To a concerned American Veteran: The guy who wrote this worked with 6 secretaries of state. Where does your expert opinion come from? And the land they keep "giving" back is land that they keep stealing. And, to paraphrase you: "My comments prove you're full of crap."

This problem is not and has not only been an israili problem these hammas people have caused trouble around the world taken over lands that are not their home land like africa and the once yogoslavia. I have to wonder if anyone remembers all of the bombs in europe and other countries around the world. Is there any country that hasn't been attacked by the Muslims? The israilies are from the middle east but like many of you who sit are you computers from free countries trust me you wouldn't want sharia law in your country either. Where are the israilies now supose to go? Take a look at the bible they have proof they are from the middle east long before the muslims. If the muslims want peace maybe they should stop murdering everyone in the name of their so called god. I have seen no evidance around the world that the muslim religion is a religion of peace.

Mr. Miller suggests that the U.S. does not need to punish 1.5 million Gazans because of what Hamas does, but I ask, " Who elected Hamas to run things in Gaza?" Was it not the Gazans? Are not the citizens of the government elected responsible for that government's actions. Why do not the Gazans rise up against Hamas if they do not agree with its actions? There are consequences for every government's actions and the people who elect them are responsible!

Actually, it was the US that pushed for the elections that led to Hamas control. Israel did not want the elections to happen at that time because they knew Hamas would win. But the US told them not to worry it wouldn't happen.

What bullshit drivel! Israel gave up land for peace and it;provides all the utilities to Gaza and is rewarded by thousands of rocket attacks. Israel needs to destroy Hamaswhich would make Egypt and Syria and Jordan happy. The citizens of Gaza elected Hamas and they should help drive them out. Many now provide intel to the Israel's. Do you have to be a fascist to work at the Woodrow Wilson Center

Hamas fired first, and has been doing so for quite a long time now. Israel has the right to defend themselves. Miller is wrong! Gaza has no food or electricity because of hamas. Hamas uses gazans as human shields. Israel has allowed humanitarian aid in. And "looking at life from another point of view" is wrong also!! Hamas has the palestinians hostage, they are the ones causing the gazans misery. Hamas needs to stop shooting rockets into Israel anytime they want, they are terrorists!

Which first are you talking about? This conflict is centuries old.

  • Posted By: Masooma @ 01/08/2009 6:55:58 AM

Obama should think, most importantly, of one thing and 1 thing only: the safety of people. The lives that will be consumed in the hatred in the two countries. Here are the facts people: 3100 Palestinians have been injured; more than 500 have been killed--half of them women and children. Tell me, why are people doing this? I'm not biased, I'm just looking at the facts here. The US keeps saying Israel has a right to defend itself, but come on, hasn't it done enough already? No one is benefiting from this. Israeli's are getting killed. Arabs are getting killed.

If no one stops this, it's going to be another genocide in the making. And this time, no one is going to sympathize with Israel. Half the world is protesting against these murders.

First off the israilies originated in the middle east ask jesus. Where are they supose to go? After years of muslims impososing their way on the israilies the israilies decieded to carve out a peice of land to call their own. Trust me no free country wants to become muslim and to prove my point let's just take a look around the world everywhere these people go they go and become a large population they want to impose sharia law they took over the once Yogoslavia and many other countries this land historicly did not belong to them and now it sudenly does by brut force and strong arming much like the bombs that went off in europe. Israilies have a right not to be forced to live with the muslim lifestyle and I for one never want to live that life style. Most people here wouldn't want to either.

Opinion does not equal fact. But opinion should be based on facts. Stop google-ing your info and read a few well-researched books or articles before spouting off. If you think this conflict "started" recently, you obviously need a history lesson.

Has nobody in the grand old U.S.A heard of 'spellcheck' ?

Where the heck is Isreal ??

  • Posted By: afsheen @ 01/08/2009 6:43:22 AM

I think we all are busy just talking talking and talking CRAP! A sincere action has never been taken and so it look as if it never will be taken for quite some time. Its the strong will of the palestinians that hv gotten them this far and it is the only thing that will take them furthur.
Its a great political tactic to let the Israelis attack the Gazans before one president goes and the other one enters. It is a set up that will continue for some time. And now all we can do is talk about how to end it! Its a Slap on the face on the world leaders who say they are putting and end to terrorism.
Small innocent children ary dying, how will u ever justify that now or in a hundred years to come? Gazans hv no food electricity no phone connections... is it humane? Is it humane to bomdard mosques and shopping malls and then blame the Hamas though it is Israel doing the real killing?

