This article seems to leave out one small detail.,thats the fact that the Arabs dont want peace.As long as the Islamic religion turns a blind eye to the senseless carnage done in the name of Allah, there will be no peace. As long as We refuse to speak out, and continue to make excuses for their acts of murder. there will be no peace.When i say excuses Israel is just one of them.We seem to forget the terror of the past and try to believe that if We give these savages what they want We will have peace,We seem to forget that when these people arent killing Jews or Gentiles their killing each other and proudly proclaim it as their gods will.

The real problem is that Israel is an apartheid state. Think about it: Israel is determined to maintain ultimate control over the occupied territories of the West Bank and Gaza through military occupation, illegal settlements and border walls). At the same time, Israel is determined not to allow the residents of these areas to vote in Israeli elections, simply because they're overwhelmingly non-Jewish. How is this not apartheid? You cannot possibly tell me that, if the residents of these areas were overwhelmingly Jewish, Israel wouldn't have fully incorporated these areas into itself back in 1967. But the residents are the wrong race, so they're kept in a permanent Bantustan-like state. And America not only supports Israel at it, we do so to such a fanatical degree that virtually no candidate who questions Israel can win an election here, and virtually no public dissent from the "Israel-is-the-good-guy" line is heard. I don't like Hamas at all, but they're not the root of the problem. Israel is. And, until Israel is willing to either grant full independence to the occupied territories (with right of return for Palestinian refugees) or fully incorporate them into itself, nothing will ever, ever change.

I laud Aaron David Miller for taking such a principled, courageous stance, and speaking truth to justice. His admonition to the incoming President demonstrates a radical but practical evolution in his own thinking, based upon his first-hand, up-close engagement and experience as a U.S. Middle East advisor and negotiator. He obviously has come to realize, understand and accept that there is only one way the United States can possibly mediate an enduring Middle East peace, and broker a settlement of the protracted, horrific Israeli-Palestinian 60-year conflict: formulate, drive and secure broad-based international support for a GENUINELY equitable solution requiring meaningful (and yes painful) compromises from both sides. The United States has to cease claiming to be even-handed, and actually start acting even-handedly. That's all Dr. Miller is arguing. If the United States insists on applying a double-standard in its relations, dealings and negotiatons with the Israelis and Palestinians, it has no right to continue in its role as lead mediator.

The definition of stupidity is to make the same mistakes over and over (involving the same advisors and negotiators pursuing the same failed policies, strategies and tactics), and expect a successful outcome the next time. President-elect Obama, the time is now to change course. Give us the promised ???change that we can believe in.??? The whole world will be watching. You will be judged not on what you say, however eloquent, but what you actually do and accomplish!

Isreal cannot be compared to Nazism. If they were anyting like the Nazi.....they would have totally taken over and have complete and final victory in 1967....remember the 6 day war.....please explain how they defeated the combined Arab country. Infantry vs tanks........logically the Arabs should have won, but we know what happen. Maybe Isreal should finished a war that the Arabs started.

With reference to the writer, Aaron David Miller, you have failed to show equal judgement to this case. Although I agree that Israel should be recognised as a country with borders and has equal rights to defend itself like other nations, I more so disagree to calling this a "defense" only. Hamas was wrong for their arrogance, but Israel is just as mischievous for its rash decisions (besides, their attack was of first). I guess all you had to say about the Gaza CHRISIS was that it is "a case in point", a facinating research perhaps? If Obama really wants to be serious about this, he'll judge this case by himself because a "friend that drags you into a mess is not a friend" (i'm insinuating that "commitment to security" and "national interest" are no the only considerates to this case, there is more - perhaps that Israel made mistakes too?). "Transgressions of the Palestinans", I think you need to recategorise everything in your knowledge because Palestinians are from Palestine, and terorists are world wide criminals (hint: NOT NECESSARILY ARAB OR PALESTINIAN), so we should pick our words carefully before we limit our imagination for violent, terroristic and incitemental requirers, and maybe we should remember that Israel actually has extremists too? I'm sorry but if i write any more i'd be making my own report about you, and there are too many flaws in your report, even some that I did not mention because i'm assuming that you might figure them out.

Your article is written with the serious misconception that the Untide States can create peace in the Middle East. A good study of thousands of years of history will show you that is not likely. The Palestinians do not want "peace" with Israel, they want them gone. Attacking mosques and homes where weapons are being stored is not wrong. And please don't be nieve enought to think that a genocide against Israel is not already occuring. As if the few missles launched at Israel are the first and only issue. The big picture is the Haamas will not rest until the Jews are dead or gone and they would prefer the first solution. Their actions make that pretty clear.

When your big brother has the big stick, iy is very easy to excuse oppression in the name of security. But it is morally
inexcusable. Isreal must take the road to peace seriously and stop the provocative actions that it deems as Her perogative.. Peace cannot be achieved by provocking enemies to respond.

Get tough with Israel??? What do you think our reaction would be if terrorists were launching rockets from Mexico into Texas and the Mexican government either failed or refused to do anything about it. Our troops would be across the border within hours making sure that Americans were safe from Terrorist attacks. Israel is under constant threat of terror attacks, and it has as much right to defend itself as any other nation. It is unfortunate that Hamas uses Palestinian civilians as human shields, but it does not change the fact that Israel has an absolute right to defend itself and its people. Shame on the author for suggesting Obama should "get tough" with Israel. We should mind our own business and let the Israeli's defend themselves.

In the last week or two there was a UN Resolution condeming Isreal" role in this conflict, but no word about Hamas. Where is the equity in that? Isreal already has a stacked deal against them by U.N. The U.S.A. is the only weight to add to balance out the Isreali side to come soemwhere close to balancing out the scale. How much more should the Isrealis be expected to bear. They have already given up a great deal of land first given to them, then won back by them, and then forced to give up again to let the enemy in the back door. And that still isn't enough. The USA must kowtow to the demands of the radical Musleums. Just a tiny piece of the desert, that they worked hard to improve and now everybody wants it? We need to be more balanced in our approach and stop backing Israel ALL THE TIME. Its not in our interests to always back Israel no matter what. We need to focus on what is in the interests of the US, not on what is in the interests of Israel.
