I think Dan hit the nail on the head. For you driveling idiots that think Apple is total innovation, the iPhone became 3g only TWO YEARS after everyone else was running 3g devices and networks. And yes, Apple IS the way of the future... 10 YEARS AGO!!!! That's what Microsoft has been aware of and sadly inept at redesigning itself for (hence the VISTA nightmere). But Apple has "cooled" itself into a deadend street by not making what people (and business) really need. They've instead made a toy here and there and then hyped the public into buying into it enmasse. iPhone's not enough to make you see that? How 'bout the Macbook, which is useless for nearly any serious computing work besides checking e-mail or surfing the web. A bit pricey for an e-machine don't you think? And when was the last time you could reasonably upgrade ANY Apple device?
Dan, good job reporting on Jobs and the whole Mac-not event.

and for the record I use both Macs and PCs and they both have thier respective failings.

In deference to you, it was a truly a bore. However, you can't expect AAPL to sizzle every time. It's been a great run for them and they are between product cycles, so expect more great things from them down the road. Patience grasshopper.

According to the writer (who writes w/ more of a grudge than reporting) we're to assume the explosion of iPhones in the market and the clamoring for them, Apple's market share is evaporating? Ho hum...find some meat to write about next time.

oh and by the way Mr. Lyons, I'm in the process of putting money away to save up for an iTouch. Don't worry, you're article ISNT EFFECTING ANYBODY. Have fun with your Vista.

Personally, I feel like our generation of Apple users are completely spoiled with what Apples has to offer, causing this writer???s reaction. Ever since the Apple Corporation was started, Apple has always had the first and the best products; always coming out with the most high-tech and high quality new gadgets. In my opinion, I feel like Apple isn???t getting enough credit for what they have done in the past. With the amazing innovation that was put into the iPod, iBook, iPhone, and now iLife, there should be nothing to complain about. The fact that Apple has nothing new to offer doesn???t really affect me personally, because I am completely satisfied with my Apple purchases. However, for the loyal followers of Apple who have to get everything their precious Apple has to offer, this is like the apocalypse, because they can???t buy another overpriced item that just makes their life more entertaining, and maybe a little easier. To many people in the US and the world, this may seem like a letdown. This event is important to the people whose lives depend on Apple products who were rightfully expecting something new at this convention to change their lives. With all due respect, where those people were correct in assuming there was something new, they should have been paying attention to the speaker rather than buying another ???App??? in the ???App store??? on their iPhone.

I love the bashing of the article....'cause it's only the exact same thing I have seen on Slate, Wired, CNET and a dozen others...clearly Apple has loads of vim and vigour with a CEO on the way out and a new battery! Wooo!

Dan, you need to learn how to attack the "idea" and not the "person." Calling Mr Schiller a schlub is uncalled for as are your rants about Mr Jobs' health. So you didn't like Macworld...I didn't either for that matter but your personal attacks put you into the slum category of reporters. You need a new job and I hope Newsweek finds you one.

You want him to put elk horns on macs or something? Best dam computer on the market. Your grandaddy is probably the one who asked Cadillac to put those gaudy fins on way back there in the 1940's. Sheesh.

You wrote a blog about a movie about a battery. Self reflection seems appropriate.

Dan, you need to get laid. All of your commentaries as of late have been pouty and just plain snarky. No sizzle, no humor. To be honest, you remind me of all too mny 'filthy hacks' that Fake Steve Jobs (hey! remember him?) railed against....

NO way man. I'm a PC user myself... but just this very month I have finally become convinced that Apple is the way of the future. What with iPhone's being freaking awesome and Window's Vista sucking some major ass-- I will definitely be a Mac user the next time I need a new computer. Apple has finally become ubiquitous and stable enough to win die-hard PC users like myself. I think Microsoft is the company that needs to take a serious look at the crap they are putting out.

Dan Lyons you are an idiot. Now I normally don't believe in making things personal but you clearly have no problem with attacking people personally (your incessant blather about Jobs' health and calling Schiller a Schlub spring to mind) so I figured you wouldn't mind.

I wonder if the bosses at Newsweek realize how much credibility your pathetic columns destroy. Newsweek is becoming a joke of a 'news' organization.

Dan, you were once a good read as Fake Steve Jobs but that act wore thin and all that's left is your no talent, idiotic rants.

I look forward to the day that you have no audience.

Maybe Apple didn't come up with anything new this year, but they have finally become common and stable enough to start switching over some die-hard PC users.

What's the matter, Dan? Your endless sleazebag death-watch "predictions" are not coming to fruition? It's no talent hacks like yourself who "fueled yet more speculation about Job's health" with your yellow-journalism b.s. Just about every metric one could use to measure the company shows that it's doing phenomenally. Every competitor is playing catchup to nearly all of their product categories. Of course, it was you who said you'd be shocked if Jobs was still CEO in the new year. I guess that shows the value of your editorials. Run out of gas? Isn't that phrase that would better describe your own career?

If you accept that Jobs is a master marketeer, you'll have to think two or three steps ahead to figure out what today's keynote communicated. Often what Apple doesn't announce is more telling than what they do announce. One insight may be that Phil's not "the one" to replace. Another is that they may be resetting expectations (lower) so that they can then take everyone back up another higher peak of interest/excitement. This is, after all, a company that is in the entertainment business...thought of in that context you might deem today's event as just one act in a long play.
