Its not blaming jews for whining about some rockets that the smart Hamas guys hide next to the innocent arab people that will make world peace. Obama will make world peace because it is change and Obama promised us change. Only mean stupid people would not ralize that jews are trying to make Obama bad by making it harder for Obama. The arabs will like us when Obama makes us go away from Iraq like he said he would.

Obama is smart, he will talk to the guy from Iran who says he will wipe Isreal off the map and that he only wants nukes to make more electricity because oil is cheap in his country and it would be dumb to make electricity with it when you could makes nukes. When Obama talks to him like he said he would then there will be peace in the mideast like thier would be if Israel would quit whining just because there are a few jews being killed by rockets.

It is only a few why does Isreal have to be mean to the arab poeple just because Hamas is smart for putting thier war stuff next to the innocent arab people that the jews are being mean to. If we become muslims like Obama's daddy then the arabs would like us and make oil cheap. When oil is cheap we can afford to invent green energy like Obama said he would and we can all get new good jobs making green energy. The jews are trying to wreck it for Obama by being mean to the arab people next to the war stuff that the smart Hamas put next to them.

Peace cannot be made unilaterally.

What a typical Useful Idiot Aaron Miller is. Muslim terrorists are trying again--as they have for years-- to kill innocent people, and what does Miller recomend?--that we get tough on those being attacked! No doubt his sick inverted morality will appeal to those schooled in the subtle sophistry of Obama-esque nuance and moral equivocation. But for anyone with even a shred of ethical realism and honesty his suggestion will be seen for the lie that it is.

The same should apply to the Kashmir issue between Pakistan & India. The American Foreign policy should be 'JUST'
for both parties. The commercial thinking & benefits should be kept aside for Mr. Obama to play a mediator's role.

Splinteredglass nicely summarized all that is wrong with this country's foreign policy - publicly question Israel in anything it does, including the killing of 500 people (30% of which are children), then you should be fired, castrated, and executed immediately. When did this country become Israeli interests first, American interests second? This country cannot be blind to the actions of its allies; Mr. Miller's article correctly defended Israel's sacrosanct right to defend itself; but he acknowledged the greater problem, that so long as Israel has veto power over U.S. foreign policy, neither the middle easter nor the U.S. will experience total security. How dare you ,Mr. Miller, to try to apply logic and common sense to foreign policy, and more egregious, dare criticize Israel in the slightest way?

When did this country become Israel first, America second? There is nothing wrong with being tough with allies when they are wrong. Unfortunately, Mr. Miller, your article is too sound and too logical for American foreign policy.

Anyone who cares about Israel must be ashamed of what it has done to the Non Jews in their midst. Deeply deeply ashamed to their core. Yes, look at history. Look at it all. Shame.

Israel is only doing what any soverign nation would do in response to attacks against its citizens being launched from a neighboring country which the neighboring country is either unable or unwilling to prevent. How long would Americans want to wait before sending in the Marines if rockets and mortar shells were being fired into southern San Diego from Mexico on a daily basis and the Mexican government refused to do anything about it?

How the Jewish state of Israel can perpetrate a Holocaust on the people whose land they have stolen, is beyond me. "Never again?" Indeed.

This is one of the best articles regarding the MidEast I've read in a while. Actually seems pretty balanced.

Neither Hamas nor Israel are "right." Hamas is deluding itself it it thinks there will be a world without Israel, and it's making life for the Palestinians of Gaza much worse than it would otherwise be.

That being said, for a state that was established as a refuge and homeland for a people that had suffered so much for so long, Israel doesn't seem to show any sympathy for the Arab people (who, by the way, have been there for hundreds of years). A lot of Palestinians live in what pretty much amounts to ghettos while the Israelis bulldoze their homes. I don't support terrorism, but I can understand the rage the Palestinians feel. They have no control over their own destinies.

Gaza needs some kind of hope for its future if Hamas is to change its strategy or lose power. They need a reason to stop building rockets, a chance at a better and more prosperous life. And the destruction happening there now creates no hope.

America needs to stop blindly following Israel's wishes. Israel is far from perfect and we need to stop doing whatever they ask simply because...they're Jewish? A democracy? They are acting in their best interest (which, in the short term at least, is keeping Palestine as week as possible), and that is certainly not fair to the Arabs. But who cares about fairness? If America is involving itself, it needs to act in its own interest, which means peace, which in turn calls for a stable and successful Palestine.

Anyone who belives there can be peace between Muslims and Jews must have their head in the sand. Spend a little tme with either and you will find neither wants peace.. I dont think Obama has any magic wand that can stop the hate that exists between Arabs and Jews. Their spiritual leaders like conflict because it brings attention to their cause. I feel extremely blessed to live in the USA !!
