It's not just the Israelis who are happy to see the Hamas go away. The Egyptian, the Saudis would be thrilled to see Iran's proxy out of their neighborhood.

Israel is the regional superpower, so they have to do the dirty job of eradicating Iran's proxy, but the truth is that the more secular countries in the region will benefit from it as well.

"The suspicion of many Israelis???sometimes justified???that Palestinian leaders are interested not in peace but in Israel's destruction"
hmm do you think that "suspicion" has anything to do with the fact that the Hamas leaders have been saying "DEATH TO ISRAEL" from the day the established their terrorist organization?

Perhaps Israelis suspect so, because the Hamas have murdered hundreds of Israeli women and children in the most cruel suicide bombings and other attacks,

But most of all, the Israelis might suspect the Palestinians leaders are interested in war and death to all the Jews, basically because that was exactly the political platform onto which the Hamas have won the elections and got the majority of the Gazans votes?

I think the Israelis might be suspicious of the intentions of the Gazans, because the Gazans have been firing rockets to Israeli towns and cities for the past 8 years.

That sounds like a reason to be "suspicious" of someone's intentions, wouldn't you agree?

Callejero is a disguised Palestinian terrorist full of hate. Such hatemongering should not be allowed in this form. Peace to all peoples in the world.

No, he is simply demented, see his history beleives below.Don't pay attention to this poor soul.

I understand why you would feel this way but I think that Callejero is very passionate over his beliefs. He has compassion for the suffering. He doesn't hate anyone. He wants peace as much as the rest of us do.

The problem comes when a terrorist gets in a powerful government position... Hamas, Hezbolah, Iran... Why does Israel live so peacefully with Jordan ? Because it's leaders are not terrorists.

    pinkpanther,

Three thousand rockets lobbed into Israel this year alone aren't considered "spit wads." The fact is the Palestinians have sold out to Hamas, who's only objective is Israel's destruction. Israel long ago committed to a two state solution, but of course Hamas won't take "yes" for an answer. Only Israel's destruction will do.

Ultimately, the Palestinians have allowed themselves to be used by a group of terrorists who could care less if Palestinian countrymen die. In fact, Hamas sees that as necessary and welcome, as those deaths garner sympathy and support from those on the outside who are as easily manipulated as the Palestinians.

Hamas intends to destroy Israel, and they say so in no uncertain terms in their charter:

    http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/hamas.asp

As they've proven time and again, negotiation is not an option for Hamas. Considering that Israel will simply not lay down and die for their convenience, the only option the Israelis are left with is to disable or destroy them.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 01/06/2009 11:36:08 AM

The helpless Palestinian people, esp. women, children and old people, have been manipulated by the Hamas people who supply them with food and other necessities.... ..these people live in desperation.

      • Posted By: joe_mama @ 01/06/2009 4:42:38 PM

Too bad they elected Hamas as their government.

Read the Hamas Charter, they knew what they were getting into.

        Love,
        JM

Ethan, Isn't there a worldwide 'palestinian' situation present in every country put into place with courtesy of the UN since the 1980s?
Any country who spells out to want to live by the rules and customs of its own culture, different from the Islamics, is set to meet with the same opposition Israel encounters. Some examples are a long list of worldwide locations. Various countries in the West show tolerance while the statistics show that in a few decades the Islamics will be in the majority: this is called the 'passive approach". In cases like Israel where it is very well known that the Islamic culture will never be the rule of the country we have gangs such as Hamas and company.

The biggest lie of the 21st century: Islam is peace...Unbelievable for any educated person to utter such words when History shows the exact opposite. France and Europe walked the road of the appeaser while W walked the road of the aggressor. In the end, history will show who was the fool and who was not. The Background check of Islam is violence and more violence. Why do we lie to ourselves by claiming "violence is peace'?

    • Posted By: jazzmanjim @ 01/12/2009 12:58:36 PM

Ditto. Islam is a 7th century death cult.

  • Posted By: Ethan30 @ 01/11/2009 5:39:22 PM

Hamas with the finances of Iran have cultivated a culture of violence and suicidal tendencies are encouraged.

Instead of focusing on nation building, infrastructure, science and the arts- like Israel- they have focused on developing their excellence in terrorism.

The people of Gaza have recieved more humanitarian aid them all the countries in Africa and they still don't use that money to build a civic state.

Had they eradicated the racism and radical Islam, they could have done something constructive with all the European funds, but instead they voted for a terrorist organization to lead them to war, instead of peace.

