It's time for the military to change again. Who someone sleeps with in there home behind close doors is nobodies bussines, and should not preclude anyone from serving in the military.

How sad that we are in 2009 and still having problems of acceptance and TOLERANCE among ourselves
How sad that the ones that fell most threatened with others people's choices are the ones against
How sad that we a POTENCY that went to the Moon still keep hung up on the erroneous and biggot ideas of the past
How sad is that we as a nation glorify ourselves of being cosmopolitan...and instead we are still facing racism and biggotry...and hate crimes...
How sad that we pride ourselves on being so up-to-date and send our kids to travel but we don't learn nor the kids of
any of the cultures and places they visit.
Hopefully this is the dawn of a new era. Hopefully we will mature and we will learn to live among others and be secure and grown up enough to accept ourselves and others and stop the silly thinking that kept us killing, hanging, linching, and torturing others for being different...
I pray for love, pray for justice, pray for understanding
And we AMERICA are about the diff colors, races, creeds, languages, cultures....this is what AMERICA is all about
right?
With love
I am a openly gay marine... my unit has no problems with it... To them, I keep the work... work... my personal life stays at home... when you think of gay... you think of parades and sex and running around being promiscuous (thanks Nelly Furtado Lol)... but not all of us are that way... my boyfriend of 3 years is active navy... we both have served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan... and most people in the military don't care... we dont do PDA or anything but we are always together... cause we have respect for the fearful and the haters... and trust when i say... homosexuality and choice is never put in the same sentence.. unless its "homosexuality ISNT a choice..." you cant blame anyone for being gay, just like you can't blam someone for being white, or female... i am gay... im white.. im male... not my fault... who would choose to be a minority?! No offense to anyone who reads this but come on... seriously... anyways before i get off track, unless you have a sexual deviant int he showers you aint gonna get molested... and you get stared at while walkin around in bathing suits or just walking on the streets... its human nature to be curious... not everyone is out to jump on you and your bone... IF SOMEONE chooses to give their life to this country... gay, straight, black, white, male, female, christian, wiccan, jewish, arab, protestant... etc... then they should be allowed to be who they are... no shame... no hiding... and in quote of the great Stan Lee... nuff said!
I didnt say I was going to get molested in the shower u ignorant grunt but I would prefer not to have to wonder why some *** who looks like a man with breasts is turning back and forth trying to see all the pretty girls in the shower rather than washing her ass !!!!! It happened way to many times and it was disgusting.
Thank you for serving your country. My son is gay and decided not to go into the air force because of this issue.
Hopefully one day we can get passed all of this. Some day this country will mature, someday...
I'm sorry but I currently know three men in the military that are gay. Two in the Airforce and one in the Army. All have served the country and done tours in, Iraq. Two of them choose to live by "don't ask don't tell" but that's only because some people can't get past themselves and deal with it. The third is black and gay and open about it. None of them flaming, none of them any different with their relationships then the other males are with their girlfriends. Of course a few people have issues with the open one but most people in his unit don't care. He doesn't hit on his peers and he is a fun great guy. I first met him when my cousin and some friends came to visit while on leave. He is like everyon else and proud to serve his country. It's extremely immature to assume all a gay man would want to do is hit on his comrads and worry about his bf... I know a lot of guys who freak out about their gfs while deployed and let that consume them and I know woman who can do their jobs and not let it affect their work. Grow up people. Not every gay wants your @$$.
People who are bringing God into this should think about Jesus' messages. After all God should treat everyone equally so therefore he should love them no matter what... nd if yout hink being gay is a disease or some sort of illness than would God discriminate them just because they are no 'perfect'... NO. Get real and if you cannot face the modern world han mybe you should go and segregate yourself rather then segregating people because of who they are attracted to ...
Everyone is created by the same God. Homosexuals and lesbians are born the way they are as surely as heterosexuals are born the way they are. It is not an affliction nor is it a chosen way of liife. To deny them the right to fiight for and serve their country, to marry, or any other right is nothing short of bigotry and should not be tolerated.
