    The article says:

???As a religious matter, says Rauf, what happens to the remnants of the hijackers is not of great consequence. Muslims believe that "all souls will be judged" by God, he says. "What determines the state of your soul is your actions while you were alive." The problem of what to do with the hijackers, Rauf says, "is not so different from Mumbai, where the Indian Muslim community rejected the terrorists because they did not regard them as Muslim and would not give them a Muslim burial. My conviction is that the American Muslim community would reject the 9/11 hijackers." Even so, he believes that the remains should be returned [to Saudi Arabia]. It would be, he says, an example of "the highest morals. This is what makes America great."

OK. Here is my suggestion. Keep enough of the remains for DNA identification. Take the rest; mix with 100 pounds of ash from the World Trade Center. Then a U.S. plane can fly over and sprinkle it on Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

To Abandonship, Who is judging anyone in this article? Your reaction reads like someone who has not read, or fully understood the point of this piece.

An El Al 747 crashed into an apartment block in Amsterdam in 1992,the results were not unlike that at the pentagon.I was surprised the damage and casualties were not far worse.

Contact their families to pick-up the ashes and arrest them all for questioning to determine whomever else was involved in 9/11. Those who come for the ashes will be a vital source of intelligence and should be monitored for future actions of Arab family members who tend to wallow in their indignation and ultimately commit acts of vengence. It's in their blood since Biblical times and will never change.

Leave them where they are, in limbo for eternity, forgotten in a Gov't vault, as the article says, unnamed, unwanted and unburied they deserve nothing from America, not even a return to their families for proper burial. Why would they expect anything from a country they hated so much? And why should our Country do anything for them?

Halima, the answer to your questions is: Because America is better than what the terrorists offered. Would you have us become like them?

Yes we are better and serving up a just punishment for horrific acts is not the same as perpetuating those acts. Get off your high horse no one thinks your special.

They should be burried, not too deep, on a hog farm. As far as the 92 virgins, there is a reason they cover the women up and there is also a reason they will be virgins... big, hairly, ugly ones.

I hate to ask... how much is being spent on this? Are these efforts still going on? Can the victims families honestly say they would feel better with a DNA match of a bone fragment? It won't bring back anyone. I hate what happened, and I condemn the perpetrators, as any real human should. But we are over seven years into this tragedy, I hope the victims families have found some peace, I can't relate to how they feel, and I don't want to seem insensitive. But I believe in letting the innocent dead rest in peace. I agree, the hi-jackers will burn in eternity for their cowardly acts.

You're right, JayHam. They had in mind about 92 hot virgins (a misnomer if I ever heard one), but got the other heat. The one that you said, like burning in hell for an eternity. That's probably as big a fallacy as the virgins, but we'll just have to wait to find out. That information is just not available on earth. That's probably why we guess so badly.

One of the ingredients in dog food is bone meal, check at any WalMart. Just grind up the remains and take it to the nearest dog pound. I can think of no better end than for them and their kind to end up as dog crap.

I believe its now a meaningless effort as the fragments are too small, too ruined and too scattered. I do understand and respect the emotion of those who lost their beloved ones. We must move on.
Those who did such immorality would be punished surely on the day of judgement by God. But lets not keep any hatered to any one or any specific community. Cause this will just create problem more and more and spoil our peace!

Another complete waste of hard-earned tax dollars. Why cannot these remains have been disposed of properly at the time of the attack, like any other crime of war? What is this obsession with the microscopic remains of loved ones? They are gone, tragically. Must we forever live in the past and not move on? They live with us now, only in our memories. Time immemorial, that is how it has been for survivors of those left behind. Please let us move on.

Once the remains of the hijackers are identified and stored separately from the victims of this horrendous terrorist activity on US soil, their remains must be scattered over international waters. This task belongs to the US Navy frequently handling burial at sea. This ensures that there could be no future memorials and that no nations would serve as their final resting places for any of these hijackers.
