Hindu families from Pak seek refuge in India
    7 Mar 2009, 2115 hrs IST, PTI

AMRITSAR: Stating that they do not wish to return to Pakistan due to Taliban's tyranny in the tribal areas, a group 35 Hindus, nearly half of them women, from the neighbouring country have crossed over to India and asked the government to allow them to settle in the country.

"We were living in Pakistan under extreme fear due to the domination of a strong group of Taliban who are running a parallel government," Jagdish Sharma, a resident of tribal area near Peshawar in Pakistan, said.

Recounting their ordeal, he said "Hindus and Sikh families are not safe, especially our women. We preferred to migrate in India, at least here in India we know that our families will be safe."

The four families comprising 16 men, 16 women and three children crossed over to India during the last few days through the Attari check post and later went to Delhi where they got a one-year visa and permission to stay in Amritsar.

"We strongly urge the Government of India to allow us to stay here in India permanently, since we don't want to move back in that hell where there is no life security," said Sharma.

Hardwari Lal, resident of Orkzai nearly 180 km from Peshawar, said, "I was running my grocery shop there which was forcibly taken over by the fundamentalists who also took possession of our entire property".

    INDIAN PARLIAMENT
Indian members of Parliament went home last week amid hoots and howls, derided as the sorriest lot ever to disgrace the halls of the world's largest democracy. The 14th Lok Sabha, or People's House, met for only 46 days in the past year???the fewest ever???because of disruptions caused by its many dubious members. One in 10 members didn't participate in a single debate. Eleven M.P.s were expelled for taking bribes. The coal minister was compelled to step down when he was convicted of murder (though he was later acquitted on appeal). And when the opposition called for a confidence vote, several members had to be transported to the People's House from the big house???where two of them are serving life sentences for murder???to participate. As the legislators adjourned last week, House Speaker Somnath Chatterjee wished them good riddance: "You do not deserve one paisa [cent] of public money," he scolded. "I hope all of you are defeated in the next election."

    Double standards of Muslims ...................................................................
Topical for 10th March 2009 Milad-e Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad
    Prophet Muhammad Was Born Here
    By K.D.L. Khan
The birthday celeberations of Prophet Muhammad (b. 570 A.D.) known as Mawlid in Arabic (Eid Milad an Nabi in Urdu) is a term used to refer to the observance of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad and will be on 10th March 2009.
The earliest accounts for the observance of Mawlid can be found in eighth-century Mecca, when the house in which the Prophetwas born, was transformed into a place of prayer by Al-Khayzuran (mother of Harun al Rashid the fifth and most famous Caliph). Public celebrations of the birth of the founder of Islam did not occur until four centuries after his death. It was originally a festival of the Shia ruling class, not attended by the common people, with the first official Mawlid celebrations occurring in Egypt. Down the centuries, in 1910, it was given official status as a national festival throughout the Ottoman empire. Today it is an official holiday in many parts of the world. Among non-Muslim countries, India is noted for its Mawlid festivities. The relics of the Prophet Muhammed are displayed after the morning prayers in the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir at Hazratbal shrine, on the outskirts of Srinagar. Shab-khawani or night-long p

    double standrs ..contd....
But strangely, Saudi Arabia is the only Muslim country where Mawlid is not an official public holiday, as the local powerful orthodox Muslim Wahabi clergy does not approve of celeberating, even the birthday of Islam's founder. They consider the celeberation of Mawlid as an improper innovation and forbid its observance. Although Wahabis agree that the birth of the Prophet was the most significant event in Islamic history, they point out that his companions and the next generation of Muslims did not observe this event.
Here a word about the Wahabi clerics of Islam is necessary. The Wahabis are Saudi Arabia's dominant clerics, who promote a strict narrow interpretation of Islam, observing what they would call the practice of early Islam. They have not allowed preservation of old buildings associated with Islam, even those related to the Prophet, as they fear, that other sects of Muslims will come to see these buildings as blessed and this could lead to polytheism and idolatry.
The actual rise of power by the Wahabis dates from 1932, when King Ibn Saud unified Arabia under his rule. Prophet Muhammad's birthplace in the ancient city of Mecca is as sacred to humanity, as the nativity shrine of Jesus Christ at Jerusalem and the Buddha Janmabhoomi at the town of Lumbini in Nepal. But the millions of Haj pilgrims, who search for it at Mecca are surprised to find that the location of the house where Prophet Muhammad was born in 570 A.D, now lies under an old library which is overshadowed by a giant royal palace and hotel towers!
It appears that in 1936, seventy three years ago, the then ruler of Saudi Arabia King Ibn Saud had the present library built, over the foundations of the house, as a compromise solution to the demand of the Wahabi clerics of Islam, who wanted it obliterate all signs of the ancestral house founder of Islam, on the plea, that the glorification of any memorial, except that of God by the Muslim world would be against Islam, even though it is the house, where the prophet was born and is a memorial him.
Most of the Muslim world is against such an interpretations. In 2006 many institutions like the Raza Academy of India vainly requested the Saudi Arabian Government not to carry out the demolition of whatever was left of the historic house, when news appeared of the destruction of the remnants. But this appeal was not heeded.

