There is no palestinian language or culture. What we call "palestinians" are nothing more than arab immigrants and nomads who settled in that part of the world.

    Even the "palestine" that the British invented is mostly (80%) in Jordan, not Israel. Don't see any Jihads against their moslem brethren.

    ¿Remember Judea? Now there's a continuous presence for thousands of years.

    Mr. President-elect is going to have to prove his leadership ability in dealing with strong issues in the middle-east. Can the 44th president with little experience be ready to handle what lies ahead in the coming year? The following may offend a lot of people but; God is in control. Mr. Obama's winning the presidential positionthrough God's perfect timing and whatever happens is in His hands. Israel is God's promised land from the promise to Abraham the considered the father of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths.. This is a God thing and you really wouldn't understand.

    Israel is doing what it needs to do to protect itself. They know no matter what they do world opinion never sides with them. Let someone else try to make peace with people who Don't Want Peace. Israel will just protect itself as it should and as anybody else would.

      The level of misunderstanding on the topic of the Middle East by Americans is daunting and anyone who compares Israel to Hitler is a very angry, sick person.
      Israel gave GAZA to the Palestinians because they said that doing so would make them happy and that they'd stop 'suicide-bombing' Israelis on a weekly basis.
      So, Israel actually removed by force it's own citizens legally living for years in the Gaza, so that Palestinians could have that property to live in an develop.
      Days after moving in Palestine had it's first Democratic election in it's new land and elected Hamas Terror Party to run their new country and Hamas began sending missiles into their Israeli neighbors residential areas, killing innocent civilians!
      Does this make any sense to you fools and supporters of terrorists interests over those of civilians? Not one political pundit or expert agrees with you btw, and they all wonder what we in the US would do if we say gave away Rhode Island to Canada and then they started firing missiles at Vermont and killed Americans. Right, we all know the answer.
      Israel is a sliver of property- even smaller than Rhode Island and the Arab countries surrounding her such as Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, are huge countries- each one alone several times larger than Israel.
      Do you see any of them in agreement w/ Hamas and bombing Israel too?! NO.
      For any American to agree w/ terrorist organizations bent on murder of innocents like Hamas and believe in the rights of those terrorists to deny the right to even exist of the only American ally, Democratic nation in all the Middle-East is not only psychotic, but should be investigated as a possible hate-crime.

        You are deeply mistaken, Gaza was NEVER Israels to give to anybody, it was alwalys Palestinian, and those 'settlers' were not there legally, they were colonizers, illiegally living in occupied territories. This is a bogus agrument.

          Your view is exactly that of the terrorists. The land Israel "occupies" was bequeathed to Israel by the British as it was the original Holy Place of the Jewish Temple and was in fact THE Jewish State fought for and won from the Syrians- you've heard of Jerusalem, right?
          As soon as the British forces left, after having armed and trained the "palestinians"- they went about attempting to 'evict' the Jewish settlers given this tiny piece of land (where their sacred ancient temple had been) and even though they outnumbered the Jewish farmers, as is their history, this small unarmed band of settlers after many weeks of war- took back what was given them. Israel is the only country in the world that anyone would abide hearing "doesn't have a right to exist". Like I said before, an American that 'abides' by this ideal is no better than the murderous terrorist who originates this idea. Israel is a peaceful, Democracy where Jewish and Arab citizen coexist. In fact 1/4 of the population that enjoy the freedom of living in Israel are NOT Jewish; mostly Palestinians!! Don't preach history to me- you're simply rationalizing you're own bigotry and hatred.

            Again, you are mistaken. There certainly was Jewish terrorism and bombings of the types we see today by Jews before the creation of Isreal. You are correct that there are 1.2 million Arabs living within Israel, but these people are certainly not equal citizens under the law. They face daily discrimination and not long ago Jewish forces opened fire on some of their Arab citizens. Also, the vast majority of Arabs living within Israel are not permitted to join the military although they carry Israeli passports and are in fact 'Israelis' by law. Unlike the Jewish citizens of Israel, the Arab citizens have less freedom, are frequently discriminated against and do not have the same rights as Jewish Israelis. These laws and policies would offend most Americans. Also, I'm not the one 'rationalizing' here, I'm simply trying to state factual information.

          One other point I'd like to make please. You are correct in that Israel is a ''sliver' of a country - very small. I have been to Israel. What you have not said however, is that as small as Israel is it is still about FIVE TIMES the size of the West Bank and Gaza combined, which would be the core of an independent Palestine.

    What is Obama supposed to do? Does he have magic wand that will erase all of the terrible terrorists of the world?
    If someone fired upon my homeland at my family, I would do whatever it took to hunt down the aggressors and kill them for once and for all. I doubt that any one of these terrorist networks felt bad for the lives lost on 911 or prayed for them . But they will pray for more jihad and use their own women and children as shield. These are cowards and we need to remember that one less terrorist makes for a safer world for everyone!! Obama is smart enough to know that we have more serious problems here in the U.S. Thanks to Bush we are broke and busted and can't hardly help ourselves let alone all of these other countries.

    For those who are christians, remember what Jehovah God said to Abraham? This war will never end. The Crusades formed because Mohammed wanted that all men should become Muslims by forced. It started in Spain, and now many we all know what happened on March 11.

