"Ludwig, that's your opinion. The Bible is the most accurate book in existence. You would do you well to heed its pages. Your day is coming when your eyes will be opened. In the meantime Christians will continue to stand behind Israel."

But for the fact that the Bible all but ignores the existence of nearly 4/5 of the planet, yes, it is the "most accurate book in existence".

So Palestine is illegally partitioned and renamed Israel. The land's most vital natural resources is controlled by the illegal manipulation of a sovereign republic. Massive concrete walls are being erected to create large ghettos of Palestinian civilians. How do you expect oppressed, poor and robbed people to try and defend the multiple and illegal UN violations? They don't have an airforce, a navy, illegal nuclear stockpiles and a blank check from the US.

Until the public discussion starts to really make the argument fair, the smoke screens and destruction will continue.

The sad thing is the Israelis are really the villians in this drama play when they ought not be. However they made the conscious choice to massively overreact and worst of all it was done for reasons relating to their own domestic politics. The rockets had only killed a handful of people by comparison to Israels collateral damage of several hundred. Hamas is merely a group of thugs and the Palestinians have been battered, abused, and failed for so many years holding them to account for Hamas is just self defeating. True democracies should be held to much higher standards when they choose to act this way.

Frankly I am surprised that this article chose to be honest for once. Most choose to omit what the Israelis are trying to dictate to the Palestinians via Article II of this piece. Would we have forced the Kosovoans to disarm and rely on Serbia for protection? I think not. The reasons the Israelis deserve the blame, criticism, and everything that comes at them is they are a DEMOCRACY. As such they should have acted with more restraint and stop imposing unreasonable conditions for peace as they have done all along. As I said this is the first artilcle I have ever read that was honest about some of the insane terms Israel was trying to force on the Palestinians.

There are only two ways for Israel to survive going forward in the long view. Neither of them are conducive to the Jewish theocracy they currently have. Either as an abusive apartheid state that represses the majority of it's population or as a multiethnic state where the Palestinians inside Israel will outgrow the Jewish population. The West Bank and Gaza are only the tip of the iceberg of problems that is heading for the Jewish state.

History is right on course. The Israelis are doing what God has orchestrated. The timetable is perfect. Israel may stumble from a human perspective but they will nevertheless come out victors because Jehovah God is with them. Israel's enemies are history. Mark my words, Iran is going down, as well as all of Israel's enemies. God laughs at the nations (Psalm 2) --- their efforts are pitiful to Him.

I'm just wondering why Jehovah God should be with a secualr state that is not the same as the ancient state of Israel. Yes, the ancient Jews were the Chosen People since from them the Messiah would come. The Messiah came, most of the Chosen ignored him, and then in 70 AD, Jehovah God did nothing when the pagans destroyed the Temple. The Old Covenant with Abraham is closed. It made way for the New Covenant between Jehovah God and those who follow the true Messiah, Jesus Christ, our Lord & Saviour. Nevertheless Jehovah God loves the Jews of today the same as He loves all people.

It's truly amazing that the only comment that Daniel Klaidman makes about Arab/Muslim desire to destroy Israel, the central obstacle in the search for peace in the Middle East, is that many Israelis are "suspicious" that Palestinian leaders harbor such thoughts. Has Mr. Klaidman ever read the Hamas charter which explicitly calls for Israel's destruction and the murder of Jews?. Has Mr. Klaidman ever seen the emblem of the Palestinian Authority which pictures Palestine covering all of Israel and the territories? The real "freier" in this scenario might just be Mr. Klaidman and is editors at Newsweek.

Not to change the subject, but shame on all of us.

While we're squabbling over the latest in an endless series skirmishes, the first volley of WWIII is fired by Russia over Ukraine and Europe's bow. We've seen the war of oil liberation going on in Nigeria, and now we're seeing the war of oil domination going on in Europe.

We're asleep at the wheel and now facing a head-on collision with the Putin's 18-wheeler. It's gonna be ugly.

You become powerful to be powerless. Israel is showing it's might and killing people, destroying properties. As a peace loving human being, I believe crueulty will never be condoned by God. All human being are his creation and by hurting killing them Israeli rulers are earning His wrath. International politics has created a situation so that Israelis and Palentinians have not been able to live in peace. It is time for saner elements of both the sides to stand up and help bring peace.

Honestly...I don't know how either side can live with it. The stress of it alone would drive me to stay awake at night taking sniper shots back across the border.

