Did we lose the war and we are being saved from total destruction by being dupped into thinking we want all this?

    • Posted By: Trooper101st @ 03/18/2009 1:18:57 PM

I know we went to war in 2 places. !1 was UNECCESSARY, and was based on lies, deception and fear.

The Agency has become "risk averse" which means they will not take a risk coz they are desk jockey's more interested in thier OWN careers than getting the job done. Let the SAD do thier jobs, and let the desk jockeys do thiers-stats, trends, thier paperwork and thier carreers. The CIA was feared-and loathed by the enemy. Its not that way no more. Thanks Prez FORD. You idiot.

Feinstein, if YOU have so much experience with INTEL, why did you go shooting off your mouth about "CIA drones" based in P-stan? You have opened a can of worms, and you woould be the last person I would let know about "Top Secret" info, since you can't hold water. Let the field operatives operate, don't go nailing men-and women who put thier lives in danger almost every day. Panetta should let the experienced intel people do thier jobs, sometimes it means playing dirty, but sometimes rules must be broken in order to get results. Case in point: Marine barracks bombing in Lebanon. They sent a veteran agent over there to get results, and when he got down to the truth, they charged him with murder. They didn't like wat they heard [TRUTH], so they tried to ruin this man. His nickname was "Capt. Crunch", and he is an American hero.

As for the California Sentaor who's husband prospered from the Iraq war I could care less what she thinks about Penetta. He is a good man with no agenda other then serving his country. Feinstein dry up and go away.

Is that Rockefeller as in big Oil money Rockefeller? You all want to sleep well at night read about Riggs bank, and how the oil companys got started at www.JohnLoftus.com.

  • Posted By: travelerONE @ 01/24/2009 6:51:47 PM

As long as we have a President with no leadership experience we might as well have a CIA Director with no intelligence experience while we're at war...makes perfect sense to me, besides, I was getting to comfortable to the idea that my family and I could sleep safely at night...

The Dems attitude of virtuosity when it comes to fixing a process that has kept us safe since 9/11 is suicidal for the country. Maybe the terrorists in the coming attack will let women and children leave the building before they achieve martyrdom by killing the rest. This "holier than thou " attitude WILL cost many lives!

If, at 71, Panetta's got enough energy for the job he might be a very good choice. After his first choice fell through, Obama was faced with finding someone who hasn't dirtied his hands in the last eight years through involvement with torture, secret renditions, Guantanamo, etc. Someone with no such involvement can conduct a thorough house cleaning, thereby elevating the agency. Maybe some of the old pros who left the agency out of disgust and took early retirement may find their way back. Panetta, unlike Tenet, is likely to be more willing to speak truth to power. The CIA will never be a "goody two-shoes" outfit (it has murdered too many people in the name of national security), but at least it could be something akin to the FBI; something ethical, moral Americans need not be ashamed of. Also, CIA director is not the top intelligence job anymore. Panetta would report to Admiral Blair, the director of national intelligence and overseer of 16 intelligence gathering agencies, most of which are under the DoD.

The fact that a moron like Keith Olbermann is questioning Feinstein or Rockefeller on getting their hackles up about Panetta makes me think that they are right. Olbermann is a stupid moron who needs to go and get a job that would be tailor made for him. However, I don't know if Olbermann could make much money drooling.

Well, at least it's change when you appoint someone with no experience in what an agency does to head that agency! Slowly but surely all this Obama nonsence and hype will begin to unravel. The budget deficit is projected to be over a trillion dollars in '09. All Obama knows is spend, spend, spend! He never was qualified to run for President. He is not qualified to be President and never will be. The country is just going to hell in a bucket! Get ready for another war, Hillary (our next Secretary of State) says an attack on Israel is an attack on the USA!

The hypocrocy of liberals is beyond description. Could they at least admit that they want to keep their hands clean but do want everything possible done to keep us from more terrorist attacks ( and I, for now, will assume that they do in fact want us to be protected...particularly since they are now in power and could not blame others)?

By appointing a person who has such an aversion to field work, an already emasculated CIA will be further handcuffed. Experienced operatives will resign and retire in greater numbers out of frustration and we will again be left without any humint. It was this lack that has hurt us for the last 20+ years. Electronic surveillence just doen't get it done...and now they want to put a person of tender sensabilities in charge? There won't be enough of us left standing to point fingers after this fiasco.

Play the game. Put someone who can and will take the political heat and blame for getting the job done and protecting us. Then everyone can save face... and also survive.

If your way worked, the Dems wouldn't be in office.

I disagree, but in 4 or 8 years the results will prove one of us wrong. We'll just have to wait for the future to really know anything. Your see, I beliieve that our constitution, and its protections, are the result of a social contract between iour country's citizens and its government. I do NOT believe non-citizens are a party to it and certainly illegal immegrents, who have not come here by the rules, should not be allowed the contractual benefits.
The CIA is dealing in a very dangerous world and I do not understand our tying their hands behind their back and then expecting them to get results. The fallacy that by being nice to accused terrorists will somehow make the rest of the world respect us has never made sense. I do believe that when your president releases those in Guantaname that are not convicted we will see some interesting developments.
It was one thing to use the situation to snipe at the Republicans for political purposes. That is fair and only to be expected. But upon wining to actually take a step that stands to weaken the CIA further is just insane. If he follows throught on this, Obama will need more than being good and/or lucky...he will need a blinking miracle. And so will we.

