Although I think homosexuality is wrong and disgusting, people can do whatever they want with there own lives. We all answer for our actions in the end. But as a combat veteran, I can tell you open homosexuality in the military would be a huge mistake. There are people in the military who are obviously, if not openly gay. They are looked at and treated differently. If they are in a combat-arms MOS I guarantee you that no matter how strong unit cohesion may be, if someone openly gay is wounded, there would be soldiers who would think twice about administering aid out of fear of HIV.

As a Corpsman in the Navy, which is the medical department for the Navy all personnel of the Navy is tested for HIV AND ESPECIALLY HOSPITAL CORPSMAN. That not true about your comment, if a person is HIV POSITIVE then that particular person(s) will be counseled and then proper steps are conducted to find who else they have had sexual contact with and this in turn will be report to the nearest CDC if in garrison. And then discharged from the military.

Everyone seems to miss a very important point. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue" is a misnomer as are titles given to loads of legislation. They DO ask, They are forced to tell, and they DO pursue without regards to the intent of the law. The other lie I've been seeing is the rampant use of bible quotations. Leave the religion out of this. Our military is not only composed of only straight white christians, but citizens of all walks of life and all religious beliefs (Atheists too). The bible only serves to provide simple parables for those poor people that are unable to think for themselves, and they tend to cherrypick sections to suit their whims of the moment.

I don't think they should be able to join the military. If you want to be gay that's fine but, pushing that into the service is not a good idea. Going to the military is suppose to make a man out of you, not pushing them in you. Its disgusting & immoral! The Queen under me or rather the atheist. If you don't believe in nothing you'll go for anything. Gays are already get married..which is an abomination to God. Believe a lie and be down! Same sex is not normal at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that were so none of us would be here. Two men nor can two women reproduce..its not natural nor moral its sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In case you don't know, homosexual people have been serving for a very long time. You are completely missing the POINT!

In support of our Troops, we call the sons and daughters of America who serve in the U.S. military "..brave soilders and heroes". They volunteer to put themselves through some of the toughest training the mind and body can take. So it's kind of difficult to grasp the notion that a solider dealing with multiple deployments, transfers between 2 wars and in places of constant battle, would allow him or herself to become distracted from the life & death situations. A well-trained U.S. military officer who becomes pre-occupied with fear & hate towards their fellow troops to the point where a guard is lowered and that troop & unit is put in harms way is a contradiction to said training. It'd be unsettling to think that an openly homosexual solider would be to blame if such a incident occured. If so, then all who support the opposition of 'gays in the military' could use the same "it's a distraction" arguement to oppose women in the military due to the rise of heterosexual rape in the armed forces.

Gays in the military is an open secret, even the Germans have their on Gay issues, consider this, what would you think if two homesexual or lesbians are making out in the trenches , how nice would it be for the morale... "Don't ask don't tell" is a policy that wants to remain neutral as far as military enlistment is concerned, I don't mind having gays around working for the common good, but destroying a military tradition is another thing.

Here's a difinition about Military tradition: In the United States, military tradition is a general term, that can refer to simply a father-son relationship or a much longer, ancestors-long line (which is the normal meaning). It is often described that the Southern United States as a whole have a military tradition, which is represented in the much higher representation of Southerners in the U.S. Military today and throughout the nation's history.

In Europe, military tradition was a principle of the military that evolved out of the Middle Ages' concept of chivalry.
Within Europe, various military traditions developed. In England, military tradition was carried on in regimental lines, with each regiment tracing its own history back. Today with reforms in the British Army many believe that British military traditions are destroyed.

Should we start a new military tradition base on Gays? how about The gays grenadiers! If we start tinkiring about the Unitied States Military tradition, then we are opening a Pandora's Box. Hence you don't say "UNIFORM" for nothing, and further more we do have Gays in the military, but it's an open secret.

I am a recently retired Air Force member and do not support Obama's decision on letting gays serve openly in the military, first when did he ever serve in the military? How does he know how this will effect unit morale? He and all the other professional politicians that have never served a day in the military should stay out of military business, I kknow this is not how our country was founded but alot has changed since then. This is only my personal opinion but the professional politicians that have never served a day in the military should not be given a say so in military affairs. I know I myself and many others would not have stayed in and served if gays would have been able to freely and openly serve which the military would have lost many good people to a decision that should be left in military hands.

Gay's in the military, like this is something Bill Clinton found about. Here's a news flash: There have been gays in the military as long as there has been a military - anywhere.

