    Dear Mr. Miller:

First of all, congratulations on an excellent article. Secondly, I was impressed that it came from a Jewish man like yourself. This shows that you are objective and are not afraid to speak the truth. I was always under the belief that the foreign policy of the United States of America would never change regardless of which president would be in power and regardless if he was Republican or Democrat. From a man who surely knows more about the situation in that volatile region and who's involved in US politics, you have given us hope that finally things will change in the White House with regards to foreign policy. Let's cross our fingers then that this will happen for the benefit of peace in that region, world peace and an improved image of the United States on the world stage.

    Kind regards,

    Jimmy Metaxas

Are you KIDDING me? And the author if this article is Jewish?! Wow...what a slap in the face to your own existence--it is your homeland, your people. Without whom you would not exist, and the world would be greatly impoverished. Those you are defending have PLEDGED, and are DEDICATED to the total destruction of ALL Jews. That hatred runs so deeply, that they won't care even if you happen to be Jewish only by race and not by faith. They HATE YOU--so, I guess if they decided they wanted to kill you, we should not protect you or punish them for harm done to you??? Of course I am not serious. But you obviously are not informed. They also, by the way ,hate Christians...and, if you happen to feel safe because you aren't a Jew or a Christian...they HATE the United States....and if you're not an American...they HATE all who are not Muslim...but, if you still feel safe....they HATE fellow Muslims that do not share their doctrine of HATRED and CONTROL. Mr. Miller, I am praying for you--your people need you---the Jews, and Americans....to accurately protray the full truth, and fulfill your destiny.

just wondering why you are in canada...

  • Posted By: bubnug @ 01/08/2009 9:32:44 AM

Agreed, Ringo Bingo...the US needs to stop letting Israel run amuck. If that had been 500 Israeslis that just got killed, the US reaction would have been very different

    • Posted By: Syrin23 @ 01/08/2009 9:46:14 AM

You are correct. If 500 Israelis had been killed, the US response would have been, "They deserved it". That's how screwed up the press is.

Can someone show me the Newsweek article condemning the Hamas rocket attacks into Israel? Since they are a daily occurence, I'm sure there are at least 2-3 from this year alone.

  • Posted By: Blondie87 @ 01/08/2009 9:46:02 AM

Obviously, whoever wrote this know little about the ideology of a group such as Hamas. There is no possibility for Hamas until Israel gives away the entire land to these Palestinians. The country is already shrinking. How much more can they give away without risking the safety of their people? I think Israel had every right to go into Gaza. Sderot, a city in southern Israel has been under attack for years. How are people supposed to go about their daily lives when that's happening? These rockets are dangerous and injure people! I experienced the Ketyusha rockets first-hand when I visited Israel , and I can't imagine living with that everyday. Israel has been ignoring this problem for long enough!

  • Posted By: Moses1948 @ 01/08/2009 9:45:13 AM

Why don't you visit the Holy Land and get a real taste of reality! It is easy for you to sit in your "Ivory Chair" without looking into what is going on. Once you are there, the sirens sound, try not to run! You walk on water . . . . right?

  • Posted By: kramer1620 @ 01/08/2009 9:44:41 AM

MR. Miller, Pray tell us how should Israel stop the rockets then... Hamas cynically launches their rockets from schools and populated areas. Why dont you read Palestinian textbooks, and see how they educate their kids, and then you might understand why this conflict is a lot more complicated than you think, and you might understand why the palestinians are not like you and me. A complete overhaul of their education system needs to come before they will ever stop hating jews.

Carol42...way to lump a billion people into one stereotype...you are calling someone else narrowminded, ha!

America protects the citizens of the world...in countries where there are natural resources....

  • Posted By: sargebrown @ 01/08/2009 9:41:01 AM

If the Arabs would leave Israel alone, we wouldn't have a problem. The aid we give to the Arabs all gets taken by Hamas anyhow so, whats the problem?

  • Posted By: Carlo42 @ 01/08/2009 9:40:40 AM

How do you get tough with people that had it tough for 5000 years. every time someone tries to kill the jews, we add to their recilliance and will to live. Moslems are to narrow minded to preveal over jews. maybe the should study jewish history an their suffering. So cut the chase and let them live, let them have the right to exist. America is not only the protector our citicens it is the protector of the citicens of the world.

How about if Aaron David gets (a clue). Israel is quite capable of taking care of it's own business and Hamas has made it's bed. Lets try something different and (tend) to our own business here at home. We have enough on our plate without Miller crying foul because the U.S. is not trying to save the world yet again. Charity begins at home.

