Don't get me wrong, Im not gay myself but I don't see any problem with a gay person being in the military. If their were a fire fight going on, and you had 6 men in your unit and 4 of them were gay It damn sure wouldn't matter to me if they were gay or not ! The primary objective is to protect and serve our country, and that's all that matters !!! Just because a gay person chooses that way of life doesn't change the way they fight or the ability to protect the unit.

having family members who are gay and lesbian i have a little more tolerance for their choice of lifestyle. And in all honesty whether it be choice or genetics or whatever, if that person is willng so sign on the dotted line and fight for their country and help preserve the freedoms we all have and enjoy everyday why must we criticize them. They arent asking for special treatment and i hope thats not what they are asking for cause hate to tell you they wont get it. Now as far as the policy goes i guarantee u there are thousands of gay and lesbian women and men in the military now and when your overseas and ur in the middle of the desert with the people who have worked and sweated and learned as much as you and right by ur side are you serously gonna hold their sexual preference against them when they could be the ones taking a bullet for you or pulling your butt out of what looks lke an impossible situation? Im not saying for them to be comng into the military and announcing to everyone in the world your gay but have a bit of military bearing and keep it to yourself and dont air your dirty laundry because many will treat them different and thats not something anyone can change. as a straight person u dont want everyone in the wolrd to know all your personal aspects of your life it shouldnt be any different if your gay. the dont ask dont tell rule should be an unspoken rule. if your willing to take the harrassment then so be it, announce it, if not keep it under wraps. as for me either way i dont care what you are.

This is crazy: all these gay and lesbian citizens are ready to give their lives for this country and people here are acting like this is an issue of 'trust'!!! This is why religions need to be contained. They do nothing but promote fear, bigotry and hatred for no reason. I recently saw the movie MILK and it brought home the issue because the religious groups have always been hateful and constantly trying to destroy the lives of gay citizens, to destroy their homes and families, their dignities and even drive them out of their workplace like they tried doing in the seventies in California.

On top of that the bigots who cast the first stone in California last year during the elections, the Mormons, lack the moral authority to be preaching about monogamous marriage because their own founder Joseph Smith was a polygamist and the bodies of many of his wives and concubines are with him in his graveyard. America needs to wake up and speak truto to the religious groups for once and all. This is not going to be a theocracy! We are a country with a secular democratic tradition !

homophobia is an ongoing issue that needs to end. letting a person an individual stand up for their country that is gay should be allowed to speak of it. i believe that you are who you are, dont let the bible tell you who you are. im not against religion or anything but i do believe in freedom of speech and i think that a gay in the military should be allowed to say thats the way they are and all the power to them for wanting to serve their country.

I feel as it says, It may take time and that one would have to do research because this change could be good and bad. now It's a great thing that Obama is going to be President because We all live here and serve Our Father in Heaven Freely but they also fought for Freedom Period. This country was founded on Change and this is one the will take time but, it could be worse. I feel that if they chose to serve openly they can because there are many young and old men and women that walk their daily lives not open about there sexuality everyday and I've found that when a person knows that someone is gay "In my Generation" They are easier to deal with it because it's not a secret but it could hurt some people Gay Marrages I don't agree with but being yourself I do because the gay man or woman that serves in the Military is also fighting for your freedom that you are here enjoing so why complain the opions of the service men and women are the only ones that truely Matter....

They have served for years with honor. If they want to serve their country I appreicate that effort. Let them alone!

There are gay members in the military right now and they have performed their duties with honor and respectability. They don't flaunt their sexuality and they do their jobs. If someone knew of a gay service person and turned them in, they would be considered just as guilty by association. DON'T ASK,DON'T TELL remains good policy and should remain as is.

I am serving as an Army officer. If open practice of homosexuality is permitted and endorsed in the military, I will resign my commission as soon as I can. As a leader, I cannot instruct my Soldiers that homosexuality is acceptable or that immorality is just about people being people. Jesus Christ rules over the nations (The United States belong to Him), and His law states that homosexuality is sin. Neither the U.S. Military or any other institution can pronounce good what Christ has made evil.

I agree with jjones. There have always been Gays in the military & unless they're looking for attention, they don't need to advertise. I served in an Airborne unit in Italy in the 70s. Our mission was to secure a dropzone for the 82nd if the Soviets ever attacked Europe. I recall hearing at the time that the life expectacy of the unit was between 24 & 72 hrs. We had a few rumoured to be gay soliers in the unit & frankly, at the time I didn't care. If a man has got the guts to stand & fight along side of me ,I don't care if he's gay. That having been said, the "don't ask, don't tell" thing has worked quite well for the last couple of hundred years and changing it does'nt serve to do anything but give someone the ability to say "Hay, look at me, I'm gay". So what? If you want to serve, shut up & do it. There are a lot of other things that G.I.'s keep their mouths shut about lest they be discharged as well.

The only thing is will they ge able to shot "Stright" ?
