this article has been loooooong overdue in the US media.

I guess you like articles written in ignorance.

    • Posted By: WeNeedMoreCommonSenseNow @ 01/08/2009 9:55:56 AM

Yes, this article is long overdue. In a parallel universe. It didn't address the ideological fanaticism that is RAMPANT.
How about you go over there and ask Hamas to "please" stop bombing Israel and see what they say to you?

Our blind support for Israel will only continue to jeopardize our security here at home, where it really matters.

Israel an its supporters can go their and continue their endless wars if it choses to, just keep America out of it!

I hope that Obama finally puts an end to the billions of tax payer's dollars that is allocated each year for the benefit of this apartheid state.

The wish of the Arab world is that Israel amd the Jews be wiped off the face of the Earth. This is publicly stated by almost (I say almost) every Arab and by most of the Arab governments. The Palestinians are trying to achieve that goal. Israel should napalm Gaza and be done with it. As long as the Palestinians are there they will never quit trying to destroy Israel.

I do not agree with your statement " But does it make sense for America to support its policy of punishing Hamas by making life unbearable for 1.5 million Gazans by denying aid and economic development? The answer is no." It is the 1.5 million Gazans who support, elected, and allowed Hamas to come into power in their country. They are responsible for Hamas. They need to understand the results of supporting such a radical group, who by the way are our enemies, they are terrorist.

There will never be peace in the middle east until Jesus Christ comes back and sets foot on Mount Olive. Only then will there be peace for Isael and the rest of the world. Does that mean we should not strive for peace in the middle east? No, but we must have reasonable expectations and to have reasonable expectations you must understand that Israel's claim to this land and the reason for many of the conflicts dates back before Christ was even born. And Israel does not operate or make their decisions concerning boundaries based on their consitution but on what they consider to be the word of God.

There will be those that will question how I can speak of God and support a war which as we all know destroys and kills. Please read the Bible, God tells us in his word that there will always be wars and rumor of wars. Also, read about all of the battles that he made Israel victorious when he sent them across the river Jordon into the promise land.

I believe the U.S. has and should continue to support Israel because of what the Bible tells us. God tells us in the old testiment that he will bless those who bless Israel and he will curse those who curse Israel. Now there will be those who will rebuff my comments concerning Jesus and God and I do not have the talent or ability of words that would persuade people to change their minds in the belief of Jesus and God and his word. I can only tell the truth as the Bible states it and leave it up to God to change the hearts and minds of people.

Your points are ABSOLUTELY correct. And, you are right on, Jerry. During George W.'s tenure, Israel gave up the Gaza strip, which the United States pressured them to do...and within weeks...we had Katrina....not too terribly later, we had 911. If people think that we are going to "save" money, or gain "credibility" by supporting terrorists, and NOT supporting Israel, they are, sadly mistaken, and if they think things are bad now, they haven't seen anything. And the crazy "protests" (obviously by militant Muslims and their sympathizers) throughout the world that went on against Israel--so many are deceived, and only God Himself can help them see.

The conflict between Jew and Arab goes back to Abraham and his two sons Issac (Israel) and Ishamel (Arab). They both fathered nations and have been at each other throats ever since.

P.S. I spent 7 years in the Middle East thats where I get my opinion and this land was promised to The Jews by GOD!

I don't think Israel thinks it's political, just liberal ignorant Americans. Newsweek has taken the steps to make sure it's political.

Why don't you see the real picture of events. Hamas is starting the aggression with Israel. What is Isreal to do, Lay down and Die and not fight back and let their people die?

  • Posted By: Tmoon77 @ 01/08/2009 9:54:11 AM

Hmm, juding by the commente here I see there is a lot of work ahead. There is just hate on both sides and rightly so. The funny thing is both sides are right. The Palestine's were shifted around and land taken over when Israel became a state after the War. And Israel has a point of not wanting to be bombed daily by Hamas or others. So how do we fix this as world citizens? Who's land is it? Well history tells us that for the most part it has been a tribal place with this tribe whipping this tribe and so on and so on. I don't claim to have all the answers or know everything but am a little tee'd off that a state the size of New Jersey can take so much attention in world affairs no matter who is right. But I wish both sides good health and an end to all the killing and hope someone can put an end to all this nonsense.

You folks need to get a grip on who the good guys and bad guys are here. If you were siting in your home and the missles started raining down what would you expect our country to do to stop it? 'Everything' I expect would be your answer. The bullcrap about disproportionate response sounds great when your sitting comfortably in your living room. But when your life and lives of your familiy, friends and neighbors are at stake you will demand your government do everything in its power to protect you. Palestians lost what ever rights they had to certain land when they became the aggressors (along with other Arab nations) against Israel. Israel should stop its settlements and withdraw from many, but let's put the blame where it really lies. If the Arab countries in the region wanted to help the Palestians establish a homeland and provide resources to prop them up until they were self-sufficient, they could do that. They choose not to. Why? The largest donors of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians is Israel and the US. Again, why?

Oh my goodness you are soooo right! How dare Israel try to defend themselves. I mean really, why not just little with a few bombs here and there? Right? Why not?

Snark, snark, snark and more snark.

Such a naive article. It's easy to say "get tough on the Israelis" because you know they are rational people with whom you can actually come to some agreement. It's much harder to say, get tough on Hamas, because that will inevitably involve many civilian casualties, since they hide behind civilians in schools, in homes, every where and they aren't in the least interested in any kind of a deal, They publicly state that their goal is to destroy Israel, so liten to them!!!