    Double standards ..contd....
The US-based Saudi Institute, an independent news gathering group, says that most religious Islamic landmarks have been destroyed since Saudi Arabia was founded in 1932. It cited a 1994 edict by the kingdom's senior council of religious scholars, which ruled that preserving historical buildings might lead to polytheism. The Institute estimated that over the past 50 years,at least 30 historical buildings had been levelled in Mecca and Medina, including the the 1,400 - year-old house of Prophet Mohammed in Mecca. There were appeals to the Unesco, the United Nations Culture and heritage agency, to step in and protect sites in Mecca and Medina. But the UN agency said, that it was helpless to intervene as the Saudi government had not put the cities forward for UN protection. "We are not a law and enforcement entity, we can't intervene unless there are some grounds to interfere," said V???ronique Dauge of the Unesco World Heritage Centre. "It is up to the country to decide and propose what site is to be inscribed on the World Heritage list."
Till the year 2006, some remnants of the old house, like the foundations, were still there in the compound of the library. But that year, the cityscape of Mecca, was redrawn in a US $13 billion (Indian rupees 65000 crores) real estate project development aimed at strengthening the infrastructure and accommodation in the Holy City that receives in influx of 20 million pilgrims during Haj and the ancestral house of Prophet Muhammad vanished from the face of the earth

"""The stories were the same as those from my childhood; they had just broadened their horizons???in addition to the jihadist terror, there were now murders and rapes committed by the Indian security forces, too."" This is what was so confusing for me when I lived in Kashmir. Before going there, I heard a lot and read a lot. I thought I understood who the "enemy" was. Living there, I realized there were no clearly defined 'good guys' and 'bad guys'. The whole situation was insanity for everyone living there. There is a side to mankind we can never understand, never justify, and once witnessed, we can never forget. It is burned into our hearts and minds like a scar from fire. It is there forever. Days before the terror attack in Lahore, the powerful pro-Taliban cleric Sufi Mohammad lashed out at cricket, describing it as a distraction that needed to be curbed.
Tuesday???s attack likely had little to do with cricket or Sri Lanka. Its purpose was to demonstrate to the Pakistani state and civil society the costs of confronting the increasingly-powerful jihadist groups.
But the attack focusses attention on one of the more peculiar preoccupations of the jihadist movement in Pakistan: a loathing of cricket, which elements of the religious right claim is part of a plot to destroy Islam.
In the wake of the 2004 India-Pakistan cricket series, which generated enormous popular goodwill in both countries, the Lashkar-e-Taiba magazine Zarb-e-Taiba set about explaining that the sport was objectionable. The British, Zarb-e-Taiba argued in its April 2004 edition, gave Muslims the bat, snatched the sword and said to them: ???You take this bat and play cricket. Give us your sword. With its help we will kill you and rape your women.???
It is sad, the magazine caustically noted, that Pakistanis are committing suicide after losing cricket matches to India. But they are not sacrificing their lives to protect the honour of the raped Kashmiri women. ???To watch a cricket match, we would take a day-off from work. But for jihad, we have no time!???
By contrast, Zarb-e-Taiba pointed to the case of the Islamists??? arch-foe Israel. Israel, it observed, is a very tiny country. ???[But] It does not play cricket. Therefore, it is progressing. We should throw the bat and seize the sword and instead of hitting six or four, cut the throats of the Hindus and the Jews.???
Zarb-e-Taiba sternly added that the sports of a mujahid are archery, horse-riding and swimming. Apart from these sports, every hobby is un-Islamic.

bomai hartal enters 12 th day
omar assures pobe and punishment to killer indian army soldiers

On February 21, two civilians, Muhammad Amin Tantray and Javid Ahmed Dar, were killed when troops of Army???s 22 Rashtriya Rifles opened fire on youth at Bomai village.
The incident sparked massive protests across the valley.
Soon after the killings, the chief minister had ordered a time-bound magisterial inquiry setting a 15-day deadline for submitting the report.
Sources said that in his report, the outgoing deputy commissioner, Baseer Ahmad Khan, who conducted the inquiry to probe the killing, had indicted the Army for ???killing two civilians without any provocation.???
The report has rubbished the Army claim that there was cross firing. Khan has submitted the report to the chief secretary, S S Kapoor.
In his report, sources said, Khan had asserted that there was ???no cross firing as claimed by the Army.???
???The Army had informed the inquiry officer that the local police post and officer on duty were informed about militant movement in the area. But when the police officer deposed before the inquiry officer, he denied having received any such report,??? sources said. Reports said a senior officer of the Kilo Force, who appeared before the inquiry officer, had claimed militants opened fire on troops using a pistol. But the inquiry officer pointed out that not a single pistol fire cartridge was recovered from the spot, rubbishing the army claim.
In fact, as already reported, all the empties of cartridges seized from the spot of occurrence had been found to be of the same sequence, thus suggesting there was no cross firing.
Despite repeated attempts to reach the chief secretary for his comment, there was no response as he did not pick up the telephone.

The Lahore attack is reported to have involved 12 terrorists. The blogosphere was thick with speculation that the second group was trained to attack the Indian cricket team (which cancelled its tour of Pakistan after the Mumbai carnage), but "settled" for the largely Buddhist (and therefore "kaffir") Sri Lankan team.

Some Pakistani TV hosts, under the benign eye of the Islamic Republic;s new civilian dispensation, vigorously promote such garbage as "kaffir" and "dar al-harb" to foster religious hatred.

In Washington, where Pakistan is now viewed as a terrorist state by reputation if not by designation and headlines are describing it as the new Somalia, Obama referred to a comprehensive review of US policy on the region Washington now calls Af-Pak and said he will be making a series of announcement prior to the Nato summit that immediately follows the G-20 summit next month.