Morning granpa: OK let's say that the Jews were taking parts and you said "small towns". now they are taking EVERYTHING and trying to expand over Others territory. and if the Israelis really wanted to live in peace in the Middle East, why would they reject the Muslims there and make them suffer like what's happening nowadays. look in other countries; in Iran , Morocco and in other parts , the Jews are living in total peace because they were accepted and they accept their life with Msulims and people from other confessions. why is it not the case in the Middle East? i guess that the problems lies in the Israeli Government. they are really a bond of extremists.

  • Posted By: Mytram59 @ 01/08/2009 6:37:32 AM

Why was no one wanting to get tough when Hizbullah rockets were targeting Israel civillians? They only want to get tough when Israel defends itself and starts kickin butt.

  • Posted By: short_sircut @ 01/08/2009 6:35:40 AM

I thought God gave the Israelites the land that they're living in now. So why not let God decide who stays and who doesn't? And why is it that so many countries want Israel wiped out? Is it jealousy or envy? Seems to me that after more than a couple of thousand years of this fighting and bickering that the people in the middle east would finally grow up and move on with their lives and just leave each other alone and go about their daily lives.

  • Posted By: wbachtell @ 01/08/2009 6:35:17 AM

You can't be serious, Miller!?! Where was the "get tough" talk while Hamas was firing rockets at Israeli civilians? When are you people going to wake up and realize that these Iranian-proxy organizations (Hamas, Hizbullah) don't want peace ... they never have, and never will. All they want is to convert, or terrorize and kill, everyone who doesn't share their point of view. They want Israel destroyed, along with all its people, and when that is accomplished, they intend to come after the United States. All civilized nations should be saying to Hamas, "enough is enough!" And to Israel, we should be saying, "How can we help?"

Morning lovana001: I beg to differ with you, read your bible and you will see that no one actually owned the land, it was claimed in small towns and areas that could be defended. Most of the time the neighbor took over the land by defeating it's occupants and making them slaves. The Jews took parts of the land from others after loosing it several times.

  • Posted By: looking at life from another point of view @ 01/08/2009 6:11:25 AM

does any of you know what the you're talking about?!! more than 700 people are dead and more than 3000 are seriosly injured and the numbers are rapidly increasing . Gazans are only defending themselves,Israel started hiting firstbut they are justifing their inhuman actions by saying that they are defending themselves, come on why would the Gazans hit them and they're dying and they have no food no electricity no water and no clothes or shelter and the numbers of dead people and injuries are being broadcasted wrong in europe and america so that people won't know the truth of what is really going on...

    • Posted By: midroader @ 01/08/2009 6:32:08 AM

Israel did not hit first, Hammas has been lobbing rockets into Israel for years, in spite of a peace agreement they agreed to. Israel tried to solve things peacably but Hammas will only accept and understand violence. The people of Gaza have one true chance at peace, expell Hammas. Hammas is like an arrogant little guy in a bar who walks up to a much bigger guy, repeatedly smacks him across the face, and then acts suprised and indignant when the bigger guy finally punches him square in the nose. They are getting exactly what they asked for. How long was Israel supposed to sit idlly by while rockets continued to be launched into their territory?

  • Posted By: lovana001 @ 01/08/2009 6:30:38 AM

i guess that most people think that that spot in the middle East is an Israeli property. it is not. and it as never been so. Israel and Jews are only intruders who are trying to steal the property of others, Palestenians and Arabs in general. this is absolutely unfair!! because when you complain about being disturbed by "a neighbour", then what would you do when someone come to take your house and expulse you and your family from it???
what is the worst?? all i can say that the fake state of Israel has no historical reference and the fighting in the Middele east will never have an end simply because a great majority of people ignore what history has proved and how Israel came to being!!
the killings in Gaza are far more damaging than the rockets of Hamas and it's becoming more frequent that when an Arab cries out or reacts to get his rights, he finds a million obstacles.... and rockets.
p.s. the posting of my comment proves the credibility of this magazine*

How about establishing an all Arab Israeli news channel with around the clock in depth coverage of this conflict. But remove reporting on this issue from every other source, I am done listening to this or being concerned about a millenia old conflict that has no resolution because the parties clearly don't want to resolve it. Apparently they would rather live in constant terror than even attempt to embrace their neighbor.
