Era Of Good Speaking

The atmosphere demands it, the American people need it. The Inaugural Address should be the first salvo by an orator in chief.

Obama a great orator? He even fumbles around when his teleprompter is working. Obama says nothing. Obama is a President about nothing. Kind of like Seinfeld was a show about nothing. Only difference though was Seinfeld was entertaining. Obama is just boring. I wonder if he is going back on Leno and making another stupid crack about special olympics bowling? The left wing press writes dumb and insensitive commnents like this off. What if Bush had made this comment? Idiots like Keith Olbermann, David Letterman, Jeane Barfolo, Bill "Manure" Maher, and Rachel Madcow would still keep it going.

Dear Ms. Quindlen - Thank you for your eloquence regarding President Obama's eloquence. Yes, he should keep speaking his own words, not others'. I have great hopes for our future (and patience to wait for it), but we do need a leader who will hold up the vision for us. I laughed and cried through the inauguration, thinking..."At last!" Not since Reagan have we been inspired like this. I didn't think much of Reagan's IQ or grasp of the issues at the time, and maybe not even now, but he did, with his words, inspire the fall of the Berlin Wall. I believe that Obama will accomplish even more. Thank you for your vision of what we need, and how Obama's speeches are a big part of it..

Words, words, words. We are swamped with vacuous speeches written by skillful speech-writers and make the mistake of believing proclamations and are outcomes. I would like to hear a speech penned exclusively by Obama. In the coming years I will form my opinion of the man and his integrity and effectiveness. Not today.

    • Posted By: Manisthemeasure @ 01/20/2009 10:19:00 AM

Exactly! just like George Bush wrote his own speeches. Well, not to disappoint you, Obama is a celebrated author who has written, at least, two successful books and the word on the street is that the speech we are hearing today is all his. Figure out something else to complain about.

Slavery like any war leaves everyone with a feeling of hate for that ethantisity.Obama has won the war that has kept this United States of America from being just that. One step at a time or one battle at a time. We shall overcome other issues that keep us from progressing with faith in the person in office. But more battles from our future President will rage on at capitol hill. We can all remember that United we stand devided we fall. We still need work on making this OUR United states of America. May we have that President that will be able to accomplish what it takes to unite all in this great nation in making this trully a melting pot. All for one and one for all, cannot be the winner of this war we indure on capitol hill. May
we get past the division of particine politics and get on with stabilizing united in our wonderful America. We have faith in
change and may God Bless all who will partake in making it.

It really defies comprehension that anyone who has sat through the last eight years and seen this country dragged through the mud has the efffrontery to complain about the incoming administration. Sure the guy has not done anything yet and most of his adore is in anticipation of what he promises to do but who knew Americans of all walks of life were so depressed and disillusioned about government until Obama started addressing their concerns. Who knew young people could be interested in politics and willing to stand out in the cold, for hours, to cast their vote, some for the first time?
It seems to me that only those who thrive in discordant conditions would desire the status ante. Nevertheless, Americans, to paraphrase, Winston Churchill always do the right thing, after they have tried everything else, and this time, I think we have it just right.
It's the end of an error, i mean, era and the begining of a new day!

an oracle for the opressed and the ostracised2200 YEARS AGO A MAN HAD A DREAM
HE WANTED TO END COLONISATION AND IMPERIALISM and INSTITUTE EQUALITY -
he was an from a place called the dark continent by some self enlightened misanthropes -
he had the will and the wisdow but was wrecked by treachery AND the wicked -
    HE WAS HANNIBAL
happy homecoming for the hero from the heart of that dark continent FROM THE ANNALS OF HUMAN HISTORY
who reminds me of my dream hero and the legend of hannibal -
may mubarak be the blessed one who can destoy the imperialist obsession of the roman worshippers and their pagan rituals of enslavement and opression still rife on this bleeding planet
obama is OUR optimistic ornament to end the orgy of the opressers against the ostracised -
    obama is that other oracle

    mubarak -blessings -felicitations
i hope a new dawn wakes upon this planet as well -and that day never ends for the opressed and the down trodden who have triumphed over the tyrants today
the amalgamation of the metaphorical oblivion of the tinted obstacle that perished millions of innocent souls and caused immense sufferring will be an objure paradigm henceforth as the black blends into white .

for obama comes to the white house

    Dear Anna,
Your advice is well put together and your comments are very true. President Obama should speak from the heart not through speech writers. We had enough of these phony people. Obama was elected because he exhibited his human side and not a fabricated side.

I support Obama. Only because he is our elected leader and, according to my fundemental biblical beliefs, all leaders, no matter who they are or what they stand for, are ordained by God. However I know the only reason he's our presidnet now is because of his eleoquent speaking and minipulating abilities, he's part African-American, Oprah!, and the Bush blame game. If you don't believe in God at all I can see why someone would put so much faith in someone who has really done NOTHING to deserve all the praise and admiration he's getting. Everyone needs faith in something whether it's Jehoviah, Jesus, Allah, Krishna, Lucifer, Kali, Durga, Lakshmi, Saravati, Earth Goddesses, angels, demons, horoscopes, tooth fairy, evolution, easter bunny and Santa no matter how much of an athiest they claim to be. I guess Obama joins this list.
Thank you to the church called mainstream media.

