Being gay or straight is a black and white issue. You either are or you are not. There is no wondering or questioning. If you are attracted to both sexes you are bisexual. He also doesn't understand human sexuality. People are born gay. It is an innate, God given, unchangable, wonderful part of a person, just like being straight. Being gay is decided at birth, something every gay person knows and scientists are proving more and more. Gay people are everywhere, in every walk of life and part of your families.

Your notion of being born gay is pure BS and you know it. All you are doing is trying to justify your own behavior. Answer this. Why is the human being the only species on earth that has sex with its own gender? I guess God thought so highly of homosexuality that he made it exclusive to humans. Choose what you like, just don't lie about it. If you want to be gay, fine with me. why do you want to try and deceive others as to your choices. Make them and accept them. But you do have a choice.

That is a lie. There has not been one scientist that has 100% proven there is a "Gay" gene. It has been a theory & it has been alluded to but it has not been published as a noted fact or even a contested fact based on evidence by any legitimate publication. Stop stating things as fact in order to justify your position & perpetrate a falsehood. At this time in life being gay is a choice & it is disputed mostly by Gay people that it is not a choice. The facts proving Nature vs. nurture have not been successfully proven. As for it not being a choice ancient Greece shows that Men had sex with boys because to have sex with a woman was only for reproduction. Women were seen as defiled creatures that would usurp the strength and virility of a man. Modern day truth says if you have intercourse with the same sex you are gay. So were they gay or were thy rules by a social and environmental norm?

For someone whose name is factsnotfiction, you seem to be heavy on fiction, not facts. And what is this nonsense about 'legitimate publication'. Can you name a single peer-reviewed science journal (hint : not national geographic).

" I wanted to overrepent, and I think I did overrepent. " How does one overrepent? I think Ted is maybe seeking the forgiviness of man and not truly God.

Where is the Love of God, being shown to Ted Haggard, this man has a spiritual problem.
The Chruch is supposed to be a place of spiritual renewal and restoration.
It is a shame that people place themselves in God but then don't act and respond according to the word of God.

" Felled by their own sins..." Mr. Dokolpil, you make this excersize appear to be an exclusive event peculiar to fallen evangelical preachers. What else are we felled by besides OUR OWN SINS?
Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God".

  • Posted By: Ferdydurke @ 01/10/2009 10:40:26 AM

Rev. Haggard's path to a recovery and redemtion must begi with an acknowledgement that he is either gay or bisexual. Also, since he is a Christian, he needs to consider and, eventually accept a proposition that God created him this way - perhaps for a purpose.

" Felled by their own sins".
Hmm, Mr. Dokoupil, what other sin fells us besides our own?
Romans 3:23. "For all have fallen short of the Glory of God."

"weaving your hatred into MY relationship with God"
hatred is an agenda, like anything else, who remembers the inquisition?
Do yourself a favor christians, stop following someone else, start thinking for yourselves, and maybe, just maybe you as an individual will find a salvation greater than a belief system. Good luck, you'll need it.

Moses, Aaron and Miriam were considered "congregation leaders." When Miriam sinned against Moses she received leprosy and she was put outside of the camp. HOWEVER the camp was not allowed to move forward until she was healed AND received back into the camp. God's reputation does not need protecting by the church. However, we have become "unsafe" children of God to be with. What would happen to the church in America if it stopped all of its activities to see one "fallen" healed, restored (for real) and received back into the fold without a "debt" to the reputation of the church? My belief is that even though churches think they have moved on, they are still at a standstill, the way we are individually when we do not really and truly forgive, forget and help people toward healing and true restoration.

Ted Haggart's repentence and plea for forgiveness were heard by God and, we must assume, granted. New Life Church (of which I am not a member, nor do i live in Colorado) has also taken his repentence seriously and his plea for forgiveness was granted. The issue here is not about forgiveness or judging or casting stones. The issue has to do with leaders who fall. As a leader among leaders in the American church, Ted Haggart had huge influence and a massive following. When he fell, trust was shattered. The hypocrisy of preaching publicly one thing and living another and covering it up, and having that publicly exposed, caused humiliation and great hurt across the Body of Christ. New Life Church has rightly tried to create space and time for healing to come and trust to eventually be rebuilt.

If Ted Haggard was truly the 'leader' of anything, he would have been the humblest servant of them all, not drawing the highest paycheque and standing on stages giving fiery, pompous speeches.

Ted, like all of us must stop eating from the tree of" knowledge of good and evil" if he wants to eat from the "tree of life." This is first for others than for himself. Either Jesus paid the price for ALL sin or he did not. The church in it's present state has no grace for Ted or for itself because the harsh mearuring stick it uses on others is inposed on herself by God.When the news broke about Ted the Spirit spoke to me and said "don't mock, but mourn because a Prince has fallen in Israel today." I have prayed for Ted to complete his spiritual evolution and believe he will lead the people of New Life to a better understanding of life and grace. Godspeed, Brother Haggard.

WE wonder why the churched in america are emtpy, and that the country has turned away from Christian morals and standards because of legalism in our churches. As long as you look, act and sound like a part of the christian culture and give 10% your okay. Anything else out of the ordinary, the church has "issues" with you. We have become so closed minded and focus only on numbers in attendence, the mega churches and TV pastors are revolting. How do you as a Pastor "minster" to your "flock" when you dont know the person name in the front row. Church was designed by Jesus to minster to the people needs like Ted`s. my question is this as to how many Ted`s are their walking around in churches or are just your neighbor? God only knows! because most mega churches like New Life don`t care!