GOD TALKED ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY ALL OVER THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT
1 Corinthians 6:9 (Whole Chapter)
Or do you not know that the unrighteous [Or wrongdoers] will NOT inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: [1 Corinthians 15:50; Gal 5:21; Eph 5:5; 1 Tim 1:9; Heb 12:14; 13:4; Rev 21:8; 22:15] neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, [The two Greek terms translated by this phrase refer to the passive and active partners in consensual homosexual acts]
1 Timothy 1:10 (Whole Chapter)
the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, [That is, those who take someone captive in order to sell him into slavery] liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to [2 Tim 4:3; 1 Timothy 6:3; 2 Tim 1:13; Titus 1:13; 2:2] sound [Or healthy] doctrine,
ANYBODY WHO PARTAKES OF HOMOSEXUALITY OR BELIEVES IN IT THEY WILL BE JUDGE BY GOD - FOR NOT OBEYING HIS WORD.......CASE CLOSED.....................
If that is the case, then why do they have to be judged here by you?
If that is the case, then why do they have to be judged here by you?
Please take your GOD spewing crap somewhere else! This has nothing to do with GOD and quite frankly there is no GOD because GOD would not let this war or any war happen. So please stop, it is offensive to people who are gay like myself. You practice what you practice and let us live our lives. And one more thing, I don't think your GOD would be happy about you offending other human beings!!!!!
Regarding scripture, it was written by people.....not God.
The privacy of individuals is sacred to all sexualities, so as hsitory will prove, being gay has nothing to do with being a good or bad soldier. Throughout history remartkable battles have been fought with homosexuals fighting side by side with heterosexuals. This gay thing is a matter of biology and genes RELIGION has nothing to do with it! The comments in this are revealing the problems reliogion does not fix in we human beings, fear of the unknown. May Giod help us!
You Americans provide countless hours of 'fishbowl' entertainment, or to put it another way, if you were a siamese fighting fish faced with a mirror beside your bowl I could watch for hours as your fought against yourself until you exterminated your own exsistence. As an outsider looking in it is no wonder to the rest of the world that the once great and mighty America is fast becoming a super-power of the past.
Historically, and still the prevelant practice of the day, your military services have recruited and preyed on the weak, poor, uneducated, marginalized members of your societywho lack skills and or identity. They do so as it is easier to pyshcologically break down and rebuilt these people into the military machine the us army thinks it needs. Unfortunately those poeple who lack education and world experience have a tendancy to be both ignorant and close minded justifying their existence and values on a beleif system as archiac as the dinasours.
So back to the question should gay people be allowed to openly service in the military? I ask why would they want to be associated with an organization that is to this day woefully sexist, racist, homophobic, and elitist? I have had the pleasure of knowing and loving some wonderful homosexual men and women who not surprising do not fit into the strict mold of the us military war machine. And that is just it. It is a war machine that does not choose to look for alternatives to death and destruction. rather justifies its position in the world as right and fair. When will America learn there are many ways to solve conflict that do not involve guns and bombs? I could tell you what those alternatives are but that would be spoonfeeding you and I would rather you do the actual research yourselves.
As a atheist and a liberal I made the choice long ago not to follow any particular religion but I find you 'god fearin' christians to be especailly offensive. As a christian is it not your job to live YOUR life through christ? In fact does Eph. 4:32 not say "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ forgave you" ? in other words you are not christ do not do his job and live your own damn lives and mind your own damn business.
Hey loser -- it is our business -- read Lev 18:22 and Lev 20:13.
Your ridiculous fables doesn't make anyone else's business your own.
Wanker.
While it is certainly your right to disagree and take offense to the U.S. military, I ask myself a question...are you a U.S. citizen? If you are, please know that myself, my wife, and countless thousands of others fought for your right to say what you just said...if you are or are not a U.S. citizen, then please know that our Lord and Messiah died for your right to say what you just said...since you like quoting the Bible, I have one for you, (John 19:30); '"It is finished", and bowing His head, He gave up His spirit'. And with that, you have the freedom to say and feel however you choose.
do all gays have flat feet which in old days would deter them from being accepted. if not them those who want to serve THEIR country serve their country. as far as locker rooms go, turn around, its just like gym class, turn around. a good honest gay person is not going to make a pass at you, they are not there to find a love, they are there as you are there, to fight for our country and our countrys rights. go USA
if they do not try to make a pass then there not human.annie
If you are not going to let homosexuals in the military, then you shouldn't let women. If all you want are "good upstanding conservatives" then this country is in a world of hurt. The majority of people in the military are there because they want to serve their country. Male, Female, sexual proference should not be an issue.
I'm more concerned about the women my son serves with than the "gays".
I agree with you they should be concentrating on the adultery that goes on during their deployment and how some of those women serving sell their bodies to their fellow soldiers while they are deployed...thats an issue that needs to be dealt with not someones sexual orientation...