I wish that money had gone to Africa. Even better- to the poor people of Darfur who have suffered from the same barbaric violence in the name of Islam.

    • Posted By: jazzmanjim @ 01/12/2009 12:48:35 PM

      Your analysis is correct!!

  • Posted By: nlkatz @ 01/12/2009 9:22:42 AM

Persistent reports tell of Hamas's leaders hiding in the basement of the Shifa Hospital of Gaza, using the civilians in this medical facility as human shields, a form of war crime.

Also, similar reports, based on photo documentation, accuse Hamas's armed forces of stockpiling weapons and explosives in mosques, in schools and in people's homes and firing them from schoolyards and the yards of medical facilities, which also amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

And of course, Hamas's exclusive targets for many years have been population canters in Israel ??? the blue colour towns of S'derot, Ashqelon, the universities in Beer Sheba and Sapir, and the collective and cooperative farming communities and their residents, of southern Israel - also considered war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Israel has been seeking an accommodation of peaceful co-existence with its Arab neighbours, in Gaza and elsewhere. But Israel, as any other country, can not permit its citizens to be targeted day in and day out, especially when the declared goal of the attackers is to erase the Jewish state of Israel ??? a UN member state ??? off the face of the earth and with it the Jewish civilization in this national homeland of the Jewish people (read Hamas's Charter!!!).

At present, Hamas must loose its will and motivation to fire at Israel and Israelis, and most of the means with which it conducts its war machine against Israel's civilian population must be eliminated. In addition, all illicit weapons and explosives must cease from making their way into Gaza. And of course, without Gilad Shalit coming back home this conflict will not come to an end.

On a longer term, the demand of the UN, EU, US, Russia as well as Arab states and the Palestinian Authority presidency of Hamas must stand if it (Hamas) wishes to be part of any peace process: Cease all acts of terror and violence against Israel and Israelis and the preparations for such acts, adhere to previously signed agreements with Israel, and recognize Israel's right ??? a UN member state ??? to exist.

Israelis have never sought anything beyond an accommodation of peaceful co-existence between Arab and Jew, between Israel and its Arab neighbors.

Can Israel's neighbors rise to the occasion and seek the same goal??

In the middle east, war and not law is used for the reasons I specified in my previous post. If a Muslim society is law abiding, but nevertheless lets a good portion of it's population to start shooting rockets into another country, dances in the streets when suicide bombers manage to blow up Israeli busses, brain washes their children to hate Jews and to become suicide bombers.. then.. obviously LAW will not work. The alternative that Israelis have is to all go for a long swim in the Mediterranean..
If you don't know what I mean by brainwashing children.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhVDwrfoTOg
    and many more for years.

    • Posted By: extempor @ 01/11/2009 7:10:08 AM

The reason Israel attacked Gaza was because there was "No Alternative" the Law should provide an alternative to war. If Governments can obey Monetary Laws then they can obey other Laws.

      Us the LAW not WAR

Stop the "Legal Killing of Children"

      • Posted By: bighappy @ 01/11/2009 12:11:09 PM

Who has to enforce the LAW?

        • Posted By: extempor @ 01/12/2009 7:02:18 AM

Who enforces International Banking & Trade Laws?

  • Posted By: minnias @ 01/11/2009 8:31:33 AM

THE ISRAELIS AND PALESTINIANS SHOULD BE GUIDED BY LAW AND A CONSCIENCE TO HUMANITY. NO VINDICTIVE ACTION CAN ACHIEVE PEACE.

    • Posted By: bighappy @ 01/11/2009 12:17:07 PM

What will you do if your neighbour every dat throws stones and small bombs in your window and threatens to throw sometging bigger unlesws you leave your house. No police around, but you have a lot of rifles and ammunition. Your LAWful action?

      • Posted By: extempor @ 01/11/2009 5:42:52 PM

If your neighbour throws stones you go to the police. if there are no police, that is a problem. But if you take the law into your own hands, then you are breaking the law, and you are no different to the person throwing stones. WHY ARE THERE NO POLICE? That is the real issue.

        Use the LAW not WAR.

Stop the "Legal Killing of Children".

        • Posted By: bighappy @ 01/11/2009 6:56:24 PM

There is not police, whatever the reason is. What should you do, wait for God's angels? Imagine that there is even nowhere to run. Will you allow thugs kill your children for the sake of God, or kill the thugs?
Did it ever come to your had that those thugs are not creatures of God but devil?