  • Posted By: yesenia25 @ 01/08/2009 11:49:47 AM

Yes gays are to precious to risk they are the only real men around if you actually think about it,
    1.gays are honest ,
    2. arent afraid to confront the world,
3.they feel compfortable in their own skin
    4. are very protective, and not only do they take care of themselfs but there partners also in looks, emotionally, and physically why do you think they are so happy all the time, that were the word gay came from in the first place? back in the 50's remember. etc
i could go on and on. Why do you think women always say it even in hollywood !
"All the good ones are either gay or married"
So for all you men aout there put them pants on and man up your making the gays look better than you!
Gays should have a right to fight in the war. The military is a job and at a job you dont have teapartys to discuss about your self,No you go to the military and do your job and dont bring your work home with you simple as that. lets be professionalls people.

"Why is it, it can take years for a gay person to come out, but when they finally do the whole world is supposed to be ok with it? I don't necessarily agree with hiding your sexuality....how awful to have to lie about who and what you are. But at the same time I think in general people would be more accepting of it if it weren't shoved down our throats. Why can't a gay person just live, and just discuss their lover or just be gay in the same way a straight person would. When I introduce myself to someone, I don't include the information that I am straight, I don't have stickers on my car telling everyone I am straight, and I don't march in parades, so why do gay people have to do these things?"

They "have" to do these things to make sure that others struggling with their identity know they aren't alone. When being gay stops being "abnormal", then they won't have to march or proclaim their sexuality any more.

  • Posted By: kenang @ 01/08/2009 1:16:04 PM

Allow gays, and let the homophobes get out of the military. Good riddance to let the hateful out, they shouldn't be allowed to fight for the constitution, since they don't seem to believe in it.

  • Posted By: kerryk1976 @ 01/08/2009 1:16:01 PM

Really? Do we really want to do this? It does not make a difference if someone is gay or straight. Its not going to change the way they serve their country. I served in the Militery for 3 years as an Openly Gay Man and never once was I treat any differently then a straight soldier. I still did all the same work and same long hours as everyone else. I never once had any issues with an fellow soldiers. In fact they appreciated the fact that I was out. It was out in the open and there were no issues. Any man or woman gay, lesbian or streaight. Should have the right to defender their country and not have to hide who they are.
Whoever is so worried about Gays being Judged by God. Well then let us be judged by God when it is our time. And yes, You too will be Judged. Moved on with your life and do something good for a change and stop bringing so much pain into this world. There is nowhere in the Bible that says God needs your help. In fact It does say God loves all his Children. It does not say God only loves all his straight Children.

I don't believe that there is going to be this huge rush by gay people to join the military even if they allow it. I served in the military for 22 years and yes we knew that certain people were gay, but we did not turn them in nor did we bother them about it. Of course that was the Air Force in the 1970s. I then joined the Army as an Infantry Officer (combat arms). Women are not allowed to serve in the Infantry and neither should gays. In the infantry, there is no time to be worrying about if one of your men is not doing his job because he is worried about his lover. It will not work. Also, can one imagine if Steve and Mike are in the same squad and like each other. Then one of them has to be moved out of the squad to another squad, maybe to another platoon or even out of the company. You depend on the people that you have to do training and then go to war. I agree with alowing gays in the service but not the infantry just like we don't allow women to serve in the infantry.

*FOR ADULT EYES ONLY* Thisi s in comment to everyone on here who is bashing the beliefs of Christians. You know what cracks me up? Is that everyone on here who is for gays serving in the military or homosexual's lifestyles, are putting down the Christians, because of our moral stand (God's stand on homosexuality). When in fact Christians are not the only ones who have this belief. Muslims and Catholics also share in this belief as well. Though people are quicker to embrace those who are Muslim, when Muslims will die for and kill for their beliefs. I would like to see you go to their country and speak of homosexuality...you will be killed. Christians are the only ones who are persecuted for our beliefs because we come in the name of Yeshua (Jesus the Messiah)...and YES, I'm also a Jew and I am a Christian and I do not agree with the sin of homosexuality in or out of the U.S. military. I don't care if a man wants to pump another man in the buttocks or a woman wants to do whatever it is she does with another woman. It is not natural people. IT IS OBVIOUS, JUST BY OUR PHYSICAL BODIES AND THE WAY THEY ARE WONDERFULLY MADE, THAT GOD MADE WOMAN FOR MAN. I know that is was not meant for a man to ejaculated inside another man's behind. History shows how God destroys cities for this abomination, yet history always has a way of repeating itself. Some might think that this is a bit much to post, but I think it's a bit much for those of us who have to put up with this on the internet, on television, and our daily lives. It's pushed in our faces, it's pushed into our kid's schools at young ages, and through the media..and no one thinks about whether or not it is offensive to those of us who are offended by all of that. Just like you might read this post and say "that is not right to post something like that! (because of that little bit of morality still left in your spirit). Homosexuality is also immoral. But I guess that the only things now days that are immoral are those things which you all allow to line up with your own lives. As long as it doesn't interfere with your lifestyles, then it is OK in your heads. Interesting.....