Why is it even a topic we need to discuss.. Its become a sad state of affairs when we can't see people for who they are and not what they are. Whether straight or gay, both will do the job they need to and those that can't deal with it need to grow up and accept the fatcs of life that gay people can go to war or support the military just as well as a straight person. It seems what I have seen is that the younger generations are more able to except this and are not bothered by it. Has anyone ever wondered how many gay people are currently in the armed forces and no one knows and everyone is doing thier job so whats the difference. Maybe real peace begins with us by treating each other equal no matter their sexual preference or race.
I see nothing wrong with it, They are human too and they are serving our country, Although it should be kept private like anyother sexual relations, let it go let them in as long as they do their job.
asI read the first few comments I felt proud that my fellow Americans have grown to the point of seeing best a persons private sexual orientations and had also began to understand that being gay doesnt condem you to hell as a lot of narrowminded christians want to preach. Then I read a few more. My PRIDE turned into sadness and disbelief that an AMERICAN believes that it should matter if a person is GAY and wants to join the military! They are willing to join the military and fight for YOUR fredom and risk thier lives protecting a country that you wish to live in freely.. yet you want to turn them away?!?!?! i DO NOT believe in violence of anyt type... and Military actions scared the HELL out of me for the people that are involved! BUT... I appreciate that they are there protecting me and my children from the misguided ones.. you know the ones that hate America just because we are a free coutry and they dont agree with how we live! and I bet that the same people on here Screaming abt the gays are the same people saying if you dont like our country then stay out... you cant have Your freedom and keep freedom from the gays...
In the military men live as brothers and women live as sisters, in a very real way. Men live in close quarters, and women are supposed to be segregated from those close quarters. Likewise, military women live in close quarters and men are supposed to be segregated from it. The military operates on a code of honor. In a career that involves violence and strong passion in defence of life, liberty and justice, that honor is paramount in keeping the strong tendencies from destroying the humanity of the soldiers. That code of honor involves respecting each comerade as a person. Would a married man feel respected if he was obliged to sleep in close quarters or even shower with a woman that is not his wife? How then can we retain respect for persons when a married person is obliged to sleep in close quarters or even shower with someone of the same sex that could be physically attracted to them? These are things to consider in such a decision as this.
Absolutely not. Having gays in the military puts our men and women who are not gay in an uncomfortable position. It makes it harder for them to serve because they are not gay and have to worry about whether or not the gays are making comments about them or staring at them all the time. All this will do is one make a lot of people not want to join up causing our military to be short and possibly having to implement a draft and two cause major problems within our military. Gays should not be allowed period whether they are showing it openly or not. For people who are not gay seeing it is disgusting to them. I know a lot of people in the military who oppose gays and when they find out that someone is gay they deal with it. Is that what our military needs? A war within itself? I don't think so. If Obama thinks it necessary to allow gays in then they need to have certain things they cannot do. Such as not being allowed to work on a submarine and go into combat so our straight men and women who are doing the right thing can concentrate on what they???re doing without having to worry about the gays around them.
How about a military in the 21st century?
Homosexual people have been serving for a long time. You are more afraid of a gay person than the enemy??? Wow, we really need to revamp our military...
Why not if they can cowboy up let them go for it. I don't think they have enough balls to do so,but let go for it.
how many thousands already have? i was a recon soldier in the Canadian military and i wasn't the only gay there...
I don't understand the problem. I served for 20 years and people have got to grow up. The military can be a tolerant place. Homosexuals and bisexuals have always been with us and we are losing good people because of the current policy. We need to move forward and accept these people into ALL aspects of our society - including the military. They are as able and trustworthy as any who serve, sometimes even more so. I would not be surprised if there were arabic linguists who wanted out badly enough to at least pose as gay - their deployment rates were extremely high even in the 1990s!
if the military starting drafting men and woment they wouldn't care if the person was gay or not. As of now the military has a choice of who they can choose from. One day might come when the military will require more troops than they have enlisted. The military can't have it both ways. being choose when there is enough troops and taking anyone that can hold a weapon if they run short on the enlisted troop. At that point in time being gay will not matter to the military. I served in the Army in the early 80's when there was women in what used to be a man's world. They should treat everyone equal.
As long as gay's and lesbians do not have equal rights there is not a seperation of church and state. Again people are being force fed religion. Sorry I guess we don't have freedom of religion like we thought...