PATTY DEFINITELY HAS A CLUE... AMERICAS NEEDS MUST COME FIRST

  • Posted By: Emmilly @ 01/08/2009 9:01:06 AM

Israel does not make life "unbearable" for the people occupying Gaza. In fact since its withdrawal it has been the main supplier of aid, food, water and electricity into Gaza - despite the shelling of rockets and fire from the terrorist organizations. During the past 60 yrs, Israel has attended every peace conference to diffuse the mid. east conflict; at one point, Israel was even prepared to give up 95% of its land so that the Arabs would settle and stop attacking their civilians - the Arabs rejected this proposition. the Arabs are not interested in diplomacy nor democracy and peace - they are malicious and focus their attention to an emotive propaganda to divert attention from their suicide bomb missions and hatred for others - especially Jews.
Like you said Mr Miller, America and Israel share the same values of democracy, peace and justice, and this, is why their bond is so strong.
Israel's behavior does not need monitoring, but rather should be studied as its fundamentally moral combat exceeds expectation. Israel drops flyers warning of location and time of the destruction of the infrastructure and they also make phone calls, risking to loose the terrorist in their escape, just to save casualty. This is contrasted with Hamas, as their aim is to target civillians as they train their children to hate rather than nurture their imagination and encourage them to play.

Don't worry Mr Miller, America will not loose its "credit" because it supports Israel's diplomacy, but rather its citizens, as shown with most of the comments below, will follow the fight as it has always done, to support, truth and justice and strength of morality - and I believe that you have seriously underestimated America's clear view on the situation between Israel and the terrorists.

Wow! I couldn't have said it better myself! Comments like yours restore my hope for this country and its future!

  • Posted By: Syrin23 @ 01/08/2009 9:32:47 AM

Aaron Miller, and his family, needs to live in an Israeli neighborhood bordering the Gaza strip for a full year. Then he can come tell us how Israel "should" act. What an idiot.

  • Posted By: larydee38 @ 01/08/2009 9:32:09 AM

well, from a non-jewish individual, i would advise the democratic and republican administrations to find a new advisor, one who knows what is going on in the arab world.

  • Posted By: Clipper 1 @ 01/08/2009 9:09:56 AM

Another solution from an intellectual idiot. You can argue till hell freezes over whether Israel should be where it is today, the point is that it is there, and unless there is another holocaust it will remain there. First order of business should be to
eliminate terrorism. You don't negotiate with terrorists, you terminate them. There can be no excuse for terrrorism. The firing of one rocket indiscriminately into a civilian population is an act of terrorism. Israeli response to such an act should not be concerned with "rules of engagement," but only the total elimination of those responsbile (Hamas) for terrorism. The
resultant civilian deaths in Palestine are the fault of those who first fired the rocket. Only when the violence ceases can there possibility to reaching a solution for peaceful coexistence.

    • Posted By: lionofjudah @ 01/08/2009 9:29:08 AM

The responses of so many others who think clearly is encouraging! Thank God I'm not the only one left with a sound mind. Keep the well thought out comments coming! Our government needs to know how we feel--our voices need to be heard!

  • Posted By: Syrin23 @ 01/08/2009 9:29:02 AM

How does siding with Hamas in ANY WAY dissuade ANY terrorists in the future? The lesson to be learned would be, launch rockets into Israel at every opportunity so that they are forced to defend themselves, then the weak willed leftists in America will blame Israel for their retaliation. Great! Just what Hamas needs, an incentive plan !!

  • Posted By: deuce226 @ 01/08/2009 9:28:44 AM

support isreal at all costs, there are the only one's who would back us up in time of war if needed.

  • Posted By: frisky2412 @ 01/08/2009 9:27:38 AM

Aaron Miller is writing about something he obviously knows very little about. Israel is making life unbearable for 1.5 million Gazans???? How about Hamas, firing rockets from schools and residential areas knowing that is where Israel will strike? They do it with the awareness that the deaths it causes will bring the international community down on Israel because of it. Do you expect Israel to sit back and be fired upon and do nothing because of the cowardice of Hamas hiding behind children and the skirts of women. If you are going to be a journalist get your facts before writing a column. I thought Newsweek had better sense than that. Perhaps I should re-evaluate my reading of that magazine.

  • Posted By: rayray250 @ 01/08/2009 9:27:33 AM

Israel could defend itself without us. The fact we still have ties with them, keeps them from wiping Arabs from the face of the earth, which wouldn't bother me a bit.

  • Posted By: deuce226 @ 01/08/2009 9:26:51 AM

protect isreal at all cost, no matter what. There are our only friends that will ever be able to support us if we needed help.

  • Posted By: Syrin23 @ 01/08/2009 9:26:19 AM

Name another country that is expected to TOLERATE even a SINGLE rocket attack into their border from a hostile nation. Name ANY country. How ****ing dumb are you? They have tolerated literally THOUSANDS of attacks, and are expected to tolerate more? When they gave land back in the GAza strip, rocket attacks increased 500 % !! This Mr . Miller character is so out of touch with the concept of national security, that perhaps he needs to be forced to go live in a neighborhood bordering the Gaza strip for a year, then come back and tell us the proper way to handle a violent attack on your sovereignty.