There are now and always have been gays and bisexuals in every county's military. In times of combat they have fought fiecely and with distinction. For example two military lkeaders quickly come to mind: Alexander the Great and arguably, David, of Goliath fame. Isn't it time we respected people for their character and example, as in our brave military, instead of stereotypes?

  • Posted By: ta2t2o @ 01/08/2009 1:01:43 PM

As our military allows persons of any religious persuasion to serve as openly as heterosexuals and does not allow discrimination on the basis of religious affiliation or lack of religious affiliation for that matter, then any of these arguements here that reference "The Bible" or what "God says" are irrelevant. I'm offended by all of these Christians trying to espouse their religious agenda on everyone. Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Mormons, Scientologists etc. all are allowed to serve openly in the military as are Atheists, Agnostics, Witches, and Satanists. When you say "the bible says" or "God says", to a number of these people in these categories - that arguement means nothing since it holds no bearing where military policy decisions are made. Sorry - as much as you'd like to believe we have a Christian Army, it's an Army free to practice any religion it likes or not to practice religion at all.

    • Posted By: musicmaker60 @ 01/08/2009 1:14:13 PM

#1 - in the original Greek, the word that King James started to translate at "homosexual" was actually a word for "male prostitute". Since the English language didn't have a separate word for male prostitude, King James substitued "homosexual" which are two very different things! I would be highly offended if the word "prostitute" was tranlated as "woman," or "heterosexual" and this persistant translation error is no different.
#2 - we are not talking about people who are joining a monastery or convent; soldiers do not sign up for service to display their religious piety and people don't seem terribly concerned about them fornicating. We even have service men and women of other religions or no religion at all, so "Christian ethics" is not a prerequisite to military service.
#3 - My Bible says "For God so loved the WORLD - not Christians only, not heterosexuals only - but the WORLD - everybody. I believe that if we Christians would put asside our out hate and predjudice and actually be "Christ-like" then these issues that we obsess over might actually be put back into perspective instead of being the blown out of proportion monsters that they are. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength, and love your neighber - whether he be black, white, Muslim, gay, straight, or whatever - as yourself" were declared by Jesus to be the 2 greatest commandments on which all of the law and the prophets are based. Do that, and you have done well.

Boy did you open up a can of worms. We can all dream of a perfect would that fits our lifestyle to a tee. The fact is that there have been and are now members of all lifestyles in service of the worlds organizations since the beginning of time. We really do not need this distraction at all. Do you think that if someone checks the box on any form that declares that they are gay that there uniform will have a G on it, so the S's can stay away. Our military has been evolving for all of the time it has existed, during the Civil war we had units made up of Blacks who served with valor, during the 2sd world war we had units made up of Japanese who also served with valor and so on, all of these unites also had gays in them and they also served with valor. Let it go , let them be who they are, let them serve there country and let receive what is do them as VETERANS.

I am to judge with richious judgment and because i have obeyed the gospel of Jesus i have no sin in Gods eyes i have repented of my sin and i live godly today Gays that are in sin living togther whatever can get out of that sin and repent you will die in your sins and so will anyone else who is living in sin. Gods grace only covers those who are repentant. That means you don't do that anymore. Now if you slip up and Honesty repent Gods grace covers that But don't think you can do whatever you want and God's gona just say oh well he's trying or she you must stop your sin and repent .

As an active military member of over 24 years, I'm not sure how I feel about the new policy change yet. I will accept (not necessarily like) and enforce policy as set by my CNO, Joint Chiefs and the Commander in Chief- that is my job. The days a majority of our politicians having served our country, are few and far between. It would be nice if they did, having shared some of our experiences to make judgements and policy. The time to adjust for this change will be painful regardless of what civilian 'norms' and thoughts are. Don't pass judgement on Military though processes unless you have walked in our 'boots'.

I am straight non homophobic. I am retired from the military after 30 years. I as well as all other service members have most likely served with, supervised, been supervised and probably even roomed with a gay person. There have been some highly decorated gay vets. I would have a problem rendering first aide to a known gay person because of a higher probability of contracting HIV or even AIDS. I would have a problem sharing sleeping quarters and shower facilities with a person that is openly gay. I think the first time I would be showering and something happened would end my career. Gay people are most likely hard working honest people. Other than the above mentioned I have no problems with gays. They are human beings. I am of the belief that what I don???t know won???t hurt me. Lets keep a persons sexuality a secrete. MY GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR SERVICE MEMBERS.