What a horrible view point of America and Israel. To forsake the total support of Israel would be travesty. Israel has every right to defend itself and more. If the Arab nations feel so impassioned about Palestine, they should use some of their billions of oil money to purchase them land and move them, or at least give them aid other than bombs and weapons. Do you hear Syria, Jordan, Egypt or Iran offering them aid? NO! The best policy for America would be for us to say, we support Israel 100% and whenever the Arabs want to make peace, then Israel can accept it on their terms, not on ours or the Arabs.

  • Posted By: Robersoni @ 01/08/2009 9:51:54 AM

Get Tough with Israel!!!! You mean get tough with the Palestinians who continually throughout history break peace treaty after peace treaty with Israel because of thier hatred for the Jewish people. The Palestinians need only say that they will allow Israel to exist in peace. They need only say this tiny thing, and mean it, and there is pretty much nothing they cannot have. Yet they will not say it. And they will not mean it. For they do not want the Jews. Again and again - again and again - the Palestinians have been offered a nation state in a divided Palestine. And again and again they have turned the offer down, for it has always been more important to drive out the Jews than to have a Palestinian state. It is difficult sometimes to avoid the feeling that Hamas and Hezbollah don't want to kill Jews because they hate Israel. They hate Israel because they want to kill Jews.We as Amricans need to hold the Muslim world acountable for thier terroistic view point of world domination and the genecide of the Jewish people.

Question, should Israel be allowed to protect itself if Hamas keeps firing rockets at them?

  • Posted By: unanymous1 @ 01/08/2009 9:50:37 AM

Tough on Israel? Are you kidding me? I hope that Israel suceeds in their mission, to end the terrorist capabilities of Hamas in Gaza. Israel did not break this "cease-fire". Palestinians have fired more than 6,000 rockets and mortars into Israel since the Israeli withdrawal -- all without provocation. The rocket fire even continued during the six-months of "calm" in the Gaza area that ended last Friday. And the Palestinians never text messaged those Israeli citizens to let them know to evacuate the area, which is exactly what Israel did the evening before this opperation began. When is the world going to realize that the real problem here is the oppression and discrimination of the Palestinians by the Arabs, who refuse to accept them into any of their societies and use tham as a pawn against Israel. For the actual history of this conflict, read thia article http://www.imninalu.net/myths-pals.htm.

Another solution from an intellectual idiot. You can argue till hell freezes over whether Israel should be where it is today, the point is that it is there, and unless we have another holocaust it will remain there. Before any solution to the eventual peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine the violence must stop. The firing of one rocket into Israel is an act of
terrorism. You don't negoitate with terrorists, you teriminate them. Israeli response to terrorism should not be a measured
response with "rules of engagement" but only the total elimination of those initiating the terrorism. The resultant civilian
deaths occurring in Gaza are the fault of those (Hamas) who first fired the rocket. Stop the violence, sit down at a peace table, negotiate, compromise, and get on with life in the 21st. century.

    • Posted By: SAMOW @ 01/08/2009 9:50:22 AM

how many years has Israel tried to eliminate these "terrorists" By the way, who is a terrorist? if both Israel and Palestine fail to realize that killings do not solve problems, then they will continue forever to be as they are. there will forever be deaths in both camps. we should stop following the "cow-boy" mentality and try for a peaceful solution. both the Israelis and Palestinaians are terrorists.

How about i come over to your house, take over, give you and your family a small bathroom to live in, and than use that bathroom daily to piss and ***. how would you like that? And really a news article from foxnews? can we have a more bias newsgroup than foxnews? Those moroons need to get theis head out of their own ass. If you want equality in israel and palestine, than how about providing both communities with equal arm support and than lets see if Israel can attack the homes of innocent people.

    • Posted By: Common Man @ 01/08/2009 9:50:01 AM

The USA/Israel should wipe palestine off the map, which would end THAT problem. Then do the same to iran. Now we would have peace for a period of time.

  • Posted By: amethyst9 @ 01/08/2009 9:49:40 AM

Oh pleeze! The Israeli's are not the problem - the intransigent and lusting for death Arab (what's a Palestinean?) TERRORISTS and MURDERERS are the problem. They have denied the existence of Jews and Israeli's since before 1948. Last year they could have been celebrating the 60th anniversary of a free and democratic Palestine (which, by the way, did not exist before '48), and instead, the majority decent populations are controlled by IRAN, HAMAS AND HEZBULLAH. Feel free to join me on a bus in Jerusalem the next time I visit - even though I am not religious, I pray as I get on it that no ARAB TERRORISTS joined me.

You know the thing is...All of us who Support Israel's actions b/c we know God's promise and know they are proctected by God, can scream our belief from the mountain tops all day long. But I think deep down we know it won't do any good. And it's not JUST B/c we are a nation with a liberal BIAS media and now also a liberal - de-moralized president elect, but I believe we can sense that there has been a plan of action set in motion by that "Higher power" we believe in. By GOD. I often wonder why more people have not noticed the things that have been prophecied are unfolding rapidly before our eyes. Yet so many insist on being ignorant to whats really going on in the world today, take a look at the big picture. Everythings thats happening ...I believe, is happening for a reason.