          • Posted By: extempor @ 01/12/2009 7:00:32 AM

The reason there is No Police is that Israel believes their is no power greater than them. They have said this again and again. The do not recognise the UN's right to criticise them. That's why there is No Police, the US is the same. So while Governments refuse to recognise International Law when it suits them, we will contine to have Wars.

Again I say, why is it that people respect Laws within their country, but refuse to abide by Laws that relate between countrie. Part of the problem is that No One recognises Palestine as s country, so its citizens have less rights than virtually all other countries in the world.

    • Posted By: bighappy @ 01/11/2009 7:01:22 PM

Go to Israel and say it. They will be angry at you but nobody touch you. Then go to Gaza and try repeat the same. I bet you will not survive 20 minutes. And it is not a hypotetical dilemma, there really were few idiots who tried to encourage Palestinians live in peace, God bless their souls.

  • Posted By: G.T.Martenscaa @ 01/12/2009 3:33:50 AM

HOW Many Jews must die from random missile attacks before the people realize they are not the aggressors. UNTIL GAZA GETS RID OF THEIR OWN WARMONGERS THEY SHOULD NOT BE SUPRISED THERE IS REPRISAL TO THEIR MURDERING. Unless they are ready to face the consequences of their own actions or inactions they cannot justify calling themselves victims. USE YOUR ENERGIES TO WEED OUT THE THREAT IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY AND PEOPLE WILL STOP BOMBING YOU. Think about it allright

    1. They are not innocent! 2.Israel isn't targeting non-combatants. This is a war zone like any war.
There is a reason why gaza is under INTERNATIONAL blockade.
Poor Palestinians? The ones who are training their kids to be suicide bombers?

At first I did not understand what it meant thst Bush wanted to sabotage Iran nuclear program (when he did not allow Israel bomb Iran). After the report that Iran used front companies to buy military parts from USA companies - i guess it is clearer how US did it. I would not try to use those parts, and thanks for few $ billions, Iranian people.

There are snake pits in Gaza City name "Rerfugee Camps". Israel should give them 1 day notice to leave, and then completely destroy those camps from safe distance. See how Hamas will like it.

  • Posted By: Ethan30 @ 01/11/2009 5:33:40 PM

Hamas has set the delusional goal of eliminating Israel and killing all the Jews in the Middle East. Since they want to fight till the last drop of blood, they are getting exactly what they asked for.

I find it incredible how their leaders are hiding in Syria and while they are protected- they call their own people to die for their anti- semitic and fanatic cause.

  • Posted By: Ethan30 @ 01/11/2009 5:30:53 PM

Hamas is a proxy of Iran, just as Hezbollah in Lebanon. They follow the orders of the Ayatollah in Iran, not the interests of the Lebanese people or the Gazans.

That is why Egypt is not opening the borders with Gaza and not helping the Hamas. They hate Hamas.
Saudi Arabai hate Hamas for the same reason- TSaudi and Iran are arch enemies and thus both Saudi Arabia and Egypt- despite their anti- Semitism, are happy to see Israel fight Hamas.

Non of these countries like to see Iran meddling with their neighborhood and they know that if Israel is down- they will be next.
Irans wants to constitute a global Jihad and have the Middle East under the rule of the Ayattolah.

I grow so weary of this never ending story that goes round and round and round.Cant we find something else to fight about,or is this just too entertaining for us all to just let go.Maybe if we just all ignored them like obnoxious children looking for attention, they would just fade away quietly while we dealt with the truly important issues of our day.

The bloody protracted struggle in Palestine is as natural as that of a cockfight...with the losing *** allowed no exit from the ring.

This problem should have been put to rest decades ago...other displaced populations have long since gotten on with their lives by now. The people living in Gaza are 80% refugees from a war lost in 1948. Their Arab brethren, despite their fine promises of support and instead of utilizing some small fraction of their petrodollars to resettle then on Arab land and in Arab societies, have found it expedient to let them languish in what amounts to a concentration camp.

In theory, enlightened Western societies that have a problem with the plight of these refugees could step forward but a more realistic solution is to close down Gaza and integrate these people into Arab societies and states. The alternative is 1.5 million people in Gaza waiting to "go home" to a place that they lost 60 years ago and will never see again.

Peace requires that the "Diaspora" proceed forthwith. They should be grateful that, unlike the Jews 2000 years ago, they have brethren able to receive and nurture them.
