I believe that Isreal has a right to exist, and I believe equally so in rights of Palestinians. These and other peoples have conquered and occupied these regions ceaselessly since before history. It is impossible to determine who has the superior, traditional, historical rights to any of these places, borders, if anyone has. Haram Es Sharif was built on the ruins of Soloman's Temple. James Michener wrote The Source, a popular '65 novel, about the archeology that shows these regions were settled long before any current ethnicity probably called themselves what they do today. Jews and Palestinians were in the Gaza Strip for a long time before the Palestinian riots drove the Jews out in '29. Isreal took the Gaza strip in '67 in response to the Six Day War, and then gave it up in '94.

Those few brief generalities and specificx are ONLY to say that there have been strife and conflict there always, and that nothing is clear cut. I do not favor Jews over Palestinians, or vice versa.

While I wish peace and self determination for the Palestinians, as well as for Isreal, I cannot help wondering what Isreal should do in response to bombs and rockets launched from Gaza. The U.S. would not refrain from action. No one is completely right. Maybe no one is more right.

A lasting peace has never been achieved. I cannot but wonder whether anyone will ever be able to facilitate that. Finger pointing by no one will ever contribute to a resolution.

perrin: Absolutely brilliant and well said. I would add that peace comes from within (as it is where the kingdom of heaven resides) - so it is there we must first find it. We are all children of God, and so we must find the courage (as perrin said) to not kill our brothers and sisters. And as the famous guote says, "There is no way to peace, peace is the way."

This is a very good description and some good potential solutions for the problems in Israel adn Palastine. It misses the main problem in the area which is IRAN and to a lesser extent Syria. Until thoset terrorist states are made part of the process there will not be peace in the Middle East. Unfortunately it may take military action to resolve the issue. The one thing that planners, polotical and military, need to understand is that if military action is taken is need to be overpowering force. As we have seen in Iraq, a piece meal approach does not work very well.

It's tiering to keep hearing about the "religion of peace" ... when all we hear is how muslims kill each other and and other people for simple mindless reasons... Their mentality is too many hundreds of years behind. You cant just stone a 10 year old girl to death and call yourself religious. The mere fact that they're willing to kill themselves jut to kill or hurt other people tells you the mentality; and dont even start with "there are extremiists in all religions"

Why does not America say any
thing to Israel? it is superpower-it is said so- or can America only attack to muslims. ??srael does not want peace, ??srael compromise with El fetih. elfetih is sold. it is not a real muslim. everybody knows that more than 400 people died in ??srael's attack. if not all of them but ten percent of these death people belonged to israel now America ,UN or west had destroyed Gaza. America vetoed the UN 's decision again. what is reason? reason is self- defense . they say israel defense itself. from whom? Babies, women or innocent people? do not make us laugh. what do they wait from the real owner of a land. they were owner of that land, but now they are refugees. and when they defense their land and homes with light guns and stones... this is a very honorable and right behavior. sorry but media is not unbiased. and because of this millions of people don not of the real reason of this war. this will change soon .do not worry.

Peace is possible if the palestinian and Israelies are treated equally.

There is only one way to achieve peace in the middle east, or anywhere else for that matter, and that is for one side to vanquish and annihilate the other side. Efforts to keep this from happening are only prolonging the inevitable and creating more suffering and death. The sooner victory is achieved, the sooner peace happens.

Muslims had ruled the land for 400 years but they took that from the Jews before then even, forcing the Jews to move to Babylon and spread into eastern and western Europe. Going back in time to establish ownership is pointless as land changes hands over and over again over thousands of years, France was once controlled by Germanic kingdoms, the Norman or effectively French owned England and on and on. Fundamentalist Islam extremists are to blame they allow no room for negotiations.

europeans fail to realise that they are not assimilating muslims but that the muslims are assimilating them. In a few years they will not be able to safely voice concern over islam within their own countries,in fact many europeans have already been murdered by muslims for expressing their opinions.

In 1917 after the defeat of the Ottoman empire by Britain and France Palestine came under control of the British. 78% of Palestine was Muslim. 11% were Christian and only 11% were Jews. The Muslims had ruled that land for 400 years.

In the 1890???s Herzl proposed a ???homeland??? for the Jews. The movement was called Zionism. Jews were scattered around the world. The concept of developing a Jewish State ???for the Jews??? to bring them together was commendable. Except, if you want to create such a State, you have to take the land from somebody else!

In WW1, during the fighting in that area (Palestine), Britain promised control to the Arabs for their support in defeating the Turks. (Remember Lawrence of Arabia?) However, at the end of the war, Jewish lobbyists (Chaim Weismann and Balfour among others) convinced the British to declare Palestine a ???national home??? for the Jews. This was known as the Balfour Declaration (1917). The declaration did not sit well with the Arabs and is the seed of the Arab/Muslim anger that we see today.

With the Balfour Declaration came the migration of Jews to the area. And with the migration came the processes of Jewish control for ???Their??? Homeland. The Jews proceeded to take over Palestine in much the same way as we, the US, drove the American Indians from their lands. .

Apparently, the Palestinians along with the rest of the Muslim world, have no will or capability to organize politically or militarily to defend their position and they have resorted to terrorism as a defense. But, it should be recognized that every time there has been some Palestinian uprising, the Jews have used the encounter as an reason to gain control of more land. This has been the history of Jewish expansion, and one wonders if it was not a strategic plan all along. Gaza is about to fall. And give the West Bank a year or so and it will go the same way.

On top of that , we the US, have never been perceived as treating the parties fairly. Why we sided with the Jews is a puzzle because from the beginning our interests should have been with oil, and had we played the game more fairly we may not be having all the problems (global terrorism) that we have today.

What a pity!

Here in London people are protesting in Westminster calling the raid on Gaza a "holocaust" and although tragic events they are how insulting to the real victims of the real holocaust and how ironic considering most Islamic states don't recognize the holocaust against the Jews as history. The Jews in Poland and Germany never fired rockets on non-Jewish towns and cities, unless you consider the Warsaw rebellion and at that time the real holocaust was already under way. How ridiculous!
