Mr. Klaidman???s ???solution??? for bringing peace to the Mideast is as stale as week old bread. Let???s examine it article by article. Mr. Klaidman states that Israel needs to ???pull out of the vast majority of the Westbank.??? Let???s take a look at where territorial concessions have gotten Israel so far: Israel pulled out of the Sinai which is now used as one of Hamas??? main thoroughfares for smuggling rockets into Gaza. Israel pulled out of Southern Lebanon which is now controlled by Hezbollah, an organization dedicated to Israel???s destruction. Israel pulled out of Gaza which has in short order become hostile territory controlled by yet another organization whose sole reason for being is the destruction of Israel and from which thousands of missiles have been fired into Israel over the course of the past three years; 300 during the so-called cease fire. On the issue of security, Mr. Klaidman says that Palestinians ???would be allowed to maintain light arms to enforce domestic law and order but would not have offensive capabilities that could in any way threaten Israel.??? What about the missiles pointed at Israel from Southern Lebanon and the bomb being built by Iran? Does Mr. Klaidman honestly believe that these existential threats to the very existence of Israel would magically disappear if the Palestinians were given a few extra square miles of land? On the issue of Jerusalem, Mr. Klaidman endorses ???shared sovereignty??? and ???international supervision.??? Why is Israel the only country in the world being ask to share its capital with a hostile population? Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people and will remain so, Mr. Klaidman???s desires notwithstanding. Finally, on the issue of refugees, Mr. Klaidman wants a ???small, symbolic number??? allowed to move to Israel. What makes Mr. Klaidman think that the Palestinians would settle for symbolism when their goal is the return of refugees to all of Israel? Mr. Klaidman clings to the age old notion that the Mideast dispute is about territory, but the history of the past 61 years belies that notion. The goal of the Palestinians, and their sponsors in Iran, Syria and Lebanon, is the destruction of Israel. And that is a goal, G-d willing, that will never come to pass.