This is the equivalent of the Navajo's wanting to take back the Southwest by launching their slot machines into Phoenix from their reservation....killing the innocent and guilty alike. Meanwhile, the world tells the Phoenicians that they have to just deal with it by sending a strongly worded memo. While we're writing that memo, the other side continues on. Ah ha! We've got the solution....now they can't leave their reservation to receive that medical care they've been crying about on TV while trying to talk me into crossing the border to their casino. This only makes them more angry....now they start launching their discarded F-150's that were bought tax free.

The cycle continues. Why....because one side keeps getting hobbled by world opinion.

Let's all agree that we're most likely never going to visit the darn country anyway, and keep out nose out of it. They have no oil....just a bunch of places where works of fiction were created.

    Jews hate Palestinians.
    Palenstinians hate Jews.
Jews occupy Palestinian homeland and oppress them with checkpoints and borders (but they do still allow them to occupy what is currently theirs).
Palestinians want to reclaim Jewish homeland, and remove all the Jews.
U.S. backs the Jews because we still want to visit the homeland, and we wouldn't be able to if it were returned to Palestinians.
Hamas is nothing more than the latest in an angry line of people that want to lead Palestinians to victory.

What we have here is two kids fighting over the same piece of real estate in front of the TV. We should tell them both to leave the country in 2 months time because we're going to turn it into a glassy parking lot. Then they wouldn't have it to fight over anymore. In a few hundred years, we can return after everyone has cooled down....and maybe everyone will play nice then.
...it's either that option....or just have the world back away and let the two kids duke it out. It may be a bit lop-sided right now since we've only been selling the one kid the good weapons...but I'm sure someone will step up and arm the other kid. Most likely someone else that we've already sold weapons to.

isreal can not dare to attack gaza without having green llght from president bush ,isreal seized chance in bush`s final days in the white house, the airstrikes and ground attack unjustified specially if you know that 30% of dead were children, and more than 80% of casuality were civilians. total death toll to 550 up to this moment, think over does israel wants peace .if you back to this state history you find that this state took every thing by war took land of palestine ,killed its people , more than two milllion palestinian homeless, the equation is very simple (occupation and deterrioration of live in the occupied territory led to explosion) if isreal seeking for comrehensive peace it would agree on the arab leaders intiatives for peace process and withdraw from the occupied land the arab leaders gave isreal many opportuinities to realize peace but because the isreali's attitude and behaviour live on corps, so i beleive that israel will contioue its aggression all the time , the tv images of dead children and other civilian in gaza generate a tremendous will to fight among palestinian and supporters throughout the arab world and beyond the israelis think that they have the full right to respond to attacks against them by using indisriminate violance against palestinian civilian but palestinians do not have the SAME RIGHT TO RESPOND when they attack by israel.,it is war crime its unjust aggression which is not differentiate between children, women and old people and between civilian and fighters.
UN controlled by usa are not able or does not want to issue just a statment to condemne israel for its act , if an arab country did the same and attack isreal , in few minutes UN will issue a resolution to condemne this arab country , this is a double standard, which i think the time will come to (sooner or later) have an end of this kind of discrimination and double standard between the countries by USA. AND THE TIME WILL COME that palestine state will be fact and real.the comprehensive peace could be realized if israel pull out from all occupied arab territories.

Permission from President Bush, Yeah Right.

Israel does what the western/civilized world wants to do, but lacks the intestinal fortitude. If Israel waited for permission from President Bush, they would still be waiting.

If it is your contention that Israel is guilty of war crimes because of the civilian casualties, then you must also condemn Hamas for intentionally hiding behind civilians. War is never black and white, both sides must accept responsibility for the situation.

  • Posted By: hbo33 @ 01/06/2009 7:14:00 PM

It is evident that Hamas is a terrorist group and Israel is just trying to defend itself. They are clearly using civilians as shields. They are hiding out in areas where they know they can use defenseless people as shields. This happens in every war where you have rebells and guerillas using civilian people as shields by force. As far as I know, Israel has even taken steps to warn the Gazan people of their airstrikes before they even strike. I've never heard of a country giving out warnings to flee their homes with concern for civilians and minimizing casualties. Unfortunately, Israel is fighting against an extremist group that apparently knows no bounds even to the point of wiping out their own people for their cause. Besides, they believe it's well worth it since they gain points with their god. Quite disturbing!

It is not like Mexico firing rockets into the Texas. It is more like a group of Native Americans fire some rockets at Texas and kill one person, and then the governement goes in and kills 500 Native Americans including hundreds of civilians. That would be a better analogy. Such a response would be extremely disproportionate. The Israelis' response is unjust because it has resulted in hundreds of civilian deaths.

