Where is thr outcry against hamas! This is absolutely ridiculous! What is wrong with people? Where is the anger of what Hamas has done! They are hiding the weapons the have in UN schools, and amongst civilians. They hide there weapons among innocent palastinian people like cowards, and then fire and kill Israelis every single day! And now, because Israel has decided to defent itself, the world cries out against Israel? Disgusting!

The outcry should be against those terrorists and the using of civilians as shields to protect themselves. If America actually had a TRUTHFUL news orginization, that would report everything without the spin, then more people would see this war for what it is! No one wants to see any innocent people die, but sitting and letting your country get destroyed by terrorists is NOT peace. I hope Israel does not let up until the job of destroying hamas is done. Shame on you, Aaron David Miller....I agree with those who suggest that you go live in Israel right outside Gaza or the West Bank.....and while you're there, enjoying yourself & taking the side of the extremist who will rejoice in killing you and your loved ones, you can re-read history about the establishment of the state of Israel, all it offered to the "Palestinians" and what they refused. Mr. Miller, in order to be 'open minded' you write like an idiot who just 'wants to be loved'...in other words, you are politically correct and not factually correct....what a shame. Hmmm, will you duck for cover when the Hamas or Hezbollah rockets are aiming for you? Or, will you shout out " It's not my fault...I"m on YOUR side!"...Cause they won't hear you or care...they'll just blow you into smithereens. Then, if you survive, try & 'talk to them'...see where THAT gets you. And let us know when you finally decided to pick up arms to defend yourself, your wife, your mother, you daughters & sons. Can someone show me the Newsweek article condemning the Hamas rocket attacks into Israel? Since they are a daily occurence, I'm sure there are at least 2-3 from this year alone.

The author of this article is not only naive, but just plain dumb. Get tough on the Israelis? Uh, simple fact check: It was the Palestinians who elected Hamas to be their representatives. It is Hamas whose charter calls for the destruction of the state of Israel. When Israel left in 2005, it uprooted settlers and left Gaza to its own devices. The blockade is harsh, but a necessary reality because not a day goes by when some disenfranchised Palestinian decides to blow himself up and kill innocent civilians. And as for the blockade itself - the Palestinians have to create their own self-sustaining economy and drive growth from within. Egypt's blockade is just as stringent, with the exception that is freely allowing arms and munitions to pass through to Gaza and supply Hamas. And to think wie gave the Egyptians $23 million to shore up their border with Hamas. The author clearly has not lived in Israel long enough to understand the dynamics at play here - before you write something, live in the shoes of those who you write about.

I am Brazilian. It is incredible how you Americans are biased in favor of Israel. Since its inception in 1947, made possible through taking all the then-disputed land, every single conflict is an opportunity for the Jewish state to size another slice of Arab/Palestinian piece of earth. Any lasting peace can only be based on sharing such land. Yet, in a letter below one reader said "The country is already shrinking" ... Well, face it. Many of you Americans/Israelis do not want any sharing of land, or any fair agreement.

Peace in the middle east is the same as the unicorn - a myth. There never will be peace in the middle east as long as there are palastinians/arabs/muslims that see nothing but hate for everyone else in the world. And as long as the jews think everyone else is out to get them. As long as the Israelis keep poking everyone with a pointy stick, everyone will poke back. Face it, if they wanted to make peace, they would have done so a long long time ago - without any help from us. If PEBO wants to get tough with Israel, just pull the plug on all the aid you and I end up spend there, along with all the other support. Don't just suspend it, stop it for good. No US help/aid.weapons sales, etc. to any nation or group in the middle east. And if folks here object to the idea, then they have split loyalties. If the jewish and muslim communities don't like it, then pack your bags and get on a plane and go defend your "homeland", because you don't have the loyalties to be a US citizen. There is absolutely no reason why this country should baby sit Israel, Gaza, Jordan, Syria or any other country, territory or group. They are all grown up and can fight their own battles.

Ummm....Mr. Miller....why don't you and your family move to Israel....better yet, the border area they have next to Gaza and remain there for the duration of your career. Cowards like you would get a different perspective as you write your column from an underground bunker. Your first article should include why Hamas, totally unprovoked, is lobbing shells indiscriminately into civilian areas of Israel and not keeping truces . Maybe Hamas will take care of you though, and we will be spared from the totally ridiculous opinons you write.

Btw, I am not surprised to find that the author of this article is Jewish! In fact, when I saw it, first thought that came to mind, "I bet a Jew wrote that one!!"

Your dead wrong. Hamas has started the Agression with Isreal. What is Isreal supposed to do Lay down and die, and let their people die, or fight back like their doing.. If Obama is to make peace in the Middle East he needs to stop HAMAS from trying to destroy Isreal. If Hamas and Iran and Syria leave Isreal alone, there would be no fighting. DA don't you get.

Are you kidding me? How about getting tough on the Arab Leage for their oppression and descrimination of the "Palestinian" people. I hope that Israel succeeds in their mission to destroy the missile launching and terrorist capabilities of Hamas in Gaza. They have been asking for this. Palestinians have fired more than 6,000 rockets and mortars into Israel since the Israeli withdrawal -- all without provocation. The rocket fire even continued during the six-months of "calm" in the Gaza area that ended last Friday. And they never had the compassion to send text messages to all the cell phones in the area to warn of the coming danger, as Israel did the eve before this mission began.