"The fallacy that by being nice to accused terrorists will somehow make the rest of the world respect us has never made sense. "

Who said be nice to them? Try them, and then hang them.

You've never even read your constitution, have you? It is not a list of rights, legally, but a restriction of governmental powers...ergo, unless citizenship is specifically called off (amendment II, for example), your constitution applies to anyone in American jusisdiction or custody.

The CIA is what has kept us safe since 9/11. I can't believe he doesn't want any associated with that track record. What people don't realize is one misstep by the CIA could result in a lot more than two buildings being blown up next time. Only thing is, by the time you realize we're in trouble - it's too late.

    • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 01/07/2009 10:27:48 AM

I think you answered your own question. Of course the CIA has done there job and will continue to do so. What President Obama will do is to take the Politic out of it. He wants the unvarnished verififiable truth from the CIa. he doesn't want to hear what they think he wants to hear. The CIA will become stronger and more effective if they are allowed to do what they do best. Correling a bunch of prisoners into torture cells is not what the CIA should be doing. Gathering information to keep us one step ahead of our enemies is what they do best.

"The CIA will become stronger and more effective if they are allowed to do what they do best. "

        Botched assassinations?

"The CIA is what has kept us safe since 9/11"

This is the same CIA that tried to kill Castro with an exploding seashell, yes? They're a joke. Your INS is doing far more to protect you than those incompetent jokes at Langley.

  • Posted By: josemarti @ 01/06/2009 3:06:44 PM

Panetta is the perfect choice. Smart. Disciplined. Experienced. Unassuming. Tough. No one is better qualified to completely emasculate the CIA and make us more vulnerable to terrorism.

    • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 01/06/2009 3:15:59 PM

Bosh. The CIA isn't worth a damn, anyway.

      • Posted By: paproudmom @ 01/07/2009 10:51:31 AM

In these times of terrorism it is so wise to reduce our tools to protect ourselves.

        • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 01/07/2009 11:30:39 AM

The CIA couldn't protect their own *** if you bolted boiler plate to it. They're a world-wide joke in the intelligence community. Remember Eugene Hausenfaus? There's your vaunted CIA.

If the mouth-breathing Bush/cheney defenders from the dwindling GOP party of hate get any scarcer, we'll have to argue both sides of the issue. Check out notsoquietmajority's comments. His retort to my attack on the hate mongers was to accuse me of hating African Americans. Is that the feeblest excuse for a defense of his evaporating Rebublican party?

  • Posted By: sburbnman @ 01/07/2009 8:01:28 AM

So now the Reps having shown their incompetence and lack of qualifications to run the country, start becoming backseat drivers and Monday morning quarterbacks shouting "sour grapes!". When will you allow others a benefit of a doubt and allow them to run this country which you totally ran into the dirt?

Folks, This is off topic, but with all the fears about things in general, about American politics, the Middle East, energy and others expressed at these sites, many of which I share, I thought I would share this presentation by Paul Stamets:

    http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/paul_stamets_on_6_ways_mushrooms_can_save_the_world.html

It was sent to me. I almost did not listen to it because it is 17 minutes long. It is not silly or kooky. It is an interesting and uplifting presentation about one aspect of the web of life I knew nothing about. Surely there is more for us to learn about many things.

I believe most who invest the time, will be glad they did. To the rest of you, well.... :-)

Hi 40, Go ahead and say it. the ones who aren't interested are in the dark. A lot like a Mushroom, you could say. Stamet has several books out that are worth reading. I'm squeezing the lime as we speak. C.U. manana.

What a day for the Dems. With all these missteps coming at such a furious pace, it makes one wonder how effective Washington DC as a whole will be in about 6 months. If this is any indication, the Dems will soon resemble the person who aces the job interview, but winds up a complete bust. I say Obama is a Lame Duck after the 2010 elections.

    • Posted By: Berserker @ 01/06/2009 5:27:39 PM

I think you are being unfair to the democrats. The fact is that all politicians have the same track record. After all, anyone who takes a job does so because they are being paid enough to make it rewarding...clearly the money being paid politicians is not comenserate to the responsibility they take on, so either 1. they want the power over others and the money means little, or 2. they can see how they can augment that money thing. There was a reason that political office holders were made exempt from prosecution under the RICO statutes.

Oh, one more thing...there really isn't anything such as a free linch. When you buy politicians' promises, you are asking to be rotated firmly into the wall. Don't whine about it later...proudly admit to your stupidity. You worked hard for it and deserve everything you get. Oxymorons of the year: ":public service", "honest politician", "good government,"et.al., and I certainly won't take the space to define what "Trust Me" translates into...

I thought that Harleyishere was in line for the CIA. Maybe Harley can become the White House garbage man.

  • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 01/06/2009 4:48:45 PM

The Democrats will get over it when they see the results that Panetta produces. Bush, Cheney and Rice are on the verge of soiling their under garmets because they know their dispicable acts will soon be made public. Chalk this up as another nail in the coffin of the GOP party of hate.

  • Posted By: sieg6529 @ 01/06/2009 4:36:13 PM

This is what was the undoing of the Democrats at the beginning of Bill Clinton's tenure; pointless infighting. It's almost like they want to guarantee that they will lose Congress in the next elections.
