Thank you Mr. Miller. I think the time has come (and is actually overdue), for criticism of Israel's policy's of unchecked aggression against the Palestinians. Settlement expansion has been permitted for years, and the 18 month blockade of goods and fuel in winter is cruel and excessive. Did the Israelis really expect the Palestinian people of Gaza to just quietly die from lack of fuel for heat and cooking and lack of medical supplies? Who would sit by and watch their family and friends suffer? The ongoing invasion and terror campaign in Gaze is outrageous! Americans should be writing their representatives in Washington to demand a withdrawal of American support for this action and a reconsideration of our support of such a radical administration.
Americans have been bullied into silence for fear of being called antisemetic if they criticised Israel's policies. That is ridiculous and destructive to everyone. No country is free of bad decisions and wacky actions. Israel is no exception.
No country's policies should be exempt from healthy criticism and debate.

Yabetcha is right what nation would put up with the rockets the suicide bombers. this article is ridiculous ! When america was threatened they started a war across the world and justified it . this is right in israels own land! they are not going to afganistan or iraq to protect what they believe in . The nerve to suggest that israel doesn't have the right to defend itself in it's own land. America does not have the right to come in and force it's own agenda!

How could you respect a President who will negotiate with Hamas-- an "entity" who stores arms in schools and fires from INSIDE those schools when CHILDREN ARE PRESENT? How can you negotiate with people like this? Ask yourself--why don't the Israelis employ this TACTIC? How come the Israeli's do not use their children as human shields? Maybe we value our children a bit more. Golda Meir said there will never be peace in the Middle East as long as the Arabs use their children to further their "cause" at any expense.

If the President elect had no fear of being attacked--why then is his limo suited with armor and hermetically sealed windows to keep out chemicals in case of bioterrorism?

Why do your children go to private school? Safer? Easier to control who has access to them? You protect your children like any parent would--the Israelis are doing the same. If not, why are your daughters not Gaza Girls? Why don't they live their lives in a less sheltered environment--one with more risks for their safety. Because you want the best for them--as any normal parent would.

Otherwise might I suggest Barack, that you drive with the top down on your new wheels--you will be cooler than you already are.

What?? Disrespect our new President??? There are 2 choices- either negotiate with Hamas (lawfully elected government of Gaza), or just kill them all just like they are doing now.

Miller........you are seriously deluded. There is NO negotiatiated peace that Hamas will accept other than the COMPLETE destruction of Israel. And Hamas is the elected "leader" of the Palestinians in Gaza. They WANT these goons and the destruction that these goons are bringing upon Gaza.

So until YOU can change THEIR minds to accept the State of Israel in SOME form......FORGET IT....this war must continue. And Obama the Messiah - or Hillary......Forge that too. They WILL NOT change this reality in a 1000 years..... again, it will require a major sea change by the muslims that run Hamas.

Does anyone wonder why, it is Israel that must acquisce to the Palestinians and more specifically Hamas. The media paints such an agreesive picture of how Israeli's go in and attack thiese poor defenseless people. Does the media ever report the israeli's prewarn the innocent peolpe to get out because they are a bout to be bombed? History proves the land has been in the hands of the Israeli's for over three thousand years minus a a few hiatuses. Where did the Palestinians come from? They are refugees who have been thrown of many other Arab countries. The only thing they have in common is their hatred for a specific people. If what has happened to the nation of Israel, happened to any other nationality the whole world would come down upon them in a heart beat. May be the media outlets have another agenda we do not know about. For the truth has not been getting out without the slant of Israel being the aggressor and not the one being attacked. Why is this allowed to happen?

  • Posted By: inter1d @ 01/08/2009 11:12:04 AM

Your twisted logic of getting tough on a victim to appease an aggressor never works. Why would you blame Israel for trying to defend itself against shrapnel filled rockets designed to to kill and wound. I'm sure your very safe sleeping at night in your New York City condo not having to worry about rockets filled with shrapnel landing in your bedroom.
What you fail to realize is that mid-east mindset culture is that "might equals right". Maybe when the majority of Palestinians that elected Hamas will realize that terrorism is not a solution and that "real" peace can occur when palestinians rise up and elect a party thats wants peace, unlike Hamas who's charter is to desroy Israel.