    It's sad that so many blame other countries for their misforture but they don't DARE to looked at the real HISTORY AND sad TRUTH. Just what President Elect Barack Hussein Obama said "Israel has the right to defend it self. If someone is throwing deadly rockets at my backyard at my daughters, I want to be able to defend my children."

    But I also hope that B.H.O. doesn't give in with these terrorists.

    Lucky for Hamas that they didn???t land a rocket on a school full of Israeli kids early on. If they did, Israel could attack Gaza with the support of the world. But even if Hamas could kill the kids now, they???d just say it???s justified revenge. And if they never kill the kids, they will say how evil Israel is for killing Palestinians.

    I don???t understand how so many people can say Israel is not justified in attacking Gaza, no matter the number of Palestinian casualties. Israel is not targeting Palestinians, but civilian casualties are inevitable when the militant cowards hide behind women and children. Hamas is specifically targeting Israeli civilians, so the Palestinians have a choice: either kick out Hamas, or know that they will die as human shields.

    Hamas says Israel broke the truce two months ago. Militants tried to sneak through a tunnel into Israel to kill and capture Israeli soldiers. Israel found out, entered Gaza, killed the militants and destroyed the tunnel. With a Hamas spin, Israel broke the truce, justifying the recent rocket attacks.

    Israel wants peace. If there was peace, Israel would allow the Palestinians back into Israel. They???ve demonstrated that in the past. But as soon as some militant blows up another market, Israel has no choice but to close the borders again. Hamas wants Israel destroyed, and that will never happen if peace reigns. So whenever there is a possibility for peace, Hamas starts another war. Until every member of Hamas is dead, there can be no peace.

    I wish someone would drop leaflets on Gaza explaining this. I???m sure that the Palestinians only hear the Hamas spin, and don???t know that they die for Hamas??? war.

      The world is not going to support Israel no matter what justification they have. They have no oil. Behind all that European indignation is the thirst for the crude.Plain and simple. Now, if the palestinians were lobbing 3,000 rockets a year into, say, Paris or Madrid....that would be a different story.

    Over 600 Palestinians killed by Israel's weapons of mass destruction, after getting a green light by a departing lame-dcuk president, inhumanly cruel and utterly insensitive to plights of civilan casualties in Palestine. I have neve seen a man so utterly stupid, so ignorant, so devoid of empathy, so oblivious to the plight of Palestinians. Blood will be in his hands because it is US weapons gifted to Israel that are raining death on Palestinians. US law is very clear. US weapons cannot be used to kill civilians. But US laws do not apply to Israel.

      Gee, do you think that a constant bombardment of Iranian missiles lobbed from Gaza might have something to do with Israel's response? They just do it better. An insight into the mentality of the Palestinians can be seen in just how they handled the turnover of Gaza to the Palestinian authority by Israel (you know a good faith offering). Israel not only handed over land, they handed over proseperous industries and gave MONEY to the Palestinians to make the businesses continue to run and run better (another generous action). What did the Palestinians do? They destroyed the economic infrastructure instead of using it. it's that sort of mentality that is keeping them at the tip of Islam's spear and under the authority of grown-ups like Israel.

    In this sliver of time, it is easy to have a one-sided opinion, for or against Israel and her enemies. My point is this: if we look back before the Western world would come to know Islam, i.e., sixty years ago, our opinions would be a lot different.
    Christianity and Catholicism, in particular, was the violent pariah of the religious world. Forced conversions (or death), raping and bombing of villages, and the enslaving of those who were perceived as weaker was the way of the church. And that history had been going on for hundreds of years! So, as members of religions other than Islam, it is easy to forget the blood that has been dripping for centuries off your religions' dirty hands... Lesson to be learned is that religion has killed more people than anything else man-made.
    For those who preach about the holiness of your religion, I urge you to step off that high horse of yours and read a book about the Crusades, the Inquisition and all other dark moments in human history that at one point were BLESSED by the very church you deem to be "holier than thou".
    ALL religions should go the way of Greek mythology- mocked and taught as a bunch of lies and myths!

    Christpoher Dickey needs to do more research before writing articles. First of all the U.S's interest in the middle east is purely for oil and the only strong hold they have is Israel. The middile east has been in turmoil for years because of the foreign interests in oil including ours as U.S. Citizens. Hence the region has become war zone. Just because Israel is a formal governement doesn't mean that they should escape the term "terrortist organization", they are killing hundreds of innocent civilians in Gaza, some would call this Genocide. I am an objective non-Arab, non-Israeli American citizen. The U.S. needs to act more as mediator than an Israeli allie. If not, the violence will seem to continue, this is just fueling the fire of all the militant Islamic organizations. Also, whoever wrote the previous comment on this article earlier is obviously an ignorant biggot and has no idea of what is going in the world outside their own existence. Pick up a history book and read!

    Obama wont do much in the way of correcting the long-term problems of Islamic fundamentalism which demands the obliteration of Israel and the world-wide observance of Islam as the only ruling faith. How can he when his closest friends(Robert malley) happens to work with Hezbollah, has written grossly dishonest revisionbist history books for Palestinioan chidren and whose father is Assad of Syria's advisor? Obama chose to align himself with enemies of the united states when he chose his alliances with malley.