As a human being who is fallen and has fallen, Ted Haggard's repentence and plea for forgiveness has been heard by God and granted, and has been taken seriously by New Life church and granted. I do not believe that it is a question of forgiveness or of judging and casting stones. The question comes in concerning a leader who had massive influence and a vast following. What should happen when someone in that kind of position sins and it comes out publicly? Trust has been shattered. The hypocrisy of preaching one thing and living something else, and keeping it hidden through deception, has caused hurt to many. For leaders who fall, there are different kinds of consequences, and one is that enough space and time need to be placed between them and their ministries until healing can come and trust can be rebuilt. That, and not forgiveness, is the issue here.

There is a special place of repugnance in the heart of christians for homosexuals. If Ted Haggard's sin would have been with a woman he would still have his congregation after a short time of repentance and re-commitment. Ted's sin was to be brutally honest and transparent at a time when the church was not ready for it. His wife and children deserve medals and God will love him the more for it. I have the same beliefs he has but I have seen the "shunting" a church dispenses for fear of contamination. God is with you Ted, keep walking!

This is exactly the kind of comment that makes the secular world think that all believers are narrow minded gay bashers. I am a Christian and DO NOT feel repugnance toward the gays or anyone else! Stop weaving your hatred into MY relationship with God.

There is a special place of repugnance in the heart of some people for homosexuals. They are not so much "Christian" as "garden variety bigots".

Everyone here is missing the whole point its not about judgement its about forgiveness!! The Church in america is all about numbers and booking selling not truly about seeking the lost. Ted was overthrown as anyone who "manages" a sucessful business, should be, but to cast him aside as dead wrong. Who is New Life to cast the "first stone."

  • Posted By: lolujan @ 01/10/2009 9:51:57 AM

christian is just a name or label true christianity like Jesus would of treated Ted Haggard like the woman at the well who was married to several men in adultry he said to her go and sin no more. I am embarrassed as a christian that his church treated him like this, shame on this church, there are churches out there that don';t God loves Ted and forgives him and the church's main job is to restore. The church in america has become nothing but a business or a corporation trying to make budget .. the church is suppose to be a hospital and a place of restoration. I would never step foot in New Life /church after reading this article

    Dear Michael45,
You stated "It never fails to amaze me how those who don't go to church will strut around and tell believers how they are doing it wrong." I take it then you would rather have me come to yiour church and say tell you are wrong there - I doubt that. I stopped go to church because I don't bellieve anymore. If I did believe, I would go to church. It's not real complicated, so stop being so amazed.

    • Posted By: barney301 @ 01/10/2009 9:50:25 AM

Actually I said that in a reply to Micheal45. What I was trying to say is that I get judged all the time on my relationship with God by people who don't go to church or claim to be believers. I really think that we all need to get our noses out of other peoples business and stick them back into the Bible. All to often people outside the church take the tidbits of knowledge they have on religion and then judge me based on fractured understanding. For example, people see the cross on my neck and assume I hate gays, which is far from the truth. The Bible says it is a sin like any other but people who hate gays now have this big stick to go beat them up with. That is twisting the Word to fit their own personal bias. My lust and greed and judgement is no better or worse than their same sex desires and I think the church as a group has been way out of line with how it has treated the gay community. It's like when the media tears apart someone in a high profile criminal case and the public gets the idea that they know everything about the inner workings of the mind of the accused because they read the morning paper, then when the FACTS are presented to the jury and he walks free the people get all bent out of shape because they KNOW he was guilty.

Most of all I think that the Bible was meant to be read and absorbed on a personal level, I really don't go to church anymore either. My relatonships with the people in my life is unique in each case, so I think that each Christian should have a unique relationship with God that they find through reading the Bible and talking to God. I find it hard to understand how one person can inturprete the Word for all the church to follow. The bible warns us about putting faith in man, yet the New Life congregation did just that, we have ourselves to blame if that messes up our faith. Believe in God...not Ted.

It is a sad fact of reality that people don't like to forgive. Forgiveness goes more than one way. It is everyone's free will that leads them to do what they do. The devil is real and tempts everyone. He enjoys it. Religion has usurped science many times in the flaws of the world. I don't want anyone to go to hell. Hell is a horrible place. I continue to pray for people who don't believe in God; they don't really understand the consequences of their actions. May Jesus be with you all.

    • Posted By: davidschulze @ 01/10/2009 9:42:44 AM

My experience has taught me that people in the church do not forgive. Outside the church if you offend someone and apologize they accept your apology, invite you to a BBQ and slap a beer in your hand. I would rather deal with 20 unchurched people than one saint.

      • Posted By: Johnzo Bonzo @ 01/10/2009 9:49:55 AM

The people making the most noise about being 'christian' are quite often the least trustworthy. Many atheists I have met in life have much more grasp of what Jesus taught than his self-proclaimed followers.

  • Posted By: mx4315 @ 01/10/2009 8:58:43 AM

Christ died for our sins past, present, and future. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son to die on the cross. that whosoever BELIVES in him shall have everlasting life. John 3:16 THat is God's Grace sufficiant for all sin. Yes Sin is Sin and we need to repent but just because we fall, we have no right to judge, We will all be Judged on Judgement day when we face the Lord. Jesus came to the world not to condem the world but to save the world by his love. So if you are Gay, bisexual or heterosexual you still must be born again in order to enter the kingdom of heaven.

    • Posted By: Tamaraja @ 01/10/2009 9:16:48 AM

Really? Born again is the only way, huh? I'm sure the rest of the world's Christians and religions would disagree with you. I believe in God, not in man's religion.

      • Posted By: Johnzo Bonzo @ 01/10/2009 9:46:36 AM

The problem with talking with fundamentalist of ANY religion, is they are too brainwashed to have any kind of perspective on the situation. They, and they alone, have the direct line from God, who makes it clear his other commandments of love and acceptance MUST be overruled by, whatever, homosexuality, women teachers, men shaving their beards. Anything that threatens the system of control and dominance that has held sway for thousands of years.
