If Israel has the right to defend itself against Hamas rockets by military force, then Palestine should have that same right to defend itself from Israels inhumane and ILLEGAL blockade by military force. In America's words, "Give me liberty or give me death"

Actually, Israeli's and Palestinians have absolutely NOT been fighting forever and there is no reason that they should fight forever. Learn your history and research a little place called the Ottoman Empire. It lasted for several hundred years and the two groups lived in peace. For that matter, look at the Palestinian mandate before the creation of modern day Israel...again the two groups lived in peace!

Ok, so you people are making no sense. I see people saying that God supports Israel; no He doesn't, they gave up his support when they rejected Jesus Christ.

Second, I don't know what it is, but Westerners just hate Muslims, it probably has something to do with the Crusades. If you look at it honestly, the Palestinians were in control of that little strip of land for nearly 1500 years... and then the Jews think they have a right to it? No, not in any sense. That's like Italy trying to take over the Med nd Europe, claiming that it was the Romans and they are entitled to it.

I can't see how the Jews can come out of Nazi concentration camps, only to go to Palestine and put the native people in concentration camps! (Gaza, West Strip)

I"m a white, God-fearing American, not an Arab, so don't go off on me like I am. I just have looked at the situation with an unbiased eye, found this out, and am now anti-Israel.

Well, as a white, G-d fearing American, why don't you become more educated on the Israeli-Hamas conflict? Israel should be recognized as a country for Jews. Once this happens- we can start to think about helping the Palestinians without rockets and terrorism. Westeners don't hate Muslims. Islam is a religion. We hate terrorists and those who burn our flag without reason.

We have given Israel all the latest toys of modern warfare plus billions of dollars to boot. What has she done? She has built a wall around her neighbors from which even super man would have a difficult time escaping. From their experiences in Christian Europe, Israelis know all about the helplessness of being walled in. She is now free to, using planes, helicopters, tanks, UVAs and other implements of war, pour unto a virtually helpless people all of the lethal might, nuclear weapons aside, of which the USA is capable of building and providing her. Like a spoil child, who spits on you and runs back to mommy, Israel is acting a lot similarly. No matter what she does, it is with the backing of the USA. If you are Arabic or sympathizer of Arabs, anywhere on earth today witnessing Israel assert its US backed might to be brutally aggressively and hell bent on displaying its penchant for over-killing, you are probably seething with anger and hatred that will not go away because the US is content to let her spoil hellish child do whatever she pleases.
The world is not ignorant of the fact that Arabs had nothing to do with WWI, WWII or the holocaust. Neither is it ignorant of the fact that the anti-Semitism of Christian Europe, which the USA steadfastly refuses to acknowledge, has led to the murderous slaughter of untold thousands of Arabs. The holocaust, which began in Europe, never ended. It was pushed into the Middle East and primarily upon the Arabs. They, the Arabs have continued to be the victims of the ongoing and never ending holocaust.

WHY NOT GET TOUHG ON HAMAS FOR LAUNCHING ROCKETS AT WILL INTO ISRAEL

  • Posted By: daviav1 @ 01/08/2009 4:39:57 PM

Is it possible for Israel to do anything wrong? If so, is it possible to comment on it without being against all Israelites. Good people make bad decisions all the time. I make them. I expect to be contronted when I do. The people don't make these decision, their leaders do. My comments are not about the people but the decision of the leaders. In fact, the current leader is about to be impeached for corruption. If I am wrong, it is my views of what the leaders do. It has nothing to do with the normal every day people. Many of you believe the leadership in Israel deserve a pass no matter what they do simply because... I am not sure why? No matter.

Israel and Jewish people around the world are always viewed in a negative manner. I heard on the news today about anti Israel demonstrators wanting to kill the Jewish people the way Hitler did. Israel is in constant danger and terrorists groups such as the Hamas are firing rockets at them on a daily basis; shouldn't Israel be able to protect themselves? The Hamas then occupies schools and other civilian locations and fires rockets. This reminds me of tactics Iraq used. Ground troops actually lessens collateral damages, the troops are able to specifically target locations without additional bombing. I'm in support of the Iraq war; however, didn't Iraq use these same tactics which led to the United States implementing an air and ground attack? Israel has every right to protect themselves with all means possible. Living in the United States, we are always on alert for terrorist activity. Try living in Israel where there is terrorist activity on a daily basis and also knowing that anyday a rocket or bomb may be heading your way. Marc L

      That's Bordeline...Bull Spit !!!

