The hypocrisy was his. He created the church's mentality. He was good friends with George Bush.. That alone is enough reason to burn in hell with other hypocrites like Karl Rove.

I know that's right! !!!
Mr. Haggard, please...you were no more born an evangelical than you were born an insurance salesman, although there is not much difference between the two. You "over repented" because what you had done, you have been doing for a long time and as such, no one taught you to be bisexual (which you are). A young person cannot be "taught" to be homosexual or bisexual. You may experiment for a short time but one usually follows what nature has given him: the capacity to relate to both sexes sexually and emotionally or the capacity to relate to one or the other of the sexes....exclusively. You obviously are expressing your sexuality as a bisexual now, like hundreds of thousands of other men, all too evident if you know where to look to find them. So be it. God will be your judge and only God. If you have the capacity to forgive yourself then you have the capacity to look beyond those who enslave you. Go to the United Church of Christ and start preaching and practicing forgiveness and inclusiveness and get off of your pity pot. Your relationship should be with God, not with your man made church. Within every man made entity there is flaw. The so called New Life Church is full of them. Search out the one being who can forgive you for all your sins, past, present and future. He died for our sins...all of them. Jesus Christ will forgive and accept you for what you are...flawed like all of mankind.
while god is gracous, allowing this man the opportunity to right his wrongs. it is my prayer that he will divine the truth. Homosexuality is not a learned behaviour for most. Consult the human genome project and learn. I pray the day will come when we make a concerted effort to stop condeming people for elements of their genetics. It is that free will that you often preached that allows the Christian right to chose NOT to learn the science behind homosexuality or non heterosexuality. Doing so would require them to repent for years of castigating a population undeserving. While I am not homosexual or heterosexual, i pray for people like these hatemongers. They are pious men who preach, but do not live "Christ like." I know my God will not condemn me for the very genes she graced me with.
darling pleeze gay or straight it doesnt matter but there is no jesus/god its all hokus /pokus a total money making scam, a fraud 24/7
where did this guy's money go? $140,000 per year plus whatever he makes from his merchandise and appearances and we're expected to believe that he and his family are destitute? not to mention he's an egomanical bigot. poor little ted haggard. he made hundreds of thousands (if not millions) preaching against homosexuality, drug use, and marital infidelity while practicing all three and now we're supposed to feel bad for him? as christopher hitchens once said of jerry falwell, it's a shame there isn't a hell for him to go to.
Get a grip Ted!!for that matter Get a Grip America --- Mr. Haggard YOU ARE A HOMOSEXUAL and guess what THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!! God doesn't make mistakes when he creates people!! While it concerns me and I'm sure others that you say one thing yet do another I resolve myself to the fact that alas you are human.....Tell me Ted, while you were manipulating people out of 10% of their income or more, while you were preaching against Homosexuality and at the same time slobbin some guy's knob did you ever ask yourself what would the impact of your actions have on people??? I would most likely guess that the answer to that question is NO!! NO because what it really boiled down to was multifold-- First you had needs and still do according to your statments..Second, your income was also in jeopardy --Enough of my ranting but in closing I will impart the following to whoever chooses to read this-- Ted not only are you Gay but your a liar, a manipulator, a con man and self centered!! Shame on you!! Shame on you for messing with peoples faith!!!
There is no such thing as "being gay". Only fools still believe that. Homosexuality is a behavior--not a class of people--and it is a choice. No one is born that way and THAT is what science is proving. If idiot duke613 did his homework, he'd know better than to make ridiculous statements about black & white issues. There is homosexual behavior...but no true "homosexuals" just the twisted behavior born out of psychosis. We may have taken "homosexuality" out of the DSM, a manual describing various psychological abnormalities, but that doesn't make it "normal". Even animals know to mate in male/female relations. People are the dumb ones that try to hook up in unnatural ways.
well you do sound like an expert closet case for sure! are you the guy that was getting it on with dobson???
Comments like this don't surprise me, they are usually spun up from someone rooted in the church (IE - lots of fear, hypocrisy, and denial under a nice sugar-coated exterior of bible thumping and prayers). Animals actually do have what we would consider to be homosexual tendencies. Ever seen a dog humping another dog? Sign of dominance usually, but that's an example I know even you have seen in your closed off little life.
You don't understand that the rest of us can see your obvious weakness and fear. The louder you scream your silly obvious lies, the louder we hear 'closet case'.