God bless you, agnstheflow! You are truly an enlightened messenger of God.
I am so thankful that the internet has provided you with a means to spread the gospel. When I was younger, enlighten people such as yourself had to walk the streets wearing a sandwich board in order to get the message out. Isn't technology wonderful?

I really don't think the author of this article needs to worry about Obama's speech tomorrow being overly heavy on facts and specifics. Lord knows, we waited all year for facts and specifics from him and never got any. Probably the closest we got were his remarks to Joe the Plumber, and we really weren't even supposed to hear those. No, the speech tomorrow will be a stirring call to higher order delivered with the cadence of a hell fire and brimstone fundamentalist preacher and the faithful will swoon. But don't expect there to be anything there for the discriminating observers who are grappling for meaningful answers.

Come tomorrow, I am going to keep the radio off, the tv off, and get me a good book and spend the day reading. None of this Obamania for me.

    • Posted By: jamesdweaver @ 01/19/2009 7:51:52 PM

Americans, huh? Your type of Americanism I find appalling. But, perhaps you're right. You need to be in a dark house with no TV, no radio.
The problem is, you won't stay there.

  • Posted By: Concerned Canadian @ 01/19/2009 7:13:03 PM

Obamamania ......rather have Beatlemania !! Obama's speech tomorrow will sound like Rev Wright's speech except he's gonna leave the " God D**** America " part.

    • Posted By: jamesdweaver @ 01/19/2009 7:49:16 PM

Americans like you appall me. You have your place I guess, and perhaps you're even right: You belong in a dark house, with all the tvs and lights off. The problem is, you won't stay there.

  • Posted By: AdamIreland @ 01/19/2009 7:45:16 PM

If Obama is not for you... let Hope be... because in our dark hours all over the world hope is what makes our world a little brighter... God, Allah and any other god you wish to believe in gives that man, women or child hope. I am a godless man but for me who does not believe in heaven or hell, I do believe in the darkness, we are living in and I look for hope to bring the brightness back. Forget the mania but find the hope that this man is bring to your country, embrace it. Don't cast him down, stand beside him and fight for hope. Because a world with out hope is a world no one wants to live in. Stand up and fight America, be better than how the world see's you. Be the becon of hope that you were for so many years. The American dream is dead without hope! May we all find some.

  • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 01/13/2009 6:18:07 AM

Just words...Just speeches(well at least that much was true)HOPE...uuhh...CHANGE...hmmm...BOLD...uhhh...uhhh...TRANPARENCY...but...uhhh(I'm beinging thoughtful like The One)....really cool words...but a little problem...Words will not keep us safe. PEBO and Panetta plan to gut the C.I.A. (Panetta was responsible for declined funding under Clinton), Holder (his planned A.G.) and Reno were responsible for the "WALL" between the C.I.A. and the F.B.I. The combination of these two decisions greatly increased the risk to us...resulting in 9/11.

Bush for whatever faults you make find...kept us from being attacked again. Now "The One" wants to destroy that safety net...does he want us hit??? Makes me curious. We know very little about our soon to be Prez. Heck we don't even know where he was born for sure. He's spent One MILLION dollars to keep it a secret.

We will be attacked. I'm sure the BarackStar will soundly chastise and condemn the action. Heck he will probably even bomb a fertilizer plant to show he means business.

Maybe the answer is to accept Islam and institute Sharia law. I'm sure PEBO would find that acceptable.

    Allah Akbar Y'all

    NOBAMA!!!

I believe the attacked occured during this admiistration watch. Maybe he was too busy with his plans to occupy Iraq that he took his eye off the ball.

We are all Americans and, with our incoming president, can take our great country toward the changes that are essential and needed. God bless this great country, the opportunities it can provide to all, and the historic times we now share as a country. Finally, finally we are one! On Tuesday we face the sunshine of a new beginning to become all that we are and can be.

  • Posted By: Fideliz @ 01/18/2009 1:10:22 PM

A president that is mindful of the law and constitution, listens well with full appreciation to his audience and articulates with clarity is most welcome and refreshing. I hope that he will be able to present a vision and mission that is crystalline for the American people to renew their allegiance to the nation and rekindle hope for an improved present/future that in concert with his leadership, our nation as a whole can overcome the daunting hardships that we all have inherited from the former administration. God bless America and may Tuesday be a joy filled day for all!

A wonderful encouragaement for President Obama, Kipling's poem comes to mind:
"If you can keep yourself when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you and make allowance for their doubting too.
If you can dream and not make dreams your master,
If you can think and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same...." Kipling's "IF"

A tremendous amount of prayers are surrounding President Obama and his household.
    God bless you, Barack.