They are Portrayed around the World as.... Holy

      "Portrayed as God Chosen People"

"That The World Should Pay Homage to them"

"That they live in the So Called "Holy Land" ..

As if other Lands-Countries are not

As though they are Innocent and Justified, like today, of doing No Wrong.

As though they are justified in Every Military Act.

"We are being Threatened on a Daily Basis and are So Helpless"

Though we have all the Nuclear Weapons, Biological & Chemical Weapons and the Superior Military...

While the Palestinians are Living in Poverty and Despair, they are the Real Threat and Danger.

Have you ever heard of the Holocaust?!!!!!! Where in the world did you get your education. No one, not one country wanted the Jews before, during and after the Holocaust. Maybe you feel that Israeli civilians -women & children, should allow themselves to killed by rockets. Where were you as a journalist when rockets were being fired into Israel for at least a week before Israel started to defend themselves. Interesting, that never made the front page of any newspaper or any breaking news report. I would like to know what your plan is, as a Jew, if history repeats itself. I sure hope you don't look to Israel to let you in, as the Holocaust survivors did in their effort of regaining hope after their lives were shattered. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Daughter of Holocaust Survivor

Jews and palestinians have fought forever, and will fight forever. I have no qualms with either group but the problem I have as an American is that my son is in Iraq fighting for THIS country and for some reason the News media seem to think that we are all concerned with folks who have been at it since time began. Israel and palestine fighting is NOT news. Our troops in Iraq IS!!

    Broad, sweeping statements like:

"Israel has every reason to defend itself against Hamas. But does it make sense for America to support its policy of punishing Hamas by making life unbearable for 1.5 million Gazans by denying aid and economic development?"

are completely uninformative and probably misleading. I had no idea that Israel was in a position to deny these things. Exactly what aid and economic development has Israel denied - and why? Few of us want the innocent punished but often it just isn't avoidable - especially when fighting this cowardly enemy.

When the border is open, a series of quasi-military, quasi-terrorist organizations fool suicidal muslims into self-immolating themselves and Israelites for martyrdom. Thus the border is tightly controlled when open.

When Israel is provoked beyond endurance and responds, the people who fight for these same cowardly organizations hide/fight beneath women's skirts, in residential areas, in mosques, and even in schools. When women, children, and civilians are killed as a result they have the unbelievable chutzpah to cast blame on the enemy they gave no choice. How do we even listen to this?

I often wonder how many of us consider what our reaction would be if Mexico were treating the US similarly to Hamas' treatment of Israel. If Mexicans were exploding daily on Wall Street and rockets landing daily in San Diego, or Tucson, or San Antonio, or Los Angeles - how would WE react?

I believe that the reason this problem drags on endlessly without solution is that, with the media taking the lead, the world has allowed Hamas and the other terrorist organizations operating in Palestine to justify what is not justifiable. How did that happen? How much did the media's need for access and a reporter's fear of retaliation figure into such a slanted view of things? These are things the media should take a careful look at.

If the US were Israel, one rocket or one exploding "martyr" would be one too many. We would do what it took to prevent another. The media might even join the cause if the explosion were in, say, the lobby of the New York Times.

You reporters want to blame everything on Israel. The whole problem over there is their fault. Let me ask you would it be our fault if Mexico decided that they wanted New Mexico and California back that we took it unfairly so every day they start sending rockets into those states. Just how long would it be before the people of the U S started screaming for us to go into Mexico? Yet when Israel has had enough you side with Hamas and Hizbullah. The Palestinians have brought the land invations on theirselves. They voted Hamas in knowing their policy was to destory Israel. They let them put wepons in their homes and schools without saying a word. You people and I???m talking about Europe also fail to repot these facts and only report the schools and the poor Palestinians being killed. Well you better hope the US never stops supporting Israel because once they quit fighting over their they???ll be after the reast of the world. They will be satisifed with nothing less then taking over the world at any cost. As long as they beleve the fulish idea that tey will become marters and get 70 vergins when they get to paradice they will not fear death as we do. Wake up and smell the roses buddy they???re after you and you better change your views and hope Obama doesn???t stop supporting Israel. We need them for an allie over their. Better the fight there then here