The fact still remain that Israel is still occupying lands that belong to the Palestinians. The fact is that Israel still uses forces to have its ways among the Palestinian population. The fact still remain that Israel is still supported by the United States, militarily, and financially. And the fact is Hamas is launching rockets into Israel. Would you blame them?.Who has the upperhand?, Israel. Who"s financially very secure?, Israel. Who is the most powerful nation in that part of the world?, Israel. Who lives in extreme poverty?, the Palestinians. Who's been blockaded to recieve the bare necessity?, the Palestinians. And Israel has a problem. I think Israel needs to wake up and smell whatever they drink in the morning, and figure out how they considered few unorganized fighters with limited military arsenal can in reality destroy the state of Israel. Unless Israel depends on them to built its military might in the area. A peace can be achieve. Israel has to return unconditionaly any land occupy to the Palestinians, a Palestinian state to be created. And then, and only then that Israel could be regarded as the honest broker. It's a chance that Israel has to take. It got nothing to lose, or it does?.

    • Posted By: Iam3rd @ 01/06/2009 5:57:30 PM

Read "formerly"s comments above. No one is blameless, including Israel. The assumption that Israel owes Gaza anything but being left alone is ridiculous, and Gaza has even taken that for granted.

  • Posted By: thussayeththelord @ 01/06/2009 5:52:20 PM

Creating a seperate Palestinian state will solve nothing. The Arabs hate the Jews. Many nations are going to come against Israel, as predicted in the Bible. But no sweat --- God will be ready with His armies. The nations will drop like flies, all who come against Israel. Guess what? Jehovah God loves that desert land. It's His kind of place. Jesus was quite at home in Israel. He loved the land. He loved the people. Bring it on all you who hate Israel --- I want to be alive when God kicks butt.

The Jews are industrious people. They supply all the good jobs for the Palestinians. The Palestinians don't know how to create jobs. --- they are like liberals in America --- the government will take care of them. Jehovah God loves His people Israel. He will see them to victory.

    • Posted By: pug_ster @ 01/06/2009 5:47:58 PM

To most Jews, Palestians are a bunch of backwarded people who deserved to be treated as 2nd rate citizens. 1.5 million Palestians are put in a land with 139 sq miles, that's more than 10,000 people per sq mile. Israel formed this blockade against Gaza restricting even the basic necessities like food, water, electricity and fuel. Bomb their schools, kill their women and children, denying them the right to get a decent job and Israelis are complaining why the 'terrorist' organization Hamas was not democratically elected?

  • Posted By: formerly @ 01/06/2009 5:20:44 PM

I could attempt to make the usual various points of how absurd it is to ask Isreal from refraining to protect its citizens and how the charter of Hamas calls for the destruction of the Jewsih state...but all of this would fall on deaf ears...for the nations of the world are nashing their teeth in fury at the Jewish state's "chutzpah" and their ears are plugged by the voices inside of their heads that are quite litterally screaming..."I hate Jews" As for myself, I sleep well at night when I am hearing the voices of the gentile nations raised up in chorus against Israel, for I know that it means Israel is doing something right. For it is quite simple actually... the nations of the world prefer the Jew on the Cross....and not the Jew in the tank.

    • Posted By: Iam3rd @ 01/06/2009 5:44:46 PM

Very well put. It is sad to realize there is so much festering anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sentiment that people spin as 'logic' or 'fairness'. It is either racism or at the very least a worldview of distribution of wealth and wellfare. The belief that those With owe something to those Without. The world is not a fair place. Some people have the luck of birth for their economic situation. It is no excuse for terrorism, violence, and hatred.

  • Posted By: EverettKemper @ 01/06/2009 5:23:06 PM

In order to have peace with the Palestinians, there must be a war, a unconditional surrender; and a occupation. Short of that I'll be reading about this situation for the rest of my life. There must be a Palestinian State and there must be a generation, or a decade of peace and re-education. America should give Isreal the backing and the resources to make this a reality. Look at Japan and Germany. Look at Vietnam were we lost. The world always comes around when peace has a chance to take root.

    Your proposal is wishful thinking
    Among many non staters
    1. you cut the israeli territory by a road between Gaza and teh west bank; Israelis are not foolish to accept it
    2. you dont take into your account the grievances of Jews thrown away from arab countries ans their lost properties
and they were nearly 900 000 souls, perhaps 4 to 5 million after 3 generations