"and the desert shall bloom like a rose" Remember films of that dry rocky land--Israelis drained the swamps, removed rocks in the dry areas and irrigated and made the land bloom. They now supply the flowers and fruit and vegetables to Europe in their winter. Whether or not Miller thinks the land is "Much Too Promised Land", it is still the land grant that the Almighty God gave Abraham and Isaac and Jacob....with SPECIFIC BORDERS! Jacob was renamed "Israel" by God. God promised in Jeremiah's prophetic book that he would punish the nations that try to 'divide my land'. Since the US required Israel to give away the Gaza, we've had lots of hard times in the U.S. Give away 1/2 of Jerusalem? THAT should be 'picnic time' in the U.S. Since I LIVE here in the U.S., I wish that we wouldn't help the UN in continuing to 'carve off' Israeli soil and give it to their enemies.

i am ahamed to be an American at this point in time, and I never thought I would say anything like that, nor have I ever felt that way in all of my 60 years. But the comment about the Lamb who who will come back as a reigning King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, will decide the fate of the Hamas. And it is such a stupid argument-because the land they're on doesn't even belong to them-it was given to Israel long ago by a higher power-God-you know the one you all don't think exists anymore?
Also-Jesus told us that these times would come-when the city of Jerusalem is surrounded by armies, we were warned the time was drawing near the end-so to us- this is just the beginning of the end. And Jesus said-"they will cry peace, peace but there will be no peace."- doomsday-it's not a myth.

Mr Miller obviously hasn't read the right book, the Holy Bible. God has promised his chosen people the land that they now posess. It wouldn't matter who becomes the president in the US or Israel, or the deal they may strike concerning any division of the land, it will never overide the "Promise" of God. God has also promised that "those who will bless Israel, He will bless. Simply look at the historical facts and you will see that this land will never be given up. The US had better take a long hard look before making any decisions, or deals with the aggressors. We have been a blessed nation, not because we are Godly, moral, or the light of the world that our founding fathers established, but because God is faithful and keeps His promises...blessed because of our friendship toward His people...Israel!

I have to say, for as intricate a subject as we have here, some of you people writing in make me glad and proud to live with you. Our opinions match and even supersede articles reported or written by those who make it their living.
We don't always spell with terrific accuracy but we're thinking with our grey matter. I had almost given up communicating on sites like this because too many deteriorate into 3'rd grade name calling.
However, all good things must come to an end; there are floors to be swept and beans to be stirred.............rave on!

For a long time I thought what Kitty has a brainwashed view of the POOR ISRAEL being a victim. But after my european travels and talking and looking at other news media I had a rude wawakening and I was appaled at the atrocities committed by Israel. Even EX-President Carter mentions in clear terms in his book that Israel is not that innocent.
Even looking at latest events clearly depict the horrors the cold blooded behavior of IDF and solderiers in Gaza stopping the red cross humanitarian efforts to help Palestinian children lying wounded in a house in front of thir eyes even the audacity to bomb on CLEARLY MARKED AMBULANCES AND TRUCKS and killed a driver. Point to stress how can you mistake a NORWEGIAN as a HAMAS FIGHTER. So HEEEEEELO to you. Do not forget your on predicament when Hitler kicked your ass. You should be more caring

Get tough on Isreal is code talk for we are ready to give up democracy. Lets just continue to cave in to the Islamic demands untill they are sated. Get real about it. They do not now and never will believe Israel has the right to exist. Those "civillians" who dance in the streets whenever a cowardly terrorist blow is struck against Israel OR the US will never live in peace no matter how much youappease them. The appeasement itself only encourages them to demand ever more. There are very few Muslims who are not radical. we kid ourselves when we repeat that politically correct mantra. Now if someone can explain the unholy alliance between the America/Christian hating left and the despotic Theocracatic Islamic dictators , now that would be journalism.

    PART ONE

There are a few statements that you make which are key:

Firstly you say with impressive understatement:

???The potential for a nuclear Iran, combined with the growing accuracy and lethality of Hamas and Hizbullah rockets, will create tremendous concern.???

Concern is not the right word. Using the word concern underscores the light heartedness with which the left wing in America treats the possibility of a second Holocaust within one hundred years. America is protected by a huge land mass and a thousand silos of nuclear missiles, Israel is smaller that just about every State in America save for maybe Hawaii. Israel exists in a different strategic universe. American policy forgets this time and time again.

You need to read up on the Hidden Imam, and the ways in which the Iranian President is preparing for his return. This involves renovating a mosque in Iran where Shiites expect the ???second coming???. The Shiites believe that annihilating all Jews will also hasten the second coming. Anyone who attempts to analyse Iranian policy without serious consideration of this (blasphemous) theocratic policy is condemned to misunderstand Iranian and Shiite intentions. It is blasphemous as in Islam ???no man may know of his coming???: Despite this, Ahmadinejad is readying the mosque and arming himself with weapons of Armageddon.