One slight problem, you have too much faith in the people running this country's government and news media. They will side with whomever they think the world wants them to side with. In the past 15 years (probably more), our government has repeatedly bowed to the wishes of other countries and the U.N. We allow them to tell us what is wrong, and where it is wrong. If ANYcountry wanted land back that we attained through agreements or war, and they were aggressive toward the U.S., I am sad to say that we would do whatever they wanted from us, and we would do it whaile beating ourselves with a whip for all of the hurt we've inflicted on them. This is the country we have willingly become, and the country our media wishes for Israel to become.

It seems to me that all the troubles are caused by Israel (that is bulls--t) If hamas would stop buying weapons and use the monies to feed their people there would be a whole lot less problems in that region.. If the Jews are to leave - where do they go???? I think the "American" People need to leave the USA. We took the land from the Mexicans and The Native Americans (Indians). We should all then go back to the countries from which we came.!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: epryor @ 01/08/2009 4:27:10 PM

Not a valid argument. The generation whose homes were destroyed are still alive in Gaza, unlike the Native americans and Mexicans who died a long time ago. Besides, Native Americans and those of Hispanic descent are full citizens with the rule of law on their side. Our nation is their nation. Can you say that of the Palestinians? They don't even have the right to own or lease land.

  • Posted By: ChristianPLOSoldier @ 01/08/2009 4:11:25 PM

Forget the 10-to-1 kill ratio. Let's look at the context: 1) the rockets; their context? the siege of Gaza: for 4 years the Israelis have been bombing and starving the 1.4 people in the giant prison camp that is Gaza. 2) "but wait, didn't these people elect Hamas, which wants to destroy Israel?" - Yes, but in what context was that? Haven't the Israelis but voting into power for 60 years parties, left and right, which not only advocate the destruction of the Palestinians as a people, but have in fact carried it out without reprieve? As Labor, Likud ans Kadima are all Zionist parites, isn't the wiping of Palestine off the face of the map their reason for existence? 3) "yes, but what about the context of the Holocaust? didn't the Jews need a homeland?" - Sure, but why at the expense of the Palestinians? They didn't commit the Holocaust!" 4) "But wasn't it the Arabs who refused the original partition plan?" - Yes, this is a plan that would have given to the Jewish newcomers 3 times the land they had already taken, bought or stolen. OF COURSE the Arabs rejected it, there's no people on earth who wouldn't have! And in the resulting war the Israelis took TWICE even that land, leaving the rightful owners with only 22% of the land they had inhabited for 2,000 years.

There was never a real Palestine. The Romans renamed the area after the Philistines bacause the Jews that actually lived there kept revolting against the Romans. The Romans tried to kick out the Jews and name the area after their enemies as an insult.

  • Posted By: eodancer @ 01/08/2009 3:52:26 PM

The only way Israel will ever have peace is to make friends with their neighbors, whatever it takes- giving back land, helping the Palestines to rebuild their homes, businesses and infrastructure, and developing trade. That way both sides win.

    • Posted By: sweet caroline whoa oh oh @ 01/08/2009 4:08:46 PM

Right. Just how we beat the Germans and Japanese in WWII. It's not like we beat the holy heck out of them and forced them to surrender - at which point we helped them rebuild their countries. Israel's problem is that they treat the Palestinians too humanely. I am not kidding. The only way to defeat a people who continuously attack you is to keep beating on them until they surrender. Flowers and capitulation - especially in the Arab world - is considered a sign of weakness, and is asking for trouble.

What is toughness and fairness when your next door neighbor is shooting at your children. Giving Hamas a voice, a group which chooses to distroy rather then talk.... Land for peace will never work. These people want to eliminate Israel. What sort of people rather strap bombs to there children than feed them. It's people like you who give them a voice, and protect there murdering ways...