No, it is true, I don't know about Ted, but people are born gay, it happens every day
I watched VERY closely as the leadership of New Life Church dealt with Ted and the crisis he created. They were amazingly gracious to Ted, both in the way they handled him and the way they didn't trash him. Even privately, I have not heard ONE leader at New Life say ONE unkind thing about him.
And they did set up a group of peers around him to help him through his darkness. Ted's comments just show he is yet realize how much one persons mistakes can cost others...which is what he preached on very eloquently.
cont.. I was a dedicated member of the church, involving myself, family and friends in many areas like volunteering for custodial help after weekly services and even traveling internationally on mission work. I blatantly covered my eyes to the real world around me, this wonderfully humanistic and evolutionary planet, full of love and life from all aspects of culture, only due to the singular and selfish belief that my religious sect is the correct, divine and just route to God, openly disregarding the freedoms of cultural and religious constitution that I in fact claim to deliver through the salvation of Christ. I taught, thought and believed that if one did not submit to the power and blood of Jesus as his savior (as I did), he were doomed to the fires of hell to be accompanied by the angel of darkness in his lake of fire for eternity upon death and afterlife; an extremely sheltered life that truly raised me to fear the unknown equations of this gift of existence, instead of positively encouraging me to embrace the unfamiliar, as I now understand is the only path humans must journey to become more God-like, not some magical phrase or set of words that grace you from ultimate destruction.
I forgive "Pastor" Ted for his "sins" and for his unrelenting damage to those who loved and trusted him here in the community of Colorado Springs. Many, however, do not share that sentiment of forgiveness and even harbor hatred and animosity for him still. His decision to move back to this town and begin a self-profiting, and quite cliché sleaze-ball occupation in the heart of a community still decimated by his selfish action, may be tougher to chew than he'll be ready for. As I have learned from this arduous healing process, far more Christians, as it turns out, are not so forgiving of their transgressors as they claim to be.
I for one, would be elated to never again see his name or his stories on the national front.

oh jezus mother maria you complain just a little too much. you and your family could have said "ok the guy is gay , so what"? the problem is that your family and the church makes outcast of gays and lesbians and as we now well know the churches are full of closet cases!! just wait when the tv program 60 min will have a program of your hero dobson taking care of 9 inchers!! what are you gonna do than???
RMP - I also was a member of his church when it was in a tiny little shack off of Garden of the Gods with 100 members. Though "the scales fell from my eyes" several years prior to all of this garbage, I'm glad to see that you are living a healthy lifestyle now. It's just sad that so many people put their faith, and weave their entire existence and beliefs, based on one man that is no different than the rest of us. Oh... wait... isn't that what the entire christian religion has done with... wait... what's that guys name... starts with a "J"....
I wish Ted Haggard and his family only the best. I'm not familiar with his ministry and don't know if he was a fire-and-brimstone type preacher but he did espouse a philosophy of discrimination against many people; the self-righteous Right Wing which for years has been telling us liberal heathens just how rotten we are while they are the bearers of righteousness. Yet, we are all not that different, are we? And while many people in Haggard's community became rich and rode the wave of power during the Bush years, thinking we reached the end of history and they were right, that their political philosophy had won, but were blind to their own shadows. We are ALL flawed, liberals and conservatives, black and white, red and brown, Dems and Reps... we're human, the trick is to keep walking and lend your brother or sister a helping hand instead of judging them.
I hope that Ted can use this experience to become a more well-rounded person and that the arrogant bunch who looks at the rest of us as somehow lesser than they are just because we don't believe as they do, will see that Christianity was always about good works, not about judging your brother. The fact that so many of his community turned their backs on him, while a San Francisco liberal, no less, has not forgotten him does say a lot. I'm not going to judge Haggard's community for the way they've reacted towards him but it behooves them to see if they are living up to their own standards as "Christians". I grew up with an understanding that Christianity was about service, right now what passes for it is a bastardized version that sees church as big business for preachers and a political mobilization tool (for elected officials who -turns out- are even more corrupt) which only wants to assure people that their prejudices are right and to vote accordingly.
I wish Ted the best.
God loves straights and gays alike. Anyone who preaches otherwise preaches blasphemy, and will ultimately be judged by the lord. Anyone who preaches that God is anything but a loving God, is an ignorant fool and a false prophet. There is no argument about it, God created each and every one of his children exactly as they are, therefore he loves them EXACTLY AS THEY ARE!
Just so I make sure I have this correctly (from a guy who lied to pretty much everyone all the time until he was caught): A person learns to be gay; a person learns to be an addict; but that same person is born an evangelical?