Israel is not alone. The world is cruel to small minorities; speak to Armenians, Africans from Darfur, Brazilian Native forest dwellers or Native Americans. This is not just a Jewish problem. However this leads to the next point that is often missed. The Arabs control the world???s petroleum and thereby its economy also controls 99% of the Middle East. They have managed to convince the rest of the world that they are the downtrodden minority against Israel. This is a Sophism that many Americans also believe. They are 1.5 billion Muslims against 10 million Jews!

By failing to absorb the palestinian refugees whom numbered no more than 700,000 in 1948, the Arabs have played a long-game against Israel. At that time Israel was forced to absorb over 1,000,000 Jews who were expelled from Arab and Muslim countries. Somehow (and in spite of accusations that Israel is engaged in genocide against Arabs), the so-called refugees have grown to anything from 5,000,000 to 7,000,000 people. Unable to defeat Israel on the battlefield, the Arabs are attempting to defeat it with demographics, by insisting that any peace deal involve the return of these Muslims to Israel.

I am not a revisionist....but someone correct me as to when did the State of Isreal (as we know it today) come into being. You see, I am not theological inclined and do not possess a scholarly geographical understanding. But, before World War II, there were not that many so-called Isrealis in the middle east. In fact, that part of the world (during World War II was controlled by the British). If memory serves me correct, there is a document entitled the "White Papers" which gave people fleeing the Holocaust a temporary place of refuge. Thus, it seems to me that this entire matter comes down to legitimacy insofar as it pertains to who rightfully occupied this area.
The countless wars that were waged over the past 60 years seem to indicate that the current nation of Isreal has rightfully earned its property claims; nonetheless, the question still lingers (where were these people prior to World War II?)
I find the current situation troubling. The countless loss of lives; the rampant destruction; and the total disregard for human rights causes me call for all humanitarians to speak out.
The United States gives the State of Isreal 3 billion dollars annually. I think we could effectively bring Isreal into line by simply making it clear that we will no longer finance them (as well as discourage others from doing so), unless they cease-and-desist.
To all you who rally for Isreal to continue on its path, consider the following: If you witness a situation were a woman was getting raped and her rapist stated that he was going to continue his sordid act until he completed his intended purpose, and if it were within your means to stop it, would you allow him to continue his sordid transgression. Of course you wouldn't. Because it you were to turn a blind eye, or even use the rationalization that she had it coming, such an act would make you just as guilty as the rapist.
We should restrain Isreal or we should cease providing them support. If you think that by doing so you secure your place in heaven, I think God will judge you just as guilty of crimes against humanity as well as acts tantatmount to War crimes.

the authors are correct. in effect, it is the role of the u.s. president to "protect israel from itself." israel's incursions deep into lebanon were predictably counterproductive. so are its bombing, etc. of gaza domestic politics wihin israel may explain some of its behavior, but the u.s. cannot allow our security, and world security, to be captured by domestic politics in israel, especially when some of that behavior is immoral. obama must declare that its provision of offensive weapons to israel has conditions--that we will consider both sides of the conflict, the needs of all concerned, and respond accordingly.

I think people should keep their noses out of israel. That's God's choosen people. Leave them alone! Muslims are nothing but bad news in my opinion. Especially a muslim American president sticking his nose where it does not belong. This could be the beginning of the end for America.

Israel left Gaza to the Palestinians. What have the Palestinians done with it? Instead of trying to make it a good place to live they have made it an armed camped dedicated to the destruction of Isreal. They allow their people to continue to live in camps and squalor so that they can make the case to the world elites that they are owed more. Mr. Miller is the perfect example here. The Arab world is full of oil wealth that offers the means to a prosperous outcome if used for good instead of rearming Hamas and other militant Jihadists. And why is there so much outrage with Israel defending itself? All we see and hear about are the inocents killed and the "disproportionate" Isreal response. How about if Israel indiscriminately sends 6000 rockets into the civilian neighborhoods of Gaza (exactly what Hamas has done). That would be proportionate and kill a great many more civilians than Israel will kill in its current actions. And where does this inane porportionate response arguement come from? Did England defend itself in WWII proportinately after Hitler sent his rockets into London? No, England firebombed German cities. War is hell but to win against those who start these things you are a fool if you think that proportionate response is the answer. I guess we could have stopped Japan or won the war with them if we had just killed 3000 or so Japanese in response to their attack on Pearl Harbor. Is there any real understanding out there of how the world works?

I am both shocked and sadden by this article. And if I'm not mistaken, Israel was founded for the price of 6.3 million lives. Lives that were taken because some one held the view that it was time to get tough on the Jews. Remember, it wasn't the Jews or Israelis who united and decided to fly airplanes into the twin towers, it was the same folks who fuel the hatred of Hammas. Let me remind you who danced and cheered in the streets on 9/11, it wasn't the Israelis.
