Mr. Miller,

Your article is well written and makes good sense on many of the small points.....but you contradict yourself on one big point in your writing:

"Israel has every reason to defend itself against Hamas. But does it make sense for America to support its policy of punishing Hamas by making life unbearable for 1.5 million Gazans by denying aid and economic development? The answer is no."

By defending itself against Hamas and fighting back, it is natural for citizens of Gaza to suffer. Besides, as long as Hamas is the ruling party...they will gain much of it's power from the economic well being of the citizens of Gaza. They will then use that against Isreal. Since your a seasoned writer, I would enjoy a reply back. I'm surprised at the contradiction.

One other question: What would you do if an unreasonable group of people were shooting rockets at your hometown. And if you don't think their unreasonable, you need to get a hold of Jimmy Carter.

There must be some other and humane way to exterminate the 1.4 million in Gaza or 4.8 million Arab Pelestinians, which off course has now become necessary for two reasons. If this is to happen, it should be carried out by the Israelis and that would rid of the Holocost gilt of the White European and the Americans. 4.8 million Pelestenians to vanish from the earth will be a small price to pay when you consider the money needed to keep 5 million Israelis fighting the Arabs and 3.5 billion people around the world living below poverty level in squalor and dehuminizing conditions. In the history many millions in cluding 6 million jews were removed so it will not be new thing. World would have channce to put things in different priority.

Is Miller for real?? Isreal is the *ONLY* nation that I can think of in history that has a 60 year history of almost constant warfare, fighting for its very life, whether that be against formal Arab armies or PLO/Hammas etc terrorists. And from the time of Carter on, the only way the world see's peace is to force Israel to give up territory, again and again. In some places Israel is barely 20 miles across, easily within distance of missle/rocket attacks. Would we or any other nation put up with the near constant attacks Isreal faces? Hell no! Let slip the dogs of war & turn the IDF loose, Hamas has brought this upon themselves!

Why condemn Israel for protecting itself. When 9/11 happened, were we supposed to do nothing? Hamas has sent almost 1,000 rockets into Israel during the cease-fire. Imagine if Canada sent 1,000 rockets into the US.
Stop being anti-semitic and let Israel protect itself from Hamas and Hezbollah (2 groups the UN and US have both labeled as terrorist organizations). Unless, of course, you think it's wise to take sides with the enemy.

It's easy to condemn Isreal when you're sitting in a nice peacful negibourhood, where you get upset because of a barking dog, or someone has trespassed on your upkept lawn. Why don't you try this, move yourself and your family over to Isreal and let's see how comfortable you would fell having rockets landing in your neigbourhood. I'm sure you and your family will sleep peacefully - NOT.

Do you really think you can negotiate, or reason with a suicide bomber, who is looking forward to entering the promise land where there's suppost to be virgins waiting for them? I would like to see you move your family over to Isreal and feel at peace with rocket raining down on you.

Hamas is responsible for the deaths of their citiziens not Israel, they use their civilians as a war shield, with all due respect and sympathy to those civilians if they stopped protecting the military and refused to be used in this way less of them would be dead. Israel have been under attack by Hamas for the last eight years I have not noticed a huge sympathy drive for them and all their dead and maimed and the fact that all normalty has left the Israelly way of life as they have to virtually live underground these people are not part of a military shield just normal civilians that are deliberately being attacked by Hamas so lets get a more balanced outlook on this scenario and stop making the Arabs into martyrs and heroes - they are neither in fact this is another military group that should be arrested and face The Hague alongside Robert Mugabe and his ilk. There is absolutely nothing that Obama can do to change the US approach to Israel. He must honor the wishes of' those' who worked hard to get him to the White House.

Isn't the world so grateful it has Aaron David Miller who knows what to do with Israel. If Israel does this or Isreal does that...we'll see peace in the Middle East. There been people much smarter than him who have tried. If Miller is so smart...fix the Iran nuclear problem. I know the U.S. and Europe won't lift a hand. However, maybe "let's get tough on Israel" can do it.

Israeli air strikes on tunnels in Rafah

Israeli air attacks on the Gaza Strip has resumed after a three-hour truce to allow in humanitarian aid, with border tunnels apparently the main target.

Israeli planes leafleted southern Gaza by day, warning of imminent attacks, and the sounds of war could be heard from the border by nightfall.

Nearly 700 Palestinian and 11 Israeli lives are said to have been lost since the offensive began 12 days ago.

Peace efforts move to Cairo shortly, with an Israeli envoy due in the city.

But Israel is prepared to go even deeper into the Gaza Strip in the coming hours, BBC Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen reports from the Israeli border near Rafah.

Our editor could hear the clatter of Israeli helicopters and the report of at least one explosion from inside southern Gaza late on Wednesday night.

"Because Hamas uses your houses to hide and smuggle military weapons, the IDF [Israel Defence Forces] will attack the area," read leaflets released earlier by the thousand over the Rafah area by Israeli planes.

Unconfirmed reports speak of a tank advance with helicopter support towards Khan Younis, also in the south, shortly after midnight.

Truce options

Israeli security sources have confirmed that senior Israeli defence official Amos Gilad will travel to Cairo on Thursday to discuss ceasefire options.

Let Miller be a role model for Israel and show how peace negotiations with homicidal killers, whose psychotic hatred for Jews is deeply rooted in their religious beliefs, by recommending the USA to make peace with alQaeda, the same ilk as Hamas.