Reverand Ted should be glad there is no Hell, because if there was, a very deep circle would be reserved for hipocrites like hm.
Rich Monk, God bless you! You remind me of myself back when i was lost. I, too, spoke out like you are doing now! Then I met Jesus & He turned my life around! I love you & hope & pray He reaches you before it's too late! God can always use someone who's not afraid to speak their mind!
Just so I have this straight (from a guy who lied to pretty much everyone until he was caught): Someone learns to be gay, someone learns to be an alcoholic --but that same someone is BORN an evangelical?
If there is a HELL, this guy is going to have his own concentric circle.
To have actually known this man and his family personally, I am most sad for the negative namesake he has created for his wonderful children and future grandchildren. His dishonesty has completely changed my view on Christianity, not unlike many others destroyed by this event here in Colorado Springs. My family and I became life-long congregates and devotees of New Life in the early 1990???s, before the time the church was 200 members strong. I whole-heartedly believed and entrusted in this man???s seemingly "unshakeable" faith; enough to regard him as a true man, even a messenger of God. We (the church) collectively put him on too high of a pedestal and he failed us (Christians), in possibly the worst way, he became a liar and hypocrite, both of which he proclaimed to despise.
I distinctly remember his sermon, not a year before his controversial admission, on the dangers of hypocrisy and how easily our sins and betrayals toward others inappropriately portray the message of Jesus to the unsaved. How about the message sent to his ???saved??? congregation after these actions came to daylight and mass public scrutiny? Did he ever once consider the possible effects that would ripple through our homes and community as the result of his contradictions? He flat-out embarrassed the church and most of this city to make a fool of the religion that so many faithful clung to.
Myself and my family, individually and collectively, became so distraught by this event (not that this fallible human being is a homosexual drug addict finally brought to confession by a prostitute, but that such a trusted and revered figure could fall so far from the glory he preached) that even my parents (who were married for just over 30 years and also former members of New Life) separated and divorced just 8 months after due to their own infidelity, my teenage brother welcomed to the world his first child with his un-wed girlfriend, and as for me, I no longer hold many of those same values I held so dear just 2 years ago.

oh jezus maria pleeze just because he took care of this muscle dudes weenie this shouldnt ruin your life, pleeze???
How sad for you sir that you would spend all that effort on trusting a man rather than the God he represented. Man is the fallible creation of a perfect God. Man will almost always fail but God is always there. Perhaps if you could give that dedication to "God instead of some man, you might find so peace and understanding in your life.
I attended Ted's church a couple of times back in the '80s; I enjoyed it very much. However i saw a problem there that plagues all denominations/congregations. The elevation of the pastor anto a very high status & moving them to a "demi-god" status. Much adoration &, yes, even worship, is heaped upon them. Soon it goes to their heads, & why wouldn't it? Mr. Haggard's congregation must accept their share of the blame.
God did not make Ted haggard Gay/bisexual. God did not make Ray Boltz gay, causing him tobreak his marriage vows, leave his wife of 30 ears to live the active gay-life style that he has chosen. God does not make serial killers to kill people. Original sin does that. God transforms those lives, Saying that it's okay because God made me that way is reaching for a cheap rational.
the difference between being gay and being a serial killer is that there is nothing wrong with being gay. Being gay is about as wrong as being left handed. It may not be accepted un some cultures, but, ultimately it does not hurt anybody. The same cannot be said about being racist or homophobic.
Religion is fiction, God is superstition, what more than to have a con man like haggard sell anything, insurance , cars, drugs. He is a bum like the rest of "all" religious leeches than prey on the weak minded. Spinless, clueless and pure bullshit. He and religion are the scurge of the Planet!
oh jezus maria you are so right its a total moneymaking scam a 24/7 fraud!!
I am deeply concerned that any church would banish someone who is seeking help from any sin. How many of his former congregants haven committed adultery, fornication? How many of the board members that made him sign such a ridiculous agreement havent looked at a female congregant and lusted in thier own heart. The Church is failing miserably and we need to reclaim it. Jesus came to seek and save the lost....what part of restoration means banishment? No wonder Christians do not attend very often any longer.

Wow, this article brings me to tears. There is such a lack of demonstrating Christ's love to this brother and his family. I pray that the Lord would send people Ted's way to minister to him in love. Discipline according the Bible is necessary but I think to "ban" someone from living in a city he/she desires is out right ridiculous. This is why so many people mask in church and try to cover what they struggle with. Whew....this is so humbling and shows how much we need to be transformed and walking examples of Christ's love in the world.
