case in point newsweek let the truth not be heard

The latest from Pravda oops Newsweek the repackaged modern Pravda. Why does Mr. Miller think Newsweek has any credibility? Anything advocated by Newsweek-Pravda is bad for this nation.

II am tired of seeing Israel labeled as a bully for standing up for itself. If the U.S. were being hit by rockets coming across its borders by a neighboring country, it would waste no time in taking care of the problem. What do the protestors against Israel think Israel should do about the rockets being fired into its towns and citiies? Just ignore them and hope they don't hit anybody?
Miller evidently hasn't read the Bible. There will not be peace in the Middle East until the Lord comes the second time. And He will personally destroy the invading armies who have gathered against Israel. The United States can interfere with Israel all they want, but the bottom line is that the U.S. will not change waht the Lord has said will be.
Let Israel do what it needs to do.
And though I am a Republican, I am sorry that George Bush chose to do nothing about Iran, but instead was obsessed with Iraq. I don't think Washington is ever going to get it right.
