Don’t Ask Too Fast

When our young people are giving their lives to protect the rights of gays, perhaps its time to let gays die for the rights we have preserved for them. Make discipline harsh for gays that impose their will on non gays and just as harst for gay harassment. I agree with Gen Pace that homosexuality is immoral. As Pres Obama leads us into a more decadent age of immorality, perhaps strait blood will not be the only blood spilt. We all have the right to defend our beliefs and I have served to protect those rights. I don't  envy Admiral Mullen's position. But, as llong as we are wiilling to toss aside the Bible and make excuses for disobedience for the sake of gain, then those being protected need to do their part. Those wishing to serve that have never stared down the barrel of agun, been shot at, or put in harms way will one day appreciate that they were excluded from the glory of dying for their country. I too have apprehension at showering with gays, but they too are not after all of our bodies! Change is either acceptable or abominable. Either we make lastiing legislation to accept gays as equals on all grounds, or we don't. Do we decide morallistically or politically?

I feel if you are openly gay in the military it can cause conflict of interest between everyone. At the same token i feel that military personal should NOT have to HIDE their sexual orientation due to the fact that people are HOMOPHOBIC for real.... thats lying to themselves and one thing everyone should stand for is BE TRUE TO YOURSELF... yes granted i feel that a openly gay man is going to have it way worse then a openly gay woman. Because most people see military men as guardains of our country they cant love the same sex. But itsn't that true to just regular people... society can accept a gay woman cause they feel thats sexy but two men thats nasty for real im not in the military i was married to a man in the U.S. Army and even he was very homophobic but is okay with his ex-wife being gay now...........hmmmm.....I say that if you are gay stand fast to your beliefs be who you are one day we all hope that THEIR IGNORANCE will end!! Regardless if they gay they shouldn't get kicked out the military.......HOMOSEXUALS can DEFEND OUR COUNTRY AS WELL AS ANY HETEROSEXUAL CAN!!!!! I cant believe how people can pass judgement and be prejudice against a homosexual but be real quick to be in their feelings when someone judges them or passes racism their way.... FOR REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can we all grow up.... and accept people for who or what they are.......... it all boils down to peoples IGNORANCE..............REAL TALK........................

wow i did not realize how homophobic americans can be. its an ongoing issue that needs to end. if they are gay and want to serve the country i say all the power to ya, you should not have to hide who you are inside or out.

This issue is as relevant as sexual assault in the military and Dod moved fairly quickly for a large institution in order to implement policy directly impacting victim care and reporting options for active duty military. Although the two issues are not the same in regards to moral viewpoints, it does demonstrate the instituitions ability to implement changes and mold a culture. I work for the military and the majority of people I work and live with are inline with the general population. There will be some reprecussions, because we will always allow divergent beliefs in our country and that results in some people not "being happy" all the time. I do believe the reprecussions will be far less devistating than the article above implies and that a minority of people will respond negatively. The reality is we have always had gay and lesbians in the military...serving with honor and valor...and we will continue to have. The issue is do we allow them the same freedoms heterosexual military members have, or do we "just say" that we are a free country?

If you are a man that likes women, is it alright to have women in your unit so when you take showers you are all doing so at the same time in the same place? It would be nice for a non-homosexual man, but that would never happen. It would enrage women's groups. To have men staring at their nakedness and the stress level of knowing you could be sexually violated is a substantial deterrent to unit camaradarie.

If you are a man who likes women and are taking a shower with men who like men, how is it different than in the first secenario. Men would not want to be gawked at in the shower by Homosexual men anymore than women would by men. The old saying, in the army, if you don't drop the soap, you don't have to worry about getting poked. Men knew there may be a homosexual in amongst them, but it wasn't in the forefront of your mind.

The early Greeks had units in their armies that were homosexual. They fought just as hard as non-homosexual, but were kept apart as a unit. Maybe that what the military could do, as long as everyone was afforded the same conditions of service. Or just leave it alone and don't ask, don't tell.

I am amazed that the military has separate rules than general society. Most corporate offices would base a judgment of competence on sexual orientation so why should the military? I believe that the majority of people serving in the military are intelligent people wise enough now to fall into the ignorant stereotypes surrounding ???gay??? people. I believe the only issue supporting the ???don???t ask??? policy revolves around the theory that all gay people are attracted all people of their same sex and by default would likely act sexually toward anyone of their same sex; thereby disrupting productivity. I hope that in 2009, most of the world has crawled out of the 50???s and realized that that entire assumption is beyond ridiculous and if we are still going to encourage that assumption, then we need to make the military either all male or all female because it is possible that in a coed military that the men are hitting on the women and vice versa; thereby impeding the success of the military. Honestly, is this really an issue?!?!?! Let???s move on people.

I am a Bible believing Christian and believe that homosexuality is a sin. I believe that we should not hate or despise the person, but rather pray for their sin. I believe that a homosexual has every right to defend this great country of ours, but their personal lifestyle choice should not be made public in the military. Our servicemen need to be totally focused on military issues and training without worrying about what their "battle-buddy" is doing next to to them.

I served 28 years in the military and see no reason why openly gay men and women shouldn't be allowed to serve. The only way to enlighten the military and push them beyond their homophobic paradigm is to learn acceptance just as they had to learn acceptance of blacks, hispanics and women in the past. This institutional discrimination needs to stop!
